Am I the only one who doesn't get the point of this new-fangled "Desktop Search" idea? I mean, I tried installing the Google Desktop Search for awhile, but I never actually used it. In fact, I couldn't even think of a use for it. Unless you're hard drive is completely unorganized, or you're on a multi-user computer, I don't see the point of searching for things you should already know you have.
I've got Firefox installed on my computer, but I haven't yet completely switched over to it. My reasons for not switching to Firefox have dwindled down to the following:
1) Firefox doesn't allow me to open multiple browser windows by using a bound keyboard shortcut (CTRL+ALT+E)
2) Just as MSIE has the annoying, hard-to-get-rid-of "Links" folder in its Favorites menu, Firefox has its own required "Bookmark" directory which it will not let you delete.
3) Firefox still renders many pages oddly. Yes, I know this is because a lot of web pages have been developed with MSIE's bugs in mind. Regardless, it is still annoying.
Sorry, I haven't been following up on the whole e-voting thing. Will there be e-voting for the election coming up in a few days or will there not be? If so, link? I haven't seen anything to confirm or deny it, just a bunch of complaints about the system.
Did anybody else instantly think of Roller Coaster Tycoon when reading about this? I know I did. Sounds exactly like an expansion pack--RCT: Swiss Alps Edition. The "autonomous agents" would be similar as well I would think, since RCT park guests have a aesthetics variable wherein they evaluate an area's value based on the surroundings.
I don't see how this can be enforcable in any practical way. I mean, who is to say that you are giving a valid e-mail address in the first place. And furthermore, even if you do give a valid e-mail address, does that help to connect an internet identity to a indivudal, any more than an IP does?
I'm also worried about the fact that they are trying to limit anonymity. That is one of the staples of the entire concept of the Internet, isn't it?
Well what response should we expect from Google? Euphoria? For any company, even Google, it would make absolutely no sense to essentially provide free hard drive space to anybody and everybody on the planet. Of course they are not going to like it.
Well even when he throttled the upload bandwidth to 1 or 2 kbps there were some minor stutter problems. Only when all external uploading whatsoever was quelched would Skype play nice. This, of course, could quite possibly be a specific case and not true in general.
Well, a friend and I decided that since Doom 3 doesn't have coop, we'd effectively create our own using VoIP. Quite surprisingly, this was more fun than I could have imagined. Talking to a friend vocally whilst navigating the same dark corners and running into the same ugly creatures creates a better coop experience than you might think. Voice quality was very good, even when being played on the same channel/s as the Doom 3 audio. The only problem we ran into was stuttering of the vocal channel in Skype as a result of my friend using BitTorrent in the background (any sort of mild uploading seems to cause issues with Skype).
That is why you've got to put limits on the universe that you create. You think God didn't think about this when creating his Universe v1.0? Of course he thought of it. That is why we have Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, the speed of light, etc. as limiters.
While in theory I would agree that the MX700 charger is nice, it doesn't seem to work as well as it should. Now, only 6 months having had my MX700, my mouse will last maybe a night's worth of computer use and then will be dead. The charger seems to only charge the mouse about 10% now, so you would think it would be a "memory" thing, but I've already checked that.
Just saying the MX700 isn't all that awesome for some others.

I guess I missed the part in the article about the anagram-drilling Unix program.
On that same not, how are computers at playing Scrabble anyway? I would think that they'd be pretty good at it, since they could just generate a list of potential anagrams, check them in a dictionary, and then use a maximize function which would search a couple moves deep for the best scoring path.
Do any of you actually use Windows Firewall anyhow? I've got no compatibility issues whatsoever because I'm using a hardware firewall in the first place, meaning SP2's default firewall was turned off rather quickly.
As another poster mentioned, spontaneous rebooting is due to a 'feature' in Windows XP whereby the computer reboots rather than showing the proper BSOD.
To turn this 'feature' off, do the following:
1. Go to System Properties.
2. Go to the Advanced tab and click on the Settings button in the Startup and Recovery section.
3. Uncheck Automatically Restart.
A related question, how does this (and the speed of orbital rockets) compare to the fastest man-made object (whatever that may be)?
The important question is, what would Mach 10 be in warp speed?

Guess I am too late, the munchkins already switched the article link to the .gov site.
Ermm, which NASA are we talking about again?

Woot! My sig is on topic.
It has GOT to suck when you miss one of these because it got sent to the spam folder and deleted.

I always knew Microsoft was a Mickey Mouse corporation.
...it helps you pick up chics. (as evidenced by all the hot chicas using it on their front page)
Sometimes I think you people actually take JOY out of directly linking to large JPGs and MPGs on /.
Ahh well, Armadillo Aerospace is down, but at least there is still Union Aerospace to look at. Err... wait.
