  1. That process already exist - it's called Beta on Data Harvesting From a Developer's Perspective · · Score: 3, Insightful

Instead of trying to transform the gamers community into labs rats in order to find new ways of selling us more crappy half finished entertainment (games in this case), try to focus on creativity and innovation.

How many crappy games are released today because they are unfinished, bugged and unplayable? Of course data mining is the better economic plan since it allows to collect money by releasing the game early and pretend you care about your customer base instead of beta testing your product (This actually cost more money and delays the production cycle).

Data mining is flawed: It collects data about what we like. The result is a massive amoung of clone games with very little creativity other than mind blowing GFX. Focus on something new instead, something we havent seen yet, something original, something that will be a surprise instead of the version 65 of a "well selling title".

Beta test your product, (data mining isnt a cheap way of doing it) Ask for feedback if you like (There is plenty of discution forums the gamers will be happy to contribute). Funny part about this, most gamers have the impression you never read those since you rarely answer them, yet you pretend you want to collect data using a sneaky method while you ignoring most of our suggestions/feedback on discussion boards. Makes me wonder about your real motives ... Make more money with lower costs and very little concern about your product other than if it will sell.

The game actually starts at lev 70 as do most other morpgs out there. Then again i guess i depends what you expect from the game. Anyone can mindlessly level up a character up to 70 without skill. To some its fun to others its a painfull grind. The real game begins when you start "raids" that require lot more time, planing, organisation, social skill. You complain that the gear is 85% of the skill but the gear reflects raiding skill ( and of course time ) but time alone wont get you the gear. If you looking to play to play a game that is 100% skill then go grab mortal kombat or tekken or any other combat game out there.

Fact that i still consdider HL2 more PC than console but in most cases the PC version suffers from Console limitations tradeoffs ( UI, controls, memory limitations ). I still think PC gaming is dying except that i have hope that the wind will still change and due to the improvement of devellopement tools PCgaming will be resurected by some by some amateur garage games programmers. PC gaming suffers from the same syndrome that themovies industry: Fancy graphics, lot of special effects but little story and gameplay (with the expection of few titles)

  24. Question is how do they use it on Blizzard Seeks to Block User Rights, Privacy · · Score: 1

I have been playing wow since early beta, and from my experience the problem is not that they have some anti-cheats program scanning your computer.
Cheating is in human nature, and every decent multiplayer game today offers some options to prevent cheaters from destroying your gaming experience.
What is considered cheating also depends on the game:
In games like starwars galaxies scripting was allowed, and you could actually do some annoying time sinking tasks while you were watching tv. In Eve-online your character is somewhat improving while you are offline. In wow however, the amount of time spent online doing stupid repetitive farming in order to gear up, get faction, get keyed, so you can attent (and be usefull) a semi-decent guild raid, is just beyond a normal person capacity. A normal person with a familly and a job, cant afford to play 5-6 hours a day, 7 days a week. While this doesnt excuse cheating it sure motivates it, since wow targets casual players, who will soon find out that it doesnt support their style of play.
Now the problem arise when blizzard's spyware flags you as cheater. Their customer support will not provide you any reason, proof, or even details about the event. I've seen people get banned for beeing hacked and striped due to an exploit of animated cursor http://kotaku.com/gaming/bbc/cursor-hackers-hit-wo w-249911.php and unless you have some way of getting the public attention http://kotaku.com/gaming/wow/wow-+-alls-well-that- ends-well-248352.php it can take 3 or more weeks to even get feedback from blizzard, come on, how hard is it to lookup logs? back in EQ1 a gm could do it on the spot.
Anyways, all this to say anti-cheats are fine, as long as they use it to resolve issues, but not just to ban users based on a automated process, without giving any customer support.
