Linux is great for universities so long as they are servers the students don't have to touch. Math and science programs have use for Linux as well. But there again, free has a price. What is the cost of systems that don't place nice and have so few people who know how to use or support them? Just wait until someone says "hey, I need to use this device/program but it won't work in Linux, we have to buy a second computer with windows on it".
