This is the biggest load of crap I've read in quite some time.
It would be funny if it weren't so sad.
And it's sad b/c it's filled with nothing but non sequitur, meaningless garble. There's no real reasons here, just a bunch of whiney excuses. You're obviously a student and a young one at that, evidenced by your "Chewbacca Defense". There's nothing here to respond to in detail b/c it's all crap. There's no detail to speak of!
Of course, the funniest/most pathetic statement of all is your line about Mac and Linux being dead upon the roll out of Vista. Good one, LMAO! Just keep holding your breath. That line alone makes you deserving of a "troll bait" mod.
It only does that to URLs. And it's intentional. If you want to link something in a comment, you need to use the proper HTML formatting, otherwise, that's what they do it. The before-mentioned typo is an honest typo and not a Slashcode issue.
The guy who posed the question is talking about videoing conventions. Hardly the proper field of use for an iSight. No decent zoom and I'm guessing that the CCD's aren't up to snuff for the lighting situations in convention centers and hotel meeting rooms. And "auto white balance" is not a selling point, IMO. I much prefer my warm cards. "Auto" in general won't help you out when you need to play with shutter speeds, exposure settings, etc. Tv and Av are my friends. And the lack of "anti-jitter" is also a no-go. I seriously doubt the person posing the question just sits up a tripod at a convention and lets the thing record for 4 hours with no movement. Unless there's a shoulder mount or steady stick bracket for the iSight, I'm thinking he's in need of a bit of a larger camera.
I'm not trying to talk down to you at all. It's just that I am a videographer and I'm quite sure there's no way a guy who does this stuff for a living can ever get by with just an iSight and a laptop and iMovie. Even if it is "just conventions." And then there's the whole issue of the fact that the guy is looking for professional solutions for his profession. I know I wouldn't dare try filming an event (wedding, convention, or otherwise) with something as untested as what you're suggesting. Not to mention, I think it's always prudent to use the equipment that is designed for the job. My clients expect that. I'm pretty sure that if he walked past the convention chairman with an iSight in hand and laptop tethered to it, he'd be hard-pressed to sign any more contracts with him for future engagements.
Are you seriously suggesting using an iSight instead of a REAL camera? An iSight is DEFINITELY not designed for anything more than video conferencing. This is absolutely positively no subsitute for even the most low-end prosumer camera. No control, no zoom, no nothing. I'm pretty sure the guy who asked this Slashdot question is in need for more than just a pseudo-spycam set-up.
If I were Rockstar, I'd be dancing in the cubicles. Clearly, at this point, the demands are ludicrious and even if they do pan out to any actions, it'll take forever. In the meantime, the publicity alone will drive up sales. Buy low, sale high.
Heck, if I were more of a conspiracy theorist, I'd wonder if Rockstar paid for the protesters and faked all of this.
Same problem here. I bookmarked a simliar story when I came across it a couple months ago on Bungie's server. Now the linkie no workie. Oh well. Perhaps they're backtreading on the whole issue of having the world's linked.
All this talk of the Halo universe and its bible has me wondering... have they written in this bible how the Marathon games tie in? It's been stated before by the guys at Bungie that yes, there is a link. They just haven't said precisely how. Yet.
you're obviously not aware of the AIM alliance from the early 90's. IBM might own the patents but Apple has licensing rights because of the AIM alliance that they can leverage in more ways than you or I think, I'm sure.
Mod parent up. This is what I'm thinking as well. Apple owns enough of the PPC rights to simply license Intel to produce chips for them. Afterall, Apple's only gripe with IBM (as was the gripe with Motorola) was a supply problem, not a quality problem. I think Apple is very happy with the archetexture but wants a supplier and developer that can actually handle their needs. Intel is really the only one they can trust. They have the R&D and they have the manufacturing capability. IBM is too spread out, as was Motorola. Intel only does chips. And not just x86, either. I believe that on Monday, Intel will become the new "I" in the A.I.M. Alliance.
Okay, so suddenly, with mod powers activated once again, I realize another gaping whole in the Slashdot mod arena: "Parent's Basement Dwelling Nerd, -1"... come on/. editors... you know we need it.
The PCI cards are NOT interchangable unless a driver exists for both platforms. And having the ability to make that driver requires a certain amount of information about the archetecture and OS in order for it to be supported. So the analogy actually stands.
that's like asking if an IBM Power5 server can run Mac OS X. the answer is an obvious "no" since the Xbox 360 will lack an Apple ROM or even an Apple designed mobo architexture.
Just b/c it shares ONE similar part to an Apple computer, doesn't make it Apple compatible. That's like saying b/c your Toyota and your Honda both use 10w30 oil that you should be able to swap out pistons or spark plugs.
The icons you see in the beta screenshots are NOT the icons that will roll out with the actual final release. MS is keeping those and the theme a tight secret. Afterall, they have to have SOME element of surprise to use in all their glitsy marketing.

read the rest of his sentence first before you respond again.
Seriously... who still uses this browser? I didn't even know it was still in development.
great breakdown and very informative... much needed for newbs.
Now, now... please don't taunt the communists.
did your mother have any children that lived?

Not cheaper, I'm betting. According to CNBC, Apple actually paid less for the G5's from IBM than they'll pay for the x86 chips from Intel.
I'm sure we'll all see the details in less than 36 hours. And maybe even more surprises.

That's a pathetic excuse. I'm just quitting.
Oh, one more thing... PCI is an industry standard... the Mac platform is NOT.
The PCI cards are NOT interchangable unless a driver exists for both platforms. And having the ability to make that driver requires a certain amount of information about the archetecture and OS in order for it to be supported. So the analogy actually stands.

what are the mutes to do?
that could have been a believable story for a /.'er if you hadn't mentioned "wife."
One more thing... would you rather have a few more stories about Longhorn delays?
