This is the kind of guy who would open a restaurant specialized in rare bird meat and then become a member of PETA. Have some decency, man.
The problem with that is? Maybe he learned a thing or two about the damage he was doing on the way. What would be shameful is a member of PETA later opening the restaurant you describe...
I loved Galaxies when it first came out. Looking back with my rose-colored glasses what I remember loving the most was the roleplaying it brought out in me. I'm not normally a strong roleplayer, but I will roleplay back at other people. I tend to blend in with the crowd in that regard.
Galaxies compared to most MMO's I've played enabled some of the best roleplaying I've ever seen (I realize my limited experience of course, I'm sure a lot of hardcore roleplayers would laugh at me). A lot of what the game entailed was interacting with other players which, naturally, enabled a lot more roleplaying. Some examples are you would go out and grind like most MMO's but after a while you'd have wounds that you can't heal in the field. You'd need to head to town and visit the hospital where medic classes will grind their skills on you and heal you back up. Your mind would also get wounds (fatigued basically) that would need to be fixed up by entertainment, namely dancers and musicians. These two simple features allowed for a lot of fun roleplaying. Yes you could walk in and just sit there, but you could also really get into the roles... I actually made a very low IQ medic for my roleplaying. I made macros for healing people's wounds where my character would do random things such as tasting the medicine before giving it to patients. It was quite enjoyable. One of my favorite roleplayers stood at the shuttle bay and stood behind the otherwise empty ticket counter saying random airline things that made me crack up. Most were just classic airline jokes with star wars twist but it was very well done.
Games like WoW on the other hand are fun in their own right, but I find it a real challenge to roleplay and can't remember ever truly doing so in that game. Everything is setup for playing the game instead of ROLEplaying the game. I'm not asking for SWG back, but if they can make it easily roleplayable like SWG enabled, I'll be happy. Star Wars is still one of the best backdrops for a geek like me to get lost in.
Why? It's good, it's fairly priced, has effectively no copy protection, and I can freely download the client. I have several times set it down for months and then picked up again. A subscription MMO would have lapsed, and I would likely have lost my characters or their gear.
Just so you know, you can download the WoW client now, as well as quit for months even years at a time and your characters and gear will still be there if when you come back. But my guess is you play GW for the gameplay more than these other reasons. Same reason I avoid GW like the plague.;)
I believe in the WTC conspiracy theory, but more along the lines of Bush Administration helped or turned a blind-eye to what was happening for political gain. Nothing about extra things to help the demolition etc. My beliefs come from information such as: UNOCAL telling the house of representatives that the taliban would need to be removed to build a pipe through Afghanistan. (there should be records of this right?) Various government officials warning each other and or halting use of commercial airlines prior to. (this was from newsweek)
I think a lot of the conspiracy "truthers" are just looking at the evidence that is available, not trying to see what isn't there.
Normally I'd agree with you, however, from what I just read this is more like a book or a movie than a video game. And with that in mind context gameplay goes right out the window.
What helps make a book or movie more enjoyable is willful suspension of disbelief, and greater realism will help exactly that.
What's next? We keep paying doctors every few years for prior services rendered? Or how about the contractor that built your house you continue to live in?
I hate this logic. Does the doctor charge $10 for every headache avoided? Does the contractor charge 25 cents every time you flush the toilet? No. Instead they charge one fee to cover all their cost at once.
But if a movie was $100 million to make, they don't have one viewer who pays $100 million to see it. That would also be illogical and pointless. Instead they have 10 million people pay $10 to see it.
You're really not comparing apples to oranges, stop misleading people.
For custom domains using gmail for their mail servers this doesn't appear to be added yet. Anyone have more info than I'm seeing about google aps users?
Why couldn't the editors use the actual vehicle? It actually looks pretty cool, the sensational jet engine photo just lowers the overall nerd factor. It also makes the story far more debatable, any chair with flames out the back will obviously be stopped by police in short order, but the engineered one you linked, much less likely.
It's been an idea of mine for a while now that id should make game engines to license to other developers. Much like unreal does most of the time. Most of unreal's own games are pretty crappy (personal opinion) but they sell their engine to some great games (bioshock etc). If id did this their engines could be used to make far better games then they can in house, and probably make more money to boot.
Might I suggest http://www.robotbattle.com/ or similar type game? You use the scripting language (very similar to C? I don't remember) in your text editor of choice to program robots to kill each other with energy missiles. It's a lot of fun and can be really addicting. It can help develop a solid interest in programming. Making your first robot and then starting up the game to watch it get slaughtered and not act as you planned is pretty interesting.
I bet a lot of slashdotters would enjoy it actually.
Your ideas scare me. I wish to unsubscribe from your newsletter...

Apparently I'm not funny or you're humor impaired (moderators also). Probably safe to assume the prior.
Maybe it's to give us guys a chance?

They don't care because it's the "sweded" version of the movie.
If you read ./ summaries
There's a ./?? What's there? What else are you guys hiding from me?!?
Hindsight is 20/20. Now try using this to _predict_ something correctly.

Dude, your mom's going to be pissed when she finds out you slashdotted her driveway.
