  1. I have worked with autistic kids on Xbox Live Labels Autistic Boy "Cheater" · · Score: 2

and it is very possible he is indeed "too good". Autistic kids can be blinding geniuses at complex tasks that require conceptual thinking. First off, I doubt seriously the kid could manage the procedure to "cheat" since it involved downloading and installing. Their minds race all the time, and they would find this very frustrating to do.. But, they are all stellar at seeing concepts and patterns, and they can focus 100% on what they are doing, for hours at a time, and block out everything else. For example, I played a gig at a "Home for mentally "disabled" kids". A boy there, about 10 or so, was fascinated by the Hammond B3 we had. He sat on the edge of the stage, swaying back and forth for an hour while we played, lost in his own little world. We took a break, and the boy could barely manage a conversation, but he got across to me that he loved the last song we played, and wanted to play the organ.. With the OK of the B3 player, I let the kid get up and play. And he played back EXACTLY what our keys played played in that song, INCLUDING his solo. No mistakes, just as if somebody had recorded it. Perfect. Jaw dropping. And in an "aww" moment, the kid hugged our keys player, then he retreated into his own little world on the edge of the stage. The point is this: an autistic child can catch onto a game much faster then we normals can - they see patterns we don't, and they can exactly duplicate patterns they just did. like walking from their room to outside, in exactly the same footsteps. I will guess about they boy's success at gaming- the boy made mistakes at first, but saw some of the patterns in the game. He duped the patterns up to the point of the mistake, then figured out how the "enemy" behaved, since the "enemy" has a behavior pattern that the kid saw, and figured out how the game operated well enough to exploit anomalies we do not see. MS owes this kid an apology, and of they were smart, they'd watch him play the game. they might just learn something from an autistic kid. I did.

  11. The reason the levees failed -- Bush on Federal Judge Says Corps of Engineers Liable For Katrina Damage · · Score: 0, Troll

MRGO is only one reason the city flooded. MRGO should have never been built in the first place. BUT the reason New Orleans failed is because the levees were not maintained. Levees age, they erode, the sink under their own weight. They are made of dirt and are not monoliths. The sad truth is that Bush destroyed New Orleans. In a nutshell, he stole the money slated to fix the levees in three years' budgets, in spite of warnings of the catastrophe if the levees gave way. There was (still is) a program that was created to rebuilds the levees (SELA), and Bush defunded it. Work on the levees slowed or stopped, and the weakened levees broke. FACTS:: February 2001 Bush's first budget proposed more than half a billion dollars worth of cuts to the Army Corps of Engineers for the 2002 fiscal year. Bush proposed half of what his own officials said was necessary for the critical Southeast Louisiana Flood Control Project (SELA)--a project started after a 1995 rainstorm flooded 25,000 homes and caused a half billion dollars in damage. Bush did this to offset the tax break he gave to the top 1% of rich Americans. The first major economic initiative pursued by the president was a massive tax cut for the rich, enacted in June of 2001. Bush signed his massive $1.3 trillion income tax cut into law-a tax cut that severely depleted the government of revenues it needed to address critical priorities. February 2002 Bush provided just $5 million for maintaining and upgrading critical hurricane protection levees in New Orleans--one fifth of what government experts and Republican elected officials in Louisiana told the administration was needed. Bush knew SELA needed $80 million to keep working, but the he only proposed providing a quarter of that. February 2004 The SELA project sought $100 million to repair the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain levees, but Bush offered only $16.5 million. The Army Corps of Engineers asked for $27 million to pay for hurricane protection upgrades around Lake Pontchartrain--but the White House cut that to $3.9 million. Gaps in levees around Lake Pontchartrain & the Industrial Canal, which were supposed to be filled by 2004, were not filled because of budget shortfalls. Repair work on the levees, including the ones that failed, was stopped due to lack of funds.

School has gotten dumber over the years- it's time to reverse that trend. I think that school days should be longer, but they should add arts classes, and, above all, classes in critical thinking, and how to think, both conceptually, and linearly. Oh yeah, and reduce the emphasis on football. School sports are fine, but to a limit. One more thing: double the teachers' salaries & make sure they can teach. First off, Katrina was just a CAT 3 when it went through New Orleans, and it was not not a direct hit. The levees should have held, but---
Katrina, aka the flooding of New Orleans, was caused by George Bush. Follow this: In 19945 a federal program, called SELA, was created in response to a flooding in Louisiana, that was due to deteriorated levees. This program included a full inspection of all the MS river and Lake Ponchartrain levees, then repairs and upgrades to meet current demands, as needed. Well, the first thing old George does when he gets into office is to cut taxes for the rich- he immediately wasted the surplus Clinton left him. That wasn't enough to balance the cuts, so, and here we get to the heart of the matter, Bush cuts the Army Corps of Engineers' Levee repair funds (SELA) to less than one fourth of what is needed. And not for just one year, but for three, in three seperate USA fiscal year's budgets:
June 7, 2001 Bush signed his massive $1.3 trillion income tax cut into law-- a tax cut that severely depleted the government of revenues it needed to address critical priorities. Bush's first budget introduced in February 2001 proposed more than half a billion dollars worth of cuts to the Army Corps of Engineers for the 2002 fiscal year. Bush proposed providing only half of what his own administration officials said was necessary to sustain the critical Southeast Louisiana Flood Control Project (SELA).
February 2002 The president unveiled his new budget, this one with a $390 million cut to the Army Corps. The administration provided just $5 million for maintaining and upgrading critical hurricane protection levees in New Orleans (SELA) --one fifth of what government experts and Republican elected officials in Louisiana told the administration was needed.
February 2, 2004 White House on February 2 released a budget with another massive cut to infrastructure and public works projects-- this time to the tune of $460 million. The Southeast Louisiana Flood Control project sought $100 million in U.S. aid to strengthen the levees holding back the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, but the Bush administration offered a paltry $16.5 million.
On top of that, Bush refused to put emergency relief in place before, during and after the storm, unlike Nixon, Clinton and Bush 1. He also turned away relief efforts, like a private bus co. offering to come get the people still in the city, the red cross, and stopping the USS Bataan, a hospital ship, from going from MS to NOLA, to help.
Gates can't make a dumass in charge do the right thing, but Katrina didn't flood New Orleans. Stupid George did.

And every Republican President since, repeated this pattern; then Clinton came along, and left little Bush with a budget surplus, the first since WW2, which Bushie immediately squandered. And he reduced corporate taxes and taxes on the super rich, with no regard where money to run the country was coming from. BTW, Bush stole the money slated to fix and upgrade the New Orleans levees, stopping work in progress, and the levees failed. So we have now, thanks to Bush and the Republicans, the largest national debt ever, a huge part of that debt in Communist China's hands. That's right, we are in debt to the Communists- they have us by the short and curlies. Obama has to do something to pay off the debt, and have money to run the country, so closing tax loopholes is one part of the plan. He did, however, give a tax break to the middle class- the biggest one ever. So all those against Obama's plan to close corporate tax loopholes and end off shore tax havens- would you please post your plan on how to get this country out from under the debt that Bush dumped on Obama? if you have none, and nothing but lip flap, then sit down and shut up, and let a smart man fix this.
