Old- style BBS's still exist on the Internet. Telnet turned out to be a great protocol to simulate old dialup links. Now there are online BBS's that have users from around the world, as well as special inter-BBS games and forums. For a start, download a fully ANSI-compatible terminal, and connect to x-bit.org (the default Windows terminal in XP works well enough)
X-bit is one of the most popular telnet BBS's that I know of. A Google search for 'telnet BBS' will turn up many results, and you may find one with users from mainly your area, with that "Local Feeling".
From what I've heard, the main capacitor in a normal flash camera carries enough crarge to stop your heart, even if the battery has been disconnected for quite a while. And if you do make one, make sure it never discharges through your chest (don't touch one contact with one hand and the other with your second hand)
You can be emailed results from Google as well.
Simply email google@capeclear.com with the search terms in the subject line, you will soon recieve a response with the results. I think there is a limit to how many times a day you can use this, but I cannot find the link to the project webpage.
Proxomitron.
I do not think it is open source, nor is it a toolbar, but it is the best popup/ad blocker I have ever used. It takes all the banner ads out of most sites (even slashdot) and makes it look like they weren't there in the first place. You can also configure many other filters. Great software.
I believe that you would have to specifically ask to not have the conversation recorded. Even if you turn off logging, the other party would still have to go through extra steps to do the same.
If you're not looking for something new or fancy, you may like a Tandy 100 or 102. They are ancient laptops, however, they do exactly what you want. They get great battery life on four AAs, however, it will not fit into your pocket. Take a look at Club 100 and see if it is what you want.
Then again, you could get a cheap Palm and a keyboard.
Often the best thing to do is show them your receipt. They will sometimes look at it and glance at your cart to see if you obviously put something else in, but they often will let you go, as often the employees at the checkstands forget to deactiviate the RFID tags in merchandise.
It takes a lot less time than it would to get pulled over and searched by the cops.
Wow... Look at that awesome shitch in the first picture. I noticed the color scheme is just like my house, and I seem to remember that we had an upgrade of our electrical system a long while ago... I will start looking for something like that;)
I do agree that older houses seem to have bad electrical systems, probably mostly in America. It is somewhat worrying when all the lights dim when the monitor/TV turns on...
Imagine, you are driving down the freeway in the dark in western Washington at 70 mph, and your windshield wipers suddenly stop... If you live here, you can probably imagine what would happen. Think: Completely unable to see, except for blurry outlines of the headlights from the oncoming traffic. Now, what if the lights went out as well. You had better hope you were in the far right lane, and the barrier is far enough away from the road...
Couldn't a thief simply have a RFID reader in a public place, and collect all of the IDs?
Then they could use an active RFID tag to transmit the ID, and use it like a stolen credit card. It would be easier than stealing cash/credit cards, and hard to track.
They would need some sort of password system, I think it would still be quite insecure.
I actually have gotten a 'RSOD', on some shell written in QBasic. An odd change, I was quite surprised. After a few more, I realized that programs written in MS's programming languages tend to be just about as unstable as Windows itself...
That has happened to me several times, with shoes. They would set off the alarms in almost any store I went to, it was quite annoying. (But, oddly enough, they did not set off the alarms when I left the store I got them at)
I am now always tense as I walk through the alarms at stores.
Go back a little further... Take a look at some good old BBS door games. ANSI, while simple, can make some pretty good graphics. The gameplay on the old games is awesome, plus you can play against all the other players. If you want to see many of the games, go to telnet://x-bit.org
All of those games are still online. Try telnet://x-bit.org , or just search Google for telnet BBS's.

It seemed to work fine for me. I am using Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1, and had no problems viewing the page.

According to this post, it is called Prospective Memory.

A plam screen also is mirror-like when off.
Isn't that what catalytic converters do?
I'm sorry, I was up late last night... I do agree that many electrical systems are unsafe, and far too many people simply don't care.

They have a lot of the games, and many players.
