You know.. I just love what IBM is doing with Linux right now, but I wouldn't trust them to do the right thing any further than I could throw Bill Gates. I can see all of the Linux eggs going into one basket in the future, if the opensource community is not careful. Who knows, maybe it would be a good thing... Time will tell.
Hmm.. I've never been infected with spyware or adware, and I'm just a little bit astonished to find that well known corporations such as Nordstroms utilize these types of tools.
I would love to have a list of companies using this type of stuff so I could choose to spend money elsewhere. If such a list does not already exist, someone should definitely create one.
Evolution is NOT tought in our schools as truth. Evolution is taught as "The Theory of Evolution." You seem to be confused, so let me provide you with the definition of the word theory:
Theory - An assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a conjecture.
No atheist scientist could ever admit any finding which would cast doubt on the pre-conceived notions of abiogenisis, because to do so would destroy his religion.
How is it that you've magically come to the conclusion that all atheistic scientists look to a single concept as a faith-based religious enterprise? Most scientists I know understand that hypotheses and theories are nothing more than ideas with varying levels of certainty that never approach the 100% range (AKA faith). If something is invalidated, then GREAT! Chances are some other concept has been illuminated by that invalidation. That's what true science is all about.
You seem to be missing something, but I'm not quite sure.
They mean perfect skin...as in...a perfect approximation of the various visual properties seen in any type of skin...bet the sallowness of an alcoholic, the dryness of...blah blah blah.
Recently, I purchased a Sony CLIE SJ20 for this exact purpose. After a fair amount of research, I decided to go with a monochrome model for the extra battery life and reduced cost. After reading a ton of professional and epinions-style reviews of this model, I came to the conclusion that it was definitely the best choice for these purposes.
The best feature is the black and white monochrome screen which happens to be amazingly easy to read in most any light. Oh, and it's quite cheap, also. I snagged mine for a measly 50 bucks on ebay in like-new condition, and I am very happy with it.
My experience with OLED is exactly opposite. I have a phone (LG VX6000) with an external OLED display, and it is brighter and more readable than any other type of display I have yet seen in any light.
Look for companies which have strong relationships with big IT outsourcing firms. Their IT departments are full of novices a lot of the time. Since these large corporations usually promote from within, you won't really have much luck getting an IT job off the street. If you're willing to do some remedial work for about a year, though, your chances of hitting it big are pretty damn good. Internal job postings at huge corporations are quite plentiful these days due to all of the layoffs to cut costs in the past few years. The mostly incompetant IT departments at these types of corporations will snatch up a person with solid knowledge/experience in a heartbeat.
This might make it easier to delete directories full of junk waiting to be sorted that just keep piling up and piling up until the task of sorting them becomes too complex to even think about.
If I could snipe it from across the platter, then I wouldn't have to feel any emotional attachment.
I think that's the bigger impact... Earth as a small dot can help to show humans just exactly how insignificant our planet can be in the grand scale of the universe. Sounds like the small dot doesn't feed your ego in quite the same way as the pictures from Apollo 8 did. Well good... If you want a big emotional impact, take a look at the recent "deepest space picture ever" taken by hubble. Then count the galaxies you can see in a picture that shows an area about the size of what you would see if you looked at the sky through a drinking straw.
I think the shift towards 3d accelerated desktops is part of a natural progression towards the Ultimate GUI. Eventually, I would hope to have a user interface which is equally as user friendly as normal 3-Dimensional reality.
We may not enjoy the steps in-between on our way to achieving this GUI, but the potential rewards seem to be more important than some luddite notion that the GUI's we have currently are sufficient for whatever purposes we may have.
Novelty, while sometimes cumbersome, is the driving force that pushes us forward towards genuine improvement. In other words, a novel idea might not always be the most efficient one, but the odds are high that refinements of such novel ideas will lead to increased efficiency...eventually.
what is funnny is that this dude thinks looks are all that matter.
I really don't think that was the point he was trying to get across, at all. I don't think he was even implying that, actually.
A lot of Apple users seem to take offense every time someone mentions their beloved brand name in a PC context. Clearly this author was trying to illustrate a very simple point about the Zen aesthetics and their derivitive nature. Look at it this way... You might not fall in love with a computer purely because of the looks, but there are a lot of computer users out there that barely give anything else a second thought.
What's truly funny is that you chose not to understand what that dude thinks...purely for the sake of being offended.
Yes, as others have said, it is called lucid dreaming. Watch waking life or follow any number of the links that have been posted in response to this item.
Normally, I wouldn't post just to say that I agree, but....
I agree. Maybe I'll be able to direct my dreams so that I might meet the person who made the post and torture them to a slow and painful death. Ok wait, that's a bit extreme. Maybe that's why he doesn't want people dreaming about him.
Here am I working my ass off because I believe in doing my own work so I can learn while everyone else tries to cheat.
You're getting something out of your education that all of the cheaters aren't. That's what you're paying for. Why all the contempt for the cheaters? Isn't the lack of a learning experience punishment enough?
Yea, that's how I was. Never noticed any headaches or anything else... I never had problems sleeping.
Don't be fooled, though. The caffiene is still affecting you. You will get much better sleep if you're not hopped up on caffiene. Caffiene keeps you from reaching the lower frequencies of brainwave activity where your body recovers the best... Quit for a week, and you might notice feeling much more refreshed in the morning. I know I did. That's why I never went back.
The Royal Gorge is a suspension bridge. Suspension bridges are a completely seperate animal.

You were ok until you said this:
The reason why games don't lead to violence in real life imho is because its easy to clearly differentiate between life and a video game.
Then, suddenly, I found myself checking to make sure your nickname wasn't Grossman.
You seem to be missing something, but I'm not quite sure.

What isn't going to be included in DOOM3?
Kitchen sink... Nope... That's in there.

Neat, that's what I do....exactly. My image needs to be updated, though.. :(

It's a parlor trick. Long term memory is a much more complex animal. Attention -> Intention -> Retention

Get it? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Ok...not that funny.
It's a good thing I drink coke.
You made a lot of sense until you said this...
BLASPHEMY. This is Slashdot. Never say anything positive about Microsoft again or you will feel the wrath of my monkey.

Actually, it has been said by id that ALL of that trailer is in-game footage. NONE of it is CG. That's just the doom engine... Marvel in it's glory.
