If the students have to use them, then the teachers should have to as well. It'll prevent teachers from giving one-on-one history lessons about the Clinton administration.

It all comes down to power and the ability to exercise it. People don't get their kicks from exercising power, just from posessing it. That is the scourge of human existance: power and its ability to corrupt.

Yes, it does imply that there are certain groups dedicated to pirating the material of only one stuido or company. And who are these mysterious donors who provide the insiders, packagers and distributors with the hardware to put this content out there? They could be the studios and labels trying to wage war on their competitors. Look at the Netflix group: they could be financed by Blockbuster in an effort to damage a competitor.
This could be the most widespread example of industrial espionage in history.

EvilGoodGuy has a point. It could be possible that some of these site outages were caused by a "domino effect." When one or two sites were taken out (MPAA? DDoS?), people panicked and started trying to grab the torrents they could from other sites, fearing that these other sites might get shut down as well. This caused these sites to collapse under the immense traffic, fueling the suspicion that there was a large-scale crackdown.
So, please, give it a rest. Just for a few days. Let things calm down and then see what really happened.
