  1. UGH on The Revolution is Coming Mid-2006? · · Score: 1, Interesting

I am the biggest nintendo fanboy that there is, but they consitantly pull this kind of shit. Before it was ultra 64 it was called Project Reality and it promised graphics similar to what gamecube has now. It then became Ultra 64 and was delayed and only footage was shown(example being Final Fantasy 64) and then eventually they released Nintendo 64. I really hope the big N doesnt do this again. Whenever I hear that stuff wont be playable I cant help but smell delay.

  7. Unlikely on Mac mini All About Movies? · · Score: 1

So there are two possible solutions:
    1) TS files - mpeg2 hd files which tend to be quite large
but play on slower machines. Movies tend to run 11-20 gigs 2) Mpeg4 - Much smaller. Much more cpu needed. 4-8 gigs

Video is very cycle intensive. Look at the amd and intel benchmarks for video. Intel always wins because their clockspeed is faster. The 1.25 ghz mac mini isnt going to cut it.

How is mac going to deliver gigs of content to all of these people in a speedy way? OC-192? Even if they got something even faster, people's connections would bottleneck the process. These things also dont have huge hard drives so it shouldn't be expected that they can store many movies at once.

Oh and guess what? Most people dont have HDTV and they arent going to run out and buy one that has a DVI connector(extra $$$) so they can plug their mac mini into it. The mac mini is simply what they state it is, nothing more.

The post says they sleep 1.8 hours less a week. A week. Thats .25 hours a day or around 15 minutes. All they found out is that fat people sleep 15 minutes less a day than thin people. I hardly think this suggests that fat people need less sleep than thin people because they do less.

  23. some thoughts on Nintendo's Next Seems on Track, Despite Reports · · Score: 2, Interesting

Well upon reading through some of the replies to this post, I want to bring some thoughts of mine.

    1) the subject of realism in games: Too some, realism in terms of graphics, might be only second to gameplay, but to many it's important. If a game we're somehow able to look like an hdtv football game on television, it would be a vast improvement to a lot of people.
    2) the subject of hdtv: Someone said they should wait for hdtvs to be more prevalent, well i hate to break it to you, but they are. At this point there's not really an excuse to own one or be saving up for one except that you're one of those people who has to wait and wait and wait until the best thing is out, but any geek who likes gadgets doesn't operate in such a way. You can get an hdtv for around 400-500 bucks. Thats roughly 8 dollars a week for a year. 10 if you want to be fair. Nintendos new system wont be out for probably 2 years. By that time you could have saved 800-1000 dollars for a sweet widescreen set, and probably by that time 800-1000 will go a lot further than it does now. For about 1000 dollars right now you can get a good 32-36 inch widescreen hdtv set.
