In related news, what other products besides Google Desktop Search, Spybot Search & Destroy, Google Toolbar and Service Pack 2 are Slashdotters installing on their parents' Windows machines?
A. Problem 1: general public's lack of driving skill and situational awareness. Solution: a much more difficult and thorough driver licensing program nation-wide.
B. Problem 2: Speeding and all of the comments brought up by everyone going the same speed - all the time, versus some going slow/fast. Additionally, we've had the same speed limits on highways for decades now. Cars can travel faster now, both comfortably and economically. Solution: nation-wide mass-transport system that goes at a high rate of speed - similar to the one in Minority Report. To the speed junkies (myself included), race tracks are still out there (which are a blast to go to and have fun driver ed events (not a normal driver ed 'class' but a race-around-the-track one). Other potential issue is transportation of large goods, but such a system is years/decades away. Ramble off.
C. Random Observation: Used & older cars will not have this. Result: used car market gets another boost in my mind.
- this is right, the day/night thing. they're both NYC. gotham (batman) is NYC by night, metropolis (superman) is NYC by day. look at the comics. batman operates at night, superman flies around with the sun.
What fr0dicus is referring to, in my opinion, is the fact that gaming drives hardware improvements/upgrading, not applications. I could run Windows XP (gasp) on a laptop that was ways behind the times (300 some mhz processor). Could it run a game released in the past 2-3 years? Not a chance.
Sony has the rights to the franchise, so they grant themselves a period of time where it is only available on their platform (the PS2). After that, if they choose to, they allow other platforms to pick it up. That's why it took so long for PC & Xbox versions of GTA3 to come out, etc.
In some games, when Porsche has not granted permission, the game company will go after Ruf - a small company in Germany that takes normal Porsches and builds Rufs from them. As of now they are the smallest car manufacturer in the world - a product of the low volume and the fact that the cars they fashion get their own VINs.
However, sometimes Porsche grants permission (PGR2) but in the past they made their own game - 2000's Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed (website has since closed, and still one of the most realistic car sims). All in all, an interesting topic.
In the onslaught (think BF1942) mode, I was in the process of invading the opposing army's base inside the belly of a tank of course, just blasting away. After scoring a 'Multi-Kill' (2 frags at once), I then progressed beyond to a 'MEGA-KILL'. A few rounds from the main gun later...the epic words 'MONSTER KILL' made themselves widely known across my screen In my efforts to fumble around at the top of my keyboard searching for the PrintScreen button, I was trapped and burned alive in aforementioned tank.
So I'm curious, anyone get a MONSTER KILL yet, and/or get a screenshot? It would mean so much to me...capturing such violence as a True Accomplishment.
Regarding the map - I thought the terrain was designed extremely well. The different canyons funneled the players into packed clusters of death amidst the sprawling landscape.
I agree too - that the speed compared to BF'42 is a big plus too.
Regarding your point #1 (and a concern of mine too):
From the article (1st link up top there)
"PC gamers will be able to battle against 32 players over the Internet or 64 via a LAN."
Quite the morbid commentary posted beside the article there, but the Chevy Corvette Z06 already possesses HUD-capabilities - speed, current gear, etc. Helmets would be a nice next step, but incorporating it into more cars would be nicer.
On a different note - the same concept applies to the Star Wars franchise. Until George Lucas dies, there will be no more SW movies after Episode 3 (unless he has a drastic change of mind, but that's extremely doubtful).
The question is - who will Lucas give the rights of the franchise to?
Negatives: -Fairly resource-intensive program -Takes time to find all the features and figure out all the tricks and shortcuts to operating it -An abundance of features
Positives: -Allows for creativity in customizing tools/settings/functions for personal use -Covers many business modelling themes/motifs -An abundance of features
I can just see the Nokia ad now: *picture of a crater* This is where I used my MUTANT POWER (And yes, Colossus was my favorite character) N-Gage: +1 Coolness
Precisely! We just need that kick-in-the-pants be it Pearl Harbor-style to get us out of the Depression (albeit a very negative kick-in-the-pants), or a Sputnik-like one similar to China's plans.
Three cheers for The Space Race Part Duex.
Stars think that because of the fact that they are famous and are seen by millions of people, they have the right to have an opinion about anything.
Uh...you might not live in America, but hereabouts we do have that right.
I won't agree with your opinion, but I will die for your right to express that opinion. People forget that all too often.
I gather you have not seen the movie.
Ah yes, you refer to yet another timeless pearl of wisdom - a British sports car's natural environment...broken down on the side of the road.
-- I'm half-joking of course (friend of a Lotus owner)
Stealing is wrong.

In a familiar theme...Gmail.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who stopped finding his show absolutely hilarious once I turned 17.

is that you're staring at pixels instead of pages.

Steelers?
(singing) Here we go... (/singing)
But does it advertise to the central server the precise brand or type of brew you were drinking?
Oh the possibilities...
From the yahoo article: "The first three "Star Wars" films debut for the first time in digital format on Sept. 21."
So any bets on when an image file is leaked?

I swear, this will be the last batch of RAM I'll ever need...
