Where are the programs I compile to get root? Rootkit is a ready-to-go deployable root-getting suite.

What you have is a ~9 month old document showing some items of concern. Rootkit is not the same as "this system has some SUID root binaries on it..."

If you want to play games, you can boot Windows on your x86 Mac. Hopefully someone makes a way to boot Windows as a Mach process and run win32 apps under OSX kinda like you run OS9 apps.

  9. Re:No more stupid Mac complaints! on Apple Releases Multi-Button "Mighty Mouse" · · Score: 1

Yeah, that does suck. Apple needs to contribute some stuff to OpenGL because it really can't compete with DirectX.

At least now that they'll be using x86 processors, you'll be able to emulate winodws a lot faster (or dual boot if you must).

  10. I hope you're trolling. on Windows Guru Calls For IE7 Boycott · · Score: 1

Not only does FireFox support this, but the entire user interface is written in this fashion. Get on the bandwagon buddy, it's fun! :)

  11. No more stupid Mac complaints! on Apple Releases Multi-Button "Mighty Mouse" · · Score: 1

Let's run down the list of classic anti-mac complaints, and look at what Apple has done in the past few years.

The OS is for simpletons - OSX is plenty tweakable now, and a lot more solid than OS9.

They're too expensive - Tell it to the mac mini.

Too much proprietary crap - Apple has been embracing open standards for both hardware and software. Sure, they've still got some proprietary stuff, but compare it to the days of NuBus, ADB, System 7, and all that jazz -- they've made a lot of progress.

One button mouse sucks! - Well....

    "Eat a bag of dicks."

It's obvious that objects don't have desires. The poster was merely using some colorful speech. Other examples of non-factual satements that you'd be quick to contradict and look like a prick for doing so:
"It's hot as hell out here!"
"I'm so hungry, I could eat a horse!"
    "Slashdot is food for thought."

I share your concern over the need for some widgets when web or utilities work fine. (Wikipedia widget, I'm looking in your direction!)

There's a dashboard widget called SysStat -- pretty much the same as 'top' or 'Activity Monitor' -- but unlike those, it only uses CPU when dashboard is showing. I use this thing an awful lot...

    *raising hand*

I find it quite ironic that it's the right-wingers that push for strict control on video games, the Internet, TV, etc.

This is the same crowd that opposes government regulation of business and favors personal responsability over a care-taker government. Yet, it appears they're asking for the government to help parent their child at the expense of the free market.
