    I've sort of wondered that as well, but maybe they're doing this more to pat their "honest" customers on the back. There's so many reasons to pirate Windows, maybe they just want to create a reason not to (not that their validation is perfect, by any means).

    meh, a new powerbook will probably be grandfathered in to get a free copy of Tiger, depending on how long you wait. Server, on the other hand, does make it worth it :)

    Is this an intentional troll? This kit is for developers who want to take advantage of the new features in Tiger and get started on it before Tiger is released. You basically are saying you don't want it because you won't be doing that?

    Any real company developing for the mac shouldn't think twice about it, as another poster pointed out they get the money back on the discount for an Apple machine.

    This site is currently in the process of being moved to a new server. It will be coming back up in stages.

    Jan 16 - Update: Some problems with getting the files off the old server have slowed us down. :( We now have the entire site in our possession, however. Most of the site should be back up by about 11pm CST (GMT-6) on January 17. We are very sorry for the delay.

    Unfortunately they won't care, even if you DID make an alternative. Even if it was a LOT LOT better. Even if it was free. Know why? Because even then, NO ONE WOULD PLAY IT. Linux has 0% of the gaming marketshare, give or take 1%. It would be nice if they cared, but there's no real reason they should (business wise).

    Any machine that wants to run Java bytecode will have to do a translation of that code before it can be sent through the processor (which understands machine code, not bytecode) and be processed. Machine code, on the other hand, just goes right to the processor.

    You can also disable it in the boot options menu by pressing F8 while your computer boots up. Choose Disable Automatic Restarting. It is funny to hear people talk about how XP is so great because it never BSoDs, but then ask for help with their computer restarting on their own :)

    They don't really specify what will be considered spamvertised web sites in the article, but consider the possibility of hiring a spammer to shutdown a website for you by advertising their site through spam :)

    Also, how can they determine the difference between warranted and unwarranted emails so easily? Just because people didn't uncheck the "Send me offers.." box doesn't mean they didn't accept it. Turning off access to a website is a pretty big deal..

    No, the point of activating it only when it's hot is for cold weather times. When it's cold outside, letting solar energy IN saves money; when it's hot outside, keeping it out saves money. Pumping in hot air would be a waste in three ways (heating the air, pumping the air, and negating the entire point of the treated glass).

    My initial reply was going to be along the lines of "Ram Doubler" was just an early implementation of virtual memory, but that was wrong..

    Just an FYI for the non-Mac user, the classic Mac OS would allocate a given amount of RAM to each application at launch, whether it used it or not was up to the application. Ram Doubler would reclaim unused, allocated memory and give it to other applications that needed it. It would also compress memory if it hadn't been used for a while, and as a last resort would page out to the harddrive (like the Finder would already do).
