For a long time now i've been looking for/dreaming of a site that lists _good_ free software/web tools
Something similar to those listed on this site, but all on one easy to navigate site, with reviews of what they do, direct link to download, and _one person_ overseeing it all - eliminating the crud.
on my desk by monday, thanks.
I just haven't heard anything new I'd like to buy... how about you?
Is that because you downloaded the stuff you don't like quite as much instead?
I've certainly found that as well as finding new music i do want to buy, i've also heard a lot of music i thought would be good, which turned out to be awful.
at the moment the techniques used require contaminating chemicals to bore holes and keep them open - if these can not be used, how do they plan to get in there?
however they do it, the results could be fascinating - reminds me of the Movile cave in romania (i won't link to their site as it is on geocities..) It contains 33 new species endemic to the system, which rely on microbes using chemo-synthesis rather than photosynthesis - there is a fascinating "ends of the earth" documentary about it, available on DVD as "the secret abyss of movile cave"
why, personal mecha robots of course! i know i would rather stomp about than sit in a traffic jam.
seriously though, they probably believe as i do that robot-pets (be that animal or "huminoid") are going to be very popular in the future, especially in japan.
These huge auto companies have enough money, technology and experience to develop this kind of thing - i'm sure other smaller companies are doing similar things, but the big ones are faster, and produce a more polished media-friendly product.
because if you catch them, or if you get it back somehow, it will be worthless.
i recomend taking a sledgehammer to it right now. Guaranteed no-one will try to steal it.
As opportunity has demonstrated, the most scientifically interesting places are the craters and crevasses. That's where the action is, and if you can build a robot that will naturally find these places, quickly and without direct control, you have a winner in my opinion.
As you say, if you dropped multiple cheap inflatable probes in one go, they will go off and "find" their own interesting places. Add a "deflate" feature for when it gets there/if it crosses something interesting but flat, and there you go.
Perhaps you could use this technique to transport small rovers which can move about in the local area when it has reached it's destination.
Tricky to make sure it works alright/can communicate while jammed in a crack or at the bottom of a crevasse, but i'm sure this would be something they could work around;)
The trend in recent years has been to edge away from traditional "point and click" adventure games - the modern adventure game is presented in a much more interactive, hands on way, which i have found tends to be a lot more entertaining for the player.
while i can't deny i really enjoyed sam and max and grim fandango, the limited freedom of movement and even more limited choices were frustrating.
I want to go _there,_ i want to do _this._
While i haven't been following the progress of sam and max i am guessing it would not be too far removed from the old formula (please stop me if i'm wrong here) and there just isn't the market. times have moved on.
Beyond good and evil (http://www.beyondgoodandevil.com) is a great example of the present(and future) style of adventure game - a deep and involved story, free to do anything you want, combined with action - creating a much more immersive experience. While not the comedy genius that was sam and max, i can immagine a similar format working well.
both games started well - i loved the creeping around mansions and castles etc - thief 2 moreso than 1 personally.
However, thief 1 got into twisted caves and other wierdness i can't really remember, and thief 2 became full of rubbishy robots (i truly hated the last level - never bothered finishing it at all)
the best parts were set in the city - proper "thieving"
i hope they stick to this side.
one would hope easy to use products could be reliable too.
it would certainly make them a lot easier to use..
oh, and also
"in clinical trials and, after nearly three decades of research, no gene therapy method has been proven to work consistently."
they haven't got past testing in a petri dish - i think we have some way to go yet..
for japanese people is it now..
Something tells me that the way the human race/governments work, we'll be lucky to get through the first 20..
this is Sweden we're talking about, not the US - they already have clean water and free speech..
how do you deal with "recieving stolen goods"? - if you see a car jacking, is it then ok to jack the jacker?

the secret is to make a slit in the bubble with a sharp blade..

used to have a "search for visually similar" option, which would return images with a similar arangement of colours. It was great. where did it go?
it's orbiting the sun, very close to our own path
someone linky for us dialuppers..
had me worried for a few seconds too ;)
thank you firefox!
how does this work? is it the same way that etch-a-sketch works - i.e. "summat to do with magnets" i couldn't understand the waffle.
turtles have flippers/live in sea tortoises have feet/eat lettuce/move slowly.
CD returns have tripled ;)
the real risk is that microbes could theoretically be transported to europa and corrupt the data they study..

run a wire round to the other side.
