I dont know about you guys, but Im tired of "bullshots", slice it any way you want, but if a sale is based on photos of a product and then you can prove those photos were faked or they didnt showed the product at all, it is misleading Advertising and the sale could be considered fraud in a court of law.
How many fans are still waiting for PS3 games to look like the Killzone 2, Motorstorm trailers? probably already saving the rumored $700-$800 to get the system? no game system is even NEAR to render that kind of complexity in realtime. (It has been proved both were fake, motorsports won a CGI award actually) and dont expect Gears of War or MGS4 Actual Gameplay Footage to look like their REALTIME DEMOS either.
Seriously, Kong wasnt that bad,it was decent for a monster movie, but thats that. Everybody knows the next King Konk movies SUCKED big time, purely sticking to the success of the first, no one wants to see them EVER again.
What about enders game? the hobbit, Halo (he is producing it anyway) even a remake of Excalibur (which is almost on the line of LOTR anyway) are much better ideas , Hell! why not a new script? Why do they even have to make remakes of old movies or books? Peter Jackson is ultra famous, he gets to put his name in the poster of the movie (and the name of the game based on the movie) and attract people with it!
Uh? well.. thanks but, making PC games that run from the DVD makes a LOT more sense than you think, the sad reality is ordinary people dont know and want to learn how to install and setup their PC software I do family tech support and 3 out of 5 times is to install some program (that includes games) believe it or not. these people honestly believe they can mess up their systems bad if they do an incorrect install. If I werent around to help them do that, they probably wouldnt buy any programs at all.
Why? why PC gamers cant just put the game on the disc tray and start playing like they would do in a regular console? why do we have to make it more difficult for them just because they have a PC?
The game can USE the HDD of course, you can even have the option to install, but just dont FORCE the regular PC users to go through a lengthy install just to play a game.
After reading the article, I just dont see wheres the sleeping giant rousing, whatever. All the article says is PC gaming is in all time LOW (actually if it werent for MMORPGS like WOW it would be even worst) so is time for an upswing! (rolls eyes)
So.. using the same logic, if the cubs havent won the series in 20 years, is pretty sure they will do now!
Heres a clue to get more shelf space, stop pricing the 3d cards at $500 expecting everyone to buy them, stop forcing PC users to buy those cards by pushing developers into using them and asking them as requirements, start thinking more on medium-low end pcs to create interesting games, start making games that can be played rigth from the dvd, Buy a DAMN controller! you cant play all kind of games using a keyboard, just like you cant play RTS with a controller, is just not the same. Try independent games they are better and cheaper than you think.
Sorry but this is a game that just gets on my nerves! when this was called "Jet Grind Radio" it was kind of cool (specially with the "never seen before back then" toon shading style) but now that is some GTA meets Prince of persia pseudo Artist ego-centric clone, I wouldnt touch with a ten foot pole! exactly HOW do you fight a government by vandalising a city with your OWN name? in jet set/grind radio, you spray painted "JET SET RADIO" ads which was a rebel group/ anti goverment radio station. Even if "TRANE" spray painted the entire damned city wall to wall with HIS OWN name wtf is that good for? "Oh no! EL BARTO owns this town now! he has tagged everything with his name! beware of his mighty spray can!! he may spray paint us all!!"?! (rolls eyes)
Worst of all, these guys have the best reviews money can buy! have you seen the gamespot video review? Its the poor bastard reviewer saying in a deep monotone voice "the engine has great graphics... the gameplay reminds you of prince of persia... great voice acting... the fighting starts ok but gets better... the concept is incredibly well planned... today is my birthday..." Yeah we can see how excited and thrilled you are.
(Greets to those old enough to remember the Billy Crystal's "Birthday, Liquor books" joke.)
Dont fall into the hype, make a difference... by letting this piece of crap rot in the shelf!
"Well, we are already used to fucking people for money, so we asked ourselves why not companies? I mean if an old fart can do it, who could be better than us?"
btw. Do they realize prostitution is illegal, violence in "M" rated videogames is not?
Im just waiting for the headline "Mobsters, gangsta's and carjackers sue GTA makers for portraying them in a wrongful way"
I have no idea why the government keeps trying to pull this completely false fact as some mantra, FPS games are not "soldier trainers", I have played hundreds of FPS yes, they make you FEEL like you are ready for a dangerous situation should it happen, but as soon as you face something similar in real life, your brain starts to recognize patterns the smell of blood and gun powder, the noise, the simple realization you are in mortal danger, it all triggers the alarms. If you have no real training you are still are as defenseless as any other civilian.
