Why do people use adblock? Isn't that what the hosts file is for?

If you don't know what I'm talking about, the Hosts file lines in Windows\system32\Drivers\etc\
think of it as a blacklist.
Windows won't allow those sites to connect to you, thus, No ADS!
If you are thinking, golly, that's alot of typing, my hosts file is 421k. You can copy paste from others off the internet.
that's one less process, smaller footprint, and speeds up browsing somewhat, as the ad connections aren't made so the crap isn't loaded.

...would be effective virtualization. The only thing I need a Widers install for is to play games. If OSX.x could efficiently support DirecX or have a DirectX -> OpenGL translation-on-the-fly API, then the OS would be a non-issue and people would use whatever OS they wanted. I could play Eve - the only thing I do in Windows - on Mac OSX. THat would be the best of all possible scenarios.

the devs could program in DX, where their skill set lies, and the translation layer can deal with the OS issues.

Call it Socialism, callit capitalism, call it democracy. A rose by any other name. Communism is not inherenlty evil. Socialism is not inherently evil. All these things are ways to create a better society. They all fail due to the same things. Humans are Greedy. Humans are Lazy. These 2 conditions have a tendency to derail even the most sicere of social ideals. Untill people can think about how things will HELP OTHER PEOPLE before they think about how it will help them as an individual in the short term, we will always have this problem.
In other words, until that big fuckin' asteroid fixes everything.

I have issues with all "[insert product here] causes cancer" studies. The mechanisms that cause a cingle cell to become cancerous are not known. Ther are people who smoke for 30 years and don't develop cancer. Then there are folks like my father in law. Smoked 20 years, and got skin cancer, but not lung cancer. Until someone figures out DEFINITIVELY(sp?) how cancer starts, how can they say anything "causes" cancer?
