I'll second this. I just got my first job at a big business and they're really tight with any costs. So me wanting to buy all this software I was used to using at school didn't fly at all. Pretty much everyone uses eclipse to write/review source code and a handful of other free/open source programs to get some serious work done (shell accounts on a unix box help too...).
First it was scary, then it seemed almost silly to do it any other way.
I've always heard that these processor's are slow as balls. does this board make them fast enough to build a desktop system around (instead of say, a cheap athlon?)? Would my parents notice a performance hit if all they do is surf, email, and write docs in word?
other than the random flash-heavy website, why shouldn't they use one of these?
too bad my brand new x31 doesn't, and couldn't, come with a linux distro pre installed... i'd've been happy with either suse or redhat, if they could get the undock button and wireless workign flawlessly.
Then maybe intel would've gotten those centrino drivers out a touch faster.
a teacher/performer/artist/programmer at my school did a performance at arstechnica called 'cell phone symphony' where he used the audiences cell phones to make music! Each person sat in one chair, mapped to a grid on his computer. They got special phone connections with the phone company to dial a lot at once. They got a big projector to projet over the audience, and had a spotlight (of sorts, from the projector) pop up on someone when their phone rang. The whole audience watched via a big mirror.
I've always thought that scientists require a spark of inspiration to generate new theories. I mean, they basically just think of some random model for reality and see how well it matches in experiments.
I doubt that'll ever be reproduced in a robot (or at least not for a long long time), simply because it involves a great deal of creativity.
the only difference between these two cards is the ultra is clocked higher. how does the flashing/etc result in an advantage beyond overclocking your card? It changes how windows/bios recognize the card? whoop de doo.
Nvidia did this a long time ago with the tnt line. i still have my tnt ultra (bought used, thanks).
the political positions are predictable, but the content is not. for example, michael moore wants oprah to run. furthermore, the al franken book is hella funny.
i'd suggest them both. (maybe wait for softcover...)
furthermore, unlike other books, political (and current-affairs) books need to be appreicated immediatly.
we do... he was in austin powers goldmember and his name was... goldmember. member = man, man = member.
anyhow he was from holland, it was wierd and he had an amsterdam good time.
I just finished reading this book and it's wonderful. I don't have time (or will) to write a full review, but if you've any interest in comic books or in very good historical fiction, I'd suggest picking up a copy
each node has two side case fans! that's gotta be the most dedicated case modding job i've ever seen! 132 pc's with 2 fans! too bad they didn't put fan guards... or interior lights.. or blue led's... but i guess all that junk about a supercomputer makes up for it...
i'm a current student at Carnegie Mellon Univ. and about a week before everyone's slated to return, computing services sent out a letter saying that they were scanning the network for this worm and if found were removing machines from the network. If your machine has been removed, you gotta patch it and request it be re-allowed.
it seems like a pretty good way to go about preventing it from spreading, and even non-techies at my school will jump on the patch once they read the part about getting kicked off the net (read: AIM/Kazaa/email)
could always add racing stripes.
... which are nice too, if you actually want to *use* it... bah.)
or add BIOHAZARD or PUNISHER fan grills.
those thigns make the b0x3n sw33t>0r!!!
(it has dual g5's

Why haven't any of the other manufacturer's that run linux on this chipset done the same?
Aren't they violating their license?

any benchmarks handy?

heres the wired article.
multi track mp3 != non-mixed down audio
They'll still mix it down to the correct tracks, you won't be able to turn of certain tracks. It just means you'll get the laugh track in surround.
Enjoy.
oh wait... we already are... hrmm.. well, maybe someone can mail some debian cds?

Seems like this robot isn't doing any of that.

it's toasted... and only 8 comments!
with no dvd drive, this unit relies on the hdd for all media.
so isn't this encouraging users to rip dvd's to it's drive so they can watch them on the go?
*bog*
clearly linus works for SCO.
so he got paid off to say he wrote them, when he really copied them.
more shady deals from sco... *rolls eyes*

excuse my ignorance, but what's 'Hackerish SSID'?
is 'h31pm3' the ssid? why is this one special?
rtfa, he says to use it to slash your wrists, becasue death is better than aol.
go outside and find someone to talk to. (no girlfriend jokes here... .. mostly...)
i mudded years ago and found it eating my life away. spending hours so you can get better and better equipment is no way to spend your life.
please, take it from me, just dont start.
this crap isn't modding. modding is when you change your computer. if you buy it all "tricked out" then you're just lame and haven't done any modding.
if you buy one 'tricked out' and say, mod it into a 1:42 scale 747, then you've done some nice modding.
this is so off. everyone knows games are all about getting points. or collecting obscure items.
I dont care how much fun it is, so long as I can spend hours upon hours getting points/levels/rare items.
after all, a good game is an obsession, not FUN.
you just know he's thinging "whoa, there's a girl here. how'd she get in?!?! *stares*"
