Descripitivists... making excuses for the ignorant and lazy. Commonness and history are irrelevant for what is or is not a valid rule. Everyone can be wrong, and they can be wrong for centuries or for a few weeks. Logic and clarity should overrule any history or popularity of a mistake.

Dictionaries are usually descriptivist, so asking them what is valid is like asking a kid if he wants more candy. They'll slavishly record every misuse that comes around.

That said, context matters. In casual conversation and verse starting a sentence with "and" or ending it with "at" is just fine. It's often too difficult to summon the right word and word order in real-time. When you have time to form your thoughts there's less excuse.

If you say, "Where's that at?", habitually... well that's just lazy and ignorant. Drop the "at" and say "where is", or clarify at what/when.

Toleration of Ebonics or AAVE if you must, is one of the worst crimes honkey have committed against blacks. Granted this crime is also self-inflicted, but white people aren't helping by patting black people on their widdle heads and saying "it's OK that you can't handle subject-verb agreement".

It's not OK. It is a huge disservice to blacks. We could make a huge step toward closing the gap between whites and blacks in socio-economic conditions by teaching blacks how to speak English. Ebonics feeds racists ammunition. While white liberals smugly pat themselves on the back, all the while guaranteeing that blacks will never catch up unless they are raised affluent white people like Obama. Well, most blacks don't have that opportunity.

The creative == mac is fanboi myth. Apple did a good job of giving macs to such programs early on. But multimedia development is just as easy on Windows.

In general the shift to Macs is universities trying to be trendy. They are paying more for less so they can say "look kids, we're cool *awkward grin and thumbs up*. These kids are going to have to switch back to PCs when they get to the real world.

Plus the people who will be stuck supporting and using these macs have little to no experience with them. So when something breaks you'll have to go find a fashion or interior design major to fix it.

Linux is great for universities so long as they are servers the students don't have to touch. Math and science programs have use for Linux as well. But there again, free has a price. What is the cost of systems that don't place nice and have so few people who know how to use or support them? Just wait until someone says "hey, I need to use this device/program but it won't work in Linux, we have to buy a second computer with windows on it". It's not really a savings if you still have to buy windows go get things done. /works for a major university that is eagerly slurping on the Steve Jobs cock

Piracy is ship to ship armed robbery. They kidnap, ransom and KILL PEOPLE. Copying that floppy is nothing like pointing a gun at someone to demand money or loot. It's not even an apt metaphor.

Call it theft if you must, even though that's not entirely accurate either. You can't steal something that has a value of $0.00. Any product that can be duplicated perfectly infinitely and distributed at cost that's so low that it can't be measured gives it a supply of infinity. The demand for ANY digital product is finite. Only so many people will want it over an array of prices from 0 to infinity. Any finite demand divided by a infinite supply generates a value as close to zero as makes no odds.

Software is worthless. Data is worthless. Sell something else.