I have to confess this actually happened to ME, I witnessed a real robbery, one of the robbers was shot (in the leg) a few feet from me, I couldnt even MOVE. Let me get this straight: contrary to Jack Thompson's and Government theories I did not grabbed a gun from the robbers and blew them away while dropping catchy lines or checking some imaginary score, I was PARALYSED, convinced I was going to get killed any minute, and tried to stay as low as possible (just like any guy would) then as soon as things were calmed I almost puked in the bathroom.
Soldiers have to go trough basic training as always, games such as AA have been used for years only to teach soldiers to strategize during combat, and specifically AA teaches soldiers to play by the book other than going out solo, they have to comply every task they are commanded or lose.
Dont even try to get the "Murder simulator" on me you cant even save your OWN life with that "training".
Seriously TFA has an interrogation mark in the title, how more vague could it be?
Its mentioned in several parts of the article sony NDA wibt allow the writers to be specific about games or certain specs about the Ps3 but the result is so incredibly vague, is hard they actually had a ps3 or they were just guessing.
Other than a few pointers that could have taken from recent news posts or common sense (the devs are not using 1080), most of the information in the article is already well known, and the writing style is is like pulling teeth
example "I will tell you about the graphics, the RSX chip is it as good as they promised? but first let me share a pointless well known fact" a few pages later, "the graphics are not going to be so good as kill zone 2 but MAYBE close to MGS4" gee, thanks.
Dont waste your time trying to read 10 pages of... well, basically nothing.
While this is true, people ussually dont call videogames (or any other game) "games" you have to consider each game has its OWN NAME so they dont have to, "we are playing animal crossing", "we are playing halo", "we are playing Madden", "baseball", "football", "chess", etc. Also videogame consoles are shortened to "consoles" (for speed mostly) and a lot of companies already call themselves "electronic entertainment" or "entertainment studios" (some of them actually mention "game" proudly)
So.. in short the article is useless theres no need to change the name of "game" or look for some other stupid synonim, is a problem that has already (and has always) been solved.
Yeah, IGN (ok they are crap) and EGM did a "hands on" too, their comments were "my fucking hand almost went numb after a few minutes of play!" and "the prototype slightly missed the controller in some demos! you need to move your hand slower or it wont track it!" try to find those articles now. Ask around, those were the first comments on the revolution controller demos (I have been following the history since 1up tried to guess what the controller was like and missed by a mile)
BTW CNN is not a reliavable source of gaming info (or just about any info) they are the ones who pass off Jack Thompson comments as "insider info" and did a whole season on videogames as "Murder Trainers".
We shall all carefully follow the steps of Jack Thompson given in his callous answer, from now on every time you read a teen in a forum talking about killing himself or reciting goth poetry you shall immediately call 911! specially if its in a damn MGS forum! I mean that guy has to be SERIOUS! lying in a videogame site is a federal offense!
Also we should do something important with our lives, instead of wasting our FREE time playing games, such as devoting our lives to a 9-5 job so we can retire with not enough money to pay our bills, become servants of god and let our life fly by since heaven will probably be waiting for us after death (or maybe not, but that's ok) or maybe become famous lawyers who try to suck millions out of game companies for not being "moral" while unawarely giving real thugs great excuses for commiting crimes and getting away with murder "Hey is not MY fault that I shot that kid just now, GTA made me do it! just like in that scene where you fly to outer space and kill a cop?, the makers owe me money big time! they warped my fragile little mind!"
We shall ALL follow the wordly advice. Thanks Jack you have made life whole again! you really know Jack!
Cutting through the bullshit? but Nintendo will save the day? you do realize thats an oxymoron dont you?
Do you know whats the only next gen company that has not shown not a single demo, screen or video of their next console? thats right! Nintendo! the teaser video we all saw with the revolution controller is 100% fictional or just theoretical none of it is based in real gameplay! (look it up if you dont believe it) that video is 100% make up bullshit!
What companies have been feeding us with Bullshit hype on their next gen consoles? answer: ALL OF THEM! Sony trying to pass cinematics and real time demos AS playable games ? Bullshit. Ms HD-era hype shotly followed "hey this looks just like an xbox!?" Bullshit.
Nintendo controller teaser video? (BTW Actual REVIEWS of the prototype controller performance were not so positive IGN, EGM reported hand strain, wrist pain and slight loss of tracking, then carefully slipt those reports under the carpet!) bullshit!
