Eventually some of them would have to sound as good as Megaman tracks.

I'd be impressed by that feat. I've always been really fond of the music in most Capcom games (with the notable exception of Street Fighter 3, which blows goat cheese).

Anyway, I managed to get this thing to spew out a few really surprisingly good tunes, but just the same they would only make for a good groundwork for musical ideas. In the 30 seconds the tunes tend to last, it never really sounds like the song ever actually begins.

(Nintendo barely survived, and Sega perished a few years later).

You were doing so well right up till this point.

Nintendo has never been and still is not in any danger of going anywhere. At any given time all of their supported platforms have many spots in the top 10 selling titles on the platform-wide charts. Their largest first party titles sell nearly as many copies as the most of even the best chart-busters on the other platforms.

Nintendo can sell less cubes than Microsoft sells boxes, and Nintendo is still shoving a flaming foot of victory right up Microsoft's ass because their volume of first party sales is so high.

To illustrate the point, take Halo for example. Nearly all XBox owners bought Halo 1 and Halo 2. Very few other titles on the XBox have enjoyed that kind of success. On the Gamecube, the list of chart-busting first party titles that sold to nearly anyone seriously playing their cube isn't limited to Metroid Prime 1 and 2. There's also Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, Smash Brothers, Starfox Assault, Mario Party, Double Dash, and so on. Keep in mind these are all Nintendo branded titles.

The situation was very similar on the N64 as well. It's just a basic fact that Nintendo has always relied very heavily on it's first party titles and has profited very handsomely as a result.

Nintendo didn't just barely survive. Nintendo has been doing exceptionally well. The falling value of the Yen the past few years has hurt Nintendo much worse than sales have.

Just because the numbers don't make it out to appear as if Nintendo is doing just fine doesn't mean it isn't the case. Microsoft continues to just piss away sewers full of money on the XBox, and many believe this will continue to be the case with the 360.

In the worst case scenerio that the falling support for the Cube will carry over into the Revolution, that doesn't change the fact that Nintendo still owns the handheld market.

Despite Sony's claims to the contrary, the GBA still dominates, and the DS is fat and happy with stellar sales. (Though I honestly wish I understood how Nintendogs has become so popular....)

There's also one other thing to remember.

Practically every Gamecube player is still waiting for Twilight Princess, delayed though it may be.

If the Xbox is lucky, it MIGHT see one last huge seller before the 360 replaces it. Don't count on it, though.

(BTW - DC, PS2, XBox, GC, GBA, DS, PSP... Yes, I got'em all...)

I think the psp is great, and I will buy one.. I am just waiting for movies I actually LIKE.. I'm more of an indie / forien flick kinda guy. So x-mas will tell me when or if I should buy.

You think it's great? Try owning one. It's not that great. Granted, it's a marvelous machine and COULD be great. But right now it's about worthless.

And forget UMDs altogether. The entire concept of a movie on a UMD is absolutely retarded. What I do instead is simply rip movies off of DVD and encode them as MPG, then transfer them over to my 1 gig Memory Stick Duo. The average movie, once converted with good quality down to a size suitable for the PSP, works out to be about 500-700 megs. Less if you drop the frame rate to 15fps or even further yet if you drop the sound quality. 15fps, low bitrate, mono -- you could probably fit a whole movie in under 300 megs.

Rather than buying UMDs at $25 per pop, I recommend buying a 1 gig memory stick and going with DVDs instead. At least the DVDs can be used anywhere.

That still doesn't solve the issue with a shortage of good games, though.

Nintendo has their game console. It is hard to undersell on your only source of income.

That would matter if Nitendo weren't profiting, but they are. They may not be doing as well as projected due to a lot of factors, but sales aren't one of those factors.

The Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS lines are doing quite well, and the Gamecube is still doing respectably in Japan. Also, most of the best top selling Gamecube titles are Nintendo's very own titles.

If anything, when it comes to the video game market, Nintendo is surviving where most other companies would have failed long ago. Their market position is not a favorable one and they're still regularly reporting profits.

I will also assume you have no idea exactly how much money Nintendo really does have? Nintendo can hardly be likened to Sega. Sega was hurting long before the Dreamcast was launched, and poor management decisions coupled with a few other factors forced Sega into a serious money losing situation. A totally different scenerio than we see going on here with Nintendo.

Just because they aren't dominating all over the competition doesn't mean they're going to shrivel up and die. Esspecially not if the GBA and DS keeps selling as well as it has been.

  21. Giant Catfish... on Grizzly-sized Catfish Caught in Thailand · · Score: 3, Interesting

I live in Tennessee. Where I live it's a locally known phenomenon that some catfish caught (one every few years) are shockingly large. (I assume this was normal everywhere?)

I remember reading in local papers at least a few times in the past 15 years or so that one of exceptionally impressive size had been caught. Now, the funny thing is I have actually seen photos, polaroids even, of these fish since I was a child and never thought twice about it. What I always thought was "Some catfish get really big, some get insanely big." The largest photo I saw was of a huge, fat, disgusting catfish that really DID fill the bed of a small truck. (Think 80's/90's S10 pickup).

The largest catfish I've ever seen personally (not counting photos) was not quite that big. It was only about 3-4 feet long (almost as tall as my little brother at the time. I have pictures somewhere...)

I never even stopped to think that the fish wasn't just big, but actually an endangered variety of fish.

As I do some reading on the internet about Giant Catfish in this area I find very little, or at least nothing "Official". So that makes me wonder if it isn't the case that people around here are just "used to it" and the word doesn't really spread to those who might be interested in exactly this sort of thing?

Maybe these creatures are more common than one might think? Still, I would have to assume they are endagered.

I do know there is/was an 80 lb catfish on display at the Tennessee Aquarium. Though that really isn't in the same league as most giant catfish.

Katamari Damacy and Yoshi Touch-n-Go are two recent games that stand out in my mind as really original ideas.
