Honestly the dammage would be more to the US than to Canada I think. I have one thing to say, If you think Iraq or the Saudi's are the largest exporter of natural gas and oil to the USA you would be wrong.

Canada would hurt certainly, but I can see the US getting the shorter straw in that situation.

Canadian's ARE starting to get pissed off at the US's REPEATED violations of our so called "FREE" trade agreement. The US seem to think any agreement is only binding so long as they benifit from it.

Correct we Canadian's are a very moderate lot and it will take an awful lot to piss us off and so someting about it, but when we do...

In all likelihood, it would not be cutting the US off from out exports or a limitation in imports, but rather we would simply find other markets to pedel our wares. Simple as that.

I agree. What I don't understand (and perhaps there is good reason, like legel stuff or licencing or something) is why microsoft doesn't go to places like Boardgamegeek.com and pick the top board games, or visit a few of the German board game sites, and port them to the xbox (most have been ported to java by now) and let cry the dogs of war on Live. I mean that would rock. Not only would the ports most likely be very simple to do (as as mention most exist online is some form or another). Then a la bungie you keep track of stats, and run ladders and leader boards etc... It would be explosive let me tell you. The ONLY thing that i can see being a problem is making a deal with the makers of those games... but I mean they could get some serious cash through licencing and it would be a golden opertunity for them to get better penertration into the market which up to now can only be called fringe. Anyway it seems natural to me, they would be FOOLS not to take advantage of a resource that already exists that would almost definiatly give them an edge against anyone else. Not to mention let gamers play new and inventive games.
    my 2 cents.

Besides I wasn't offering an opinion on the subject actually, I was mearly pointing out that you should think about the source. You comments mearly illuminate this.

So if a developer who is NOW solely developing for PS3 says the Xbox2 sucks, well you can go ahead and take that as a truth. Myself, I will wait and see.

I realized this years ago. I am sure there are many like me who at the thought of upgrading their computer syetem for 3000$ to play games balked. Why do that when you can buy an xboxen for 300$. The ONLY negitive is that you can't rip off games. Of course people got mod chips to do even this. I for one didn't go that far as I can just rent the game. I have yet to play a game that keeps my attention longer than a week anyway (perhaps Halo2).

This also means that I don't have to run windows in my PC as I don't need to (can't really) play games on it. So its a Linux Boxen for computer, and Xboxen for games. Besides all the really good games you can play on Linux anyway. I can still get my Enemy Territory fix. It may be a bit of a bugger to get some of them working, but hey I used to live in the 286 world back in the day. You had to learn your computer just to play games, and we were glad. Hell thats how I started learning about computers in the first place. The diveragance from PC to console has been a long time coming.

Actually now that I starting talking about it, it kinda makes you wonder. I bet there was some genius working for MS that saw the divergance growing, like probably what is going to happen in this next round of consols (increased penatration). They probably know that a great deal of the reason people still use windows is because you can play games. With PC getting more expensive and the console technology climbing they must have known that they will loose MASSIVE market share when the divergance (or is it convergance, whatever) happens and tons move to console and no longer need a gaming PC... I guess it is no surprise that MS made such as big move or bid into the console market, they are just protecting market share.

Look at me, I now run Linux like all you zelots out there, but I am still getting my Microsoft fix from my xboxen and i happy to do it.

    Anyway thats eff from me.

I would take what a developer says with a grain of salt. They have a vested intrest in many ways, so thier opinions can be slanted heavily. Off hand I see two factors, one does Factor 5 gain montary rewards from saying what they did? Sony Contracts? Two this is company that probably has deadlines and bottom lines. I can think of one simple reason why to switch to the PS3 over the xbox, the delayed launch date of the PS3 may extend the life of thier company or save their asses if they have nothing produced in time for the xbox2 launch. Anyway to say so-and-so developer says it sucks and they would know so it must be true, is an oversimplification to say the least.

That would mean from my fuzzy logic (bullshit) that the Mach OS is a OS designed to be run as a distributed system like Corba (again its all kinda fuzzy). Wasn't it the great sage SCO that basiclly said that Linux is based on their Pripority UNIX code. Since that must be true its purpose and UNIX's purpose must be very close indeed! If you (as the reader) will conside that these MAY be correct and not total bs then that means you are compairing two OS's that were designed for very differnt reasons and purposes. If that is the case it isn't really an apples to apples comparision and thus more complex than a simple than "Linux ROCKS!" or "Mach is a razorblade". Ok you are correct, sort of. What I was saying is that the current console games are not replayable. Basically for why you said, they are not big enough to have the diversity to attarct me to play again to see what else is out there. I would agree with your selections as well (I am not sure of I have played Ultima 7 or not). HOWEVER I do believe those are ALL for the PC. Neverwinter Nights was also great, but also for the PC. Hell I have played stupid rpgs like Curse of the Azure Bonds and old stuff like that plenty of times. My point was why don't titles like these come out for the xBox as it is essientally a PC in a box. Hell it has a DVD player standard, and a HD, rpg size games should be easy to create for such a system. However it is my suspision that software companies buisness models for consols are preventing thix more than anything else (why release one rpg if you can split it into 3 diffent games that you can release sepreatly and make more money faster).

just a quick response... I don't know about DW7 (in fact I had no idea there was such a thing for the xbox or any console for that matter, I only know of the orginal for Nintendo, which was great!), but how long has it been since Morrowind came out? Wasn't it game of the year in like 2001 or 2002... Its a BIT dated to say the least. Its hard to use that as an example here. The first ultima was long as well, but it doesn't really mean anything (or I could go play the orginal text based Zork for petes sake).

I think what the parent is saying is that the industry does not appear able or refuses to create games of this type. Personally I think it is a combination of 3 things 1)Production values (and costs) make longer game prohitive 2) With the way software Co. pump out sequals, it makes more sense to make shorter games, so they can pump them out faster and make more money (can't have you consumers playing your game too long, otherwise you end up competeting with yourself. 3) Console market has opened up so much and now covers such a broad demographic that it really has dumbed down the user base. That is the average attention span of your console gamer is less intense. Anyway I guess this wasn't a short note after all. That all I got..
    Out.

I agree, the indusry is going downhill in this respect. The last console game RPG I have played that was any length was FF7. Don't get me wrong many of the RPG's coming out are very good, just too damn short. There is no way I should be able to finish an RPG in 20-30 hours. This should not happen. I should not have to spend my 70-80$ bucks on a game than I will beat on a weekend. Why the hell would I buy it. I can rent it for 5$ and beat it. They also seem to have a tendancy to put how "re-playable" their games are. I am sorry RPG games no matter if you do dark/light side, or whathave you are NOT replayable. I have yet to replay any RPG after I have beat it. While some minor elements will be different, most of it will be the same. RPG's typically on the Xbox suck anyway (by suck I mean very few, and very short, content actually quite good). That always puzzled me as the xbox is basically just a pc in a box, why can they not make a pc like RPG for the xbox, its crazy. Anyway thats my rant.
