    We perceive things in 3d and can relate a lot more easily to real-world landmarks than abstract notions - a realistic 3d map of a city would mean that it is more life-like.

    Yes, but then you will get lost in the virtual city just as easily as in the real one, one of the benefits of a maps it that it abstracts the physical place - so you can see the forest from behind the trees...

    I wonder how the enamy AI will use these features? If I am walking along should I worry about a builing crashing on my head? This will certenly add a level of stratagy to FPS that never existed before, especialy if the AI is "smart"...

    Not to mention that MS invests in it's developer community more then any other company, the amount of free seminars, online and in person is astounding. That's one thing that MS is realy good at - working with developers...

    I don't think so, I think that GPD applies to changes to the GPL'ed Software or software derived from it, not software written on it... e.i. If JAVA was GPL'ed that would not include any code writtin in JAVA - just the compiler...

    Are you trying to imply that sql injection is a windows only problem?

    Not at all, I was makeing a point about that firewalls do not secure anything....

    And about 'winsock' crashing...

    most significant expliots are caused by unchecked buffers. winsock is one I knew off the top of my head - and yes it's been patched now.

    Agreed, but the point is that a firewall does not secure a server; A server is only as secure as the applications running on it> software installed> Opperating System. Don't let a firewall give you a warm-and-cozy feeling...

    Yea, but I can overrun the buffer by posting a grapload of data to 80 and winsock will crash and execute some code I cooked up.... better yet unless the website designers were deligent in using valid charecter checking I can use sql injection on ms sql server (mysql?) and have the server ftp out to my system and download any software I want....

    since I've done much in OOP w/ C++ (Mostly do ASP.NET and SQL nowdays)... But can't you physicaly save a instance of an object? I seam to remember you could bit-by-bit save to a stream....

    Verio has some nice windows hosting solutions, so does existhosting.

    Verio is in my experiance more mature, they have a better tech support staff and respond the quickest. they also provide MS-SQL server DB's and mySQL, as well as ODBC drivers and asp.net support.

    existhosting is realy cheap: $6.50/mo for a linux account, 7.50 for windows 2003, mysql is included and for the windows hosting asp.net and all the goodies...

    It looks like the software uses screenshots to take snapsots of windows and then changes the background picture of your desktop to "Animate" the movment.

    This is a true 3D desktop currently being worked on by SUN. I can not wait to play with it (NOTE: runs onlu on linux)...

    you can also right-click on the steam icon in the taskbar and select "off line"... it wil not try to connect, usefull for lan-parties....

    emulation is not illegal, what's illegal is breaking the End User license agreement. All they do is just change the "Rights" section of the EULA.