Come on guys lets TRY at least to keep slashdot as an unbiased source for info? heres a clue about next gen company hype: it's all full of shit!
Number 1 rule of gaming and entertainment:
Never mind previews, mind the reviews and the people craving for the creators blood!
Ok no one knows yet what will happen in the next generation I will give you that, but heres what we do know, the xbox 360 just wont cut it in Japan and that alone means MS just wont win the console war no matter how you slice it,
Yes Nintendo with its new controller looks like a winner, unfortunately thats exactly the problem. whenever you mention good things about revolution you mention the controller and maybe price. Why? because the rest of the revolution is simply not impressive for starters the revolution wont have HD support, HDD or HD-DVD support. thats a lot of H' and D's missing there.
But thats not all, If you go and check the suggested specs for the revolution at IGN you will be shocked or to realize the revolution is only 2 times the power of the cube (bad!) even xbox 360 (which is suposedly the lesser of the two evils) can pull up to 6 times the CPU power of the xbox (and the xbox already has a better cpu than the cube).
Price is indeed a good deal.. for parents, adults and tech savy are a bit less touchy on the subject specially in countries where electronic geeks roam, remember that thing sony made the PSX the ps2 with a DVD-writer that was sold at $700 bucks? it sold out, I still cant get my head around that.
Ok so heres the deal, be honest, lets supose you are a regular guy (in case you are a Nintendo fan boy) , suddenly you spot MGS4, Gran turismo 4 and Final Fantasy 7-Remade in a HD-DVD format which allows up to 50 hours of photorealistic gameplay and it costs $500 for the entire package, and in the other hand you have Revolution with the controller and all and a copy of metroid prime that looks just a bit better than the previous version it costs $300. just for the sake of the argument lets suppose you have the extra $600 which one would you pick? be honest now.
Just to make you feel better (if you are a nintendo fanboy) dont worry, Nintendo doesnt really in "winning" the console race, it doesnt have to, Nintendo relies in the casual gamer providing original (or at least good) gameplay and fans to get a very good profit and at the end thats what it matters for a game any) company anyway.
The govt is just not very good at keeping secrets, "Area 51" has to be one of the least well kept secrets in the world, how can conspiracy theorist beleve in huge cover ups such as a JFK conspiracy, fake moon landings or "aliens" when these people arent competent enough to hide a damn building!?
One thing though, if they were unable to "hide" this base, probably newer secret bases have been made underground. They could still be easily located with a satellite thermal scanning (or similar tech). But hey at least they wouldnt appear clear as daylight in satellites.
Second life is basically free, the basic account (in which you are poor;D ) is completely free of charge, you do have to use your CC or Paypal but you are not charged anything unless you become a land owner and therefore change your subscription plan.
Ive been playing for a while and I know several people playing who have never payed a dime and stil make a nice (virtual) income there and have a ton of friends, jobs, etc.
If you are not currently in an mmog and you want to know what the fuzz is all about but you dont want to expend the cash, this is pretty much your best bet, although is not actually an rpg is just a virtual life simulator. Be warned though _it is_ just as addictive as most mmorpgs.
A lot of people dont realize that HD-dvd and blu-ray are new media, and therefore they will be pretty expensive until they become popular (just like dvds remember?) sony's blowing out of their ass all their games will use blue-ray, thats just not possible what do you think is going to be the price tag of the first blue ray game? how much will it cost to produce? will you be happy buying a $80-$90 game?
However in the long run, theres a good chance HD-dvd, blue-ray will become a popular formats (maybe in a year or two), and since consoles have a good 4 year run, is not a bad idea to offer the second batch of consoles with it or as an attachable device, you wanted it? well there it is, although just like sony ps2 hdd probably only a few games will use it. (at least until it becomes popular) yeah sony made the right choice by adding it, but they didnt added the HDD and probably they will have to the same stunt than ms and add it as an attachable on the long run.
Let me take a wild guess: the media will make a huge unproportioned campaign about the lurking horrors of xbox live, warning that each kid playing is in danger of being a victim of some psycho completely disregarding the fact that a caught red handed child molester got a "get out of jail" card and is happily lurking around as we speak?
Who the fuck cares if it was on live or messenger or whatever? the guy walked!
Im seeing it right now Jack Thompson and "My husband cheated on me while being president" Clinton bragging about the danger of videogames, calling for banning of xbox live (maybe wifi nintendo) "due to the dangers within" completely missing the fact that our fucking law system is unable to keep a pedophile asshole in the place it belongs? heres a note conservatives: don't you think we could do more for "our children" if we could keep the people who actually commited the crime in jail? what about if he had used a phone? whats the solution then? ban phones?
