I bought a copy off the street in Asia in April, and this game is beyond bad. Crappy game play, crappy load times (get up and make some tea in the two minutes it takes to load when you cross into another area of the town).

Forget what they say about it being vile and violent and all that, its just a very poorly designed piece of crap game. Not worth the 2 dollars I paid for it. Not even worth its value as a coaster.

That is why I have a very old purebred breed of dog that is well protected from backyard breeders. Thus it has nearly no genetic problems. Way too many breeds of dogs have been ruined by puppy mills, backyard breeders and unscrupulus types out there. The English Bulldog has been bred with such a large head that ceaserian birth is usually the only option for the pups, as the birth canal cannot tolerate the puppies enormous heads. Own a purebred, but own a good one!

I worked with Commander Rick Husband's brother, who is an Airline Captain. Rick made a few visits out to our hangar and did some great PR after his first shuttle flight. By all accounts, he was a fantastic guy and a great ambassador for human spaceflight. We all followed the progress of his flight, and I was stunned when I saw the footage of the accident. These are real people on these missions, with family and friends, and I pray that NASA and the beaucracy that puts up the shuttle never has another disaster.

I go to Asia quite a bit, and most of the bars and resturants usually have a schedule of the movies that they are showing advertised. Of course most of these films are bootlegs of currently running films in the US-often well before they even open legit in their country.

Only bad part is that the early bootlegs tend to be pretty crappy, sometimes you can see the silloutte of a theatre goer in front of the screen!

Its the heat layers also. Not unlike the thermoclines that you get when scuba diving, where the warmer upper water meets the cooler water, and it is all wavy and distorted. If you find a thermocline that is thick enough to try to dive through, it is an interesting experience.

Its not the atmosphere, its the density of the atmosphere that causes distortion. Still, you have to hand it the Venera team for pulling this off. As I recall when I saw the pictures years ago (there are I believe 2 colorized photos) the density of the atmosphere essentially warps the view that the camera had, so that the photos show a wide area but it doesn't look that way.

Its like looking through gas fumes, lots of distortion. Add in the fact that its hot enough to melt lead and you have showers of sulfuric acid as well as a dense enough atmosphere to crush a man, its a wonder that with Soviet technology, they landed there and were able to get a few holiday snaps off!

There are 2 nitrox classes under PADI, one is a short course for nitrox using a computer, and a much longer course (recommended) where you learn the hows and whys of nitrox and how to calculate using nitrox tables. I've been diving for years and have a few hundred dives on my new computer. As for expecting the divemaster to manually check the calculations, it didn't happen on many of the dive trips I've been on. I can lie and say that as a super concientious diver I always used my tables in conjunction with the computer, but unfortunatly that didn't happen.

I consider myself a very conservative diver, last month I was going to do 3 tanks of Nitrox at 37% Oxygen, and as soon as I attached my regs and turned on the computer, it had just enough power to tell me that it was shutting down. It has a low battery warning, but since my last dive was 24 hours before, and it stays on until the safe to fly time is reached, it went dead. Rather than risk the possibility of Nitrox problems with a high O2 mix and not enough data on the depth, I switched to regular air (at a loss of some $$). The fact is, when you dive, you dive conservatively, and never push the limits, even if you have a computer. All divers need to remember that the #1 best computer you have is your brain.

One other story, I bought my Aeris computer, and it had a link to the PC to download data, but only in Windows 98. I called Aeris, and they stated that they didn't see the need to write a patch for it to work in XP....that made me feel just wonderful about the company.