Clearly, their business model is such that if they only sold consoles, and not games, they would not recoop their costs. This makes sense because the relative profit margins on games are going to be much higher than on the consoles. This is how they "lose" money on the Xbox. The sum of the components, however, are not worth more than what they sell it for. Otherwise, people would just buy a bunch and sell it for scrap. If you buy Xbox's, Microsoft does not lose money. It's quite the opposite, every Xbox and game they sell gets them closer to recooping the original investment and eventually making quite a profit.
Now, thats a more reasonable explanation, thanks for the informative, intelligent answer.:)
Look guys, I dont want to start a conspiracy theory, this is just my opinion. I just think is too much of a coincidence, but It could be just about anything (simple incompetence or PR policies perhaps).
And about the Xbox price, a huge company like MS cant get good prices in buying hardware in large scale sales and therefore have to sell at a loss? Sorry but I wont buy that for a second. Believing MS PR reports? yeah right! They are still claiming the xmas shortage was just a lucky misunderstanding!
"Seriously, we didnt knew about the shortage is not like we had a ton of preorders in the USA months ago and we knew we couldnt cover them, and almost NONE in Japan yet we shipped like half of the production there! I mean how could we knew? it's fate I guess"
They ban you on Xbox Live if they detect any hardware changes like mod chips, larger hard drives, etc.
Of course they do, if they would allow you to use a modded xbox in live everybody would be able to cheat, also they are not SUPPOSED to allow hacking remember?
MS doesnt make their money just out of selling games (and I seriously doubt they LOSE money on each Console sale as they claim) they make a lot of money out of selling XDK's and licenses to publishers, the more people owning the console, the more publishers will want to port their games to it. Piracy and hacking is a surefire way to make the console available to those who cant afford or are unwilling to buy the games at their current price (not just in America but worldwide) besides they CANT clone the console just the games themselves so they have to buy the console anyway and MS knows that, thats why they have never been too severe with piracy or hacking (contrary to sony who is basically sinking PSP by doing the oposite.. and not releasing too many games either), do you actually believe they havent noticed there are groups doing great dashes and even homebrew games on their console using warezed xdks? entire companies dedicated to mod chips?
Do you think is just a big coincidence they released UNPROTECTED demos and games, which can easily be compared to PROTECTED ones by pro hackers?
They are not stupid you know? (at least not that stupid)
Yet IMO it would suck to own a modded or hacked xbox 360 since you wouldnt be able to log to xbox live which is a big part of the 360 deal.
First of all, 1up has become an extremely unreliable and biased source for info for some reason (money probably) second: IGN showed some of the technical info for the console and it seems it has been pretty constricted in terms of CPU, memory and even video power compared to the PS3 and the xbox360 add that to the fact that it uses a completely unstandard controller and you get a console that is extremely difficult to port to. But dont take my word for it, several publishers have already confirmed their ports to Xbox 360 and Ps3 but not to revolution. (including capcom, konami, ea, etc)
On the bright side, for most fans thats not really important, if you buy a revolution you want to play Nintendo original games, not ports.
Nintendo just made some math based on the American sales of the xbox360 and the preorders in Japan for the PS3 and realized they really have to gather some attention to their console or they might lost a pretty considerable share of their OWN market by the time the revolution is out. Therefore they are teasing their fans with some "unknown feature" ( a common practice for Nintendo) so they can stay in the spotlight a little longer and hopefully distract them long enough so they wont consider buying another console.
Nintendo fan: "well.. I was beginning to consider a PS3 but what about if this new and unknown feature is the one I have always dreamed about? I better hold on just a little longer".
I dont know about you guys, but Im tired of "bullshots", slice it any way you want, but if a sale is based on photos of a product and then you can prove those photos were faked or they didnt showed the product at all, it is misleading Advertising and the sale could be considered fraud in a court of law. If you are not currently in an mmog and you want to know what the fuzz is all about but you dont want to expend the cash, this is pretty much your best bet, although is not actually an rpg is just a virtual life simulator. Be warned though _it is_ just as addictive as most mmorpgs.
"Molesting" is.. basically a nice word for "rape"
:)
Now, thats a more reasonable explanation, thanks for the informative, intelligent answer.
Nintendo is killing off his second more famous mascot/franchise just before his new console arrives, yeah right.
btw: Did anyone noticed theres a rumor the new zelda game is going to be revolution exclusive after all?
