    hehe, most of my friends are 20-somethings, half my age. Even they are impressed with my stereo, 8-tracks and all! I finally bought the dream system of my youth, only took about 25 years to get it. Top-end pioneer 4-channel 8-track and dual EQ plus everything but reel-to-reel deck.

    Seems like the article might be mildly appropiate for general consumption. Someone would say mouse for everything i bet. Hell, if i gave em way to pick letters with the mouse they'd probably do it at work.

    However telling nerds that a keyboard works best for doing text stuff seems...ah....well....stupid.

    I bet a yoke works best for controlling a flight sim, but i ain't writing an article about it.... unless i get a grant to do so perhaps ;p

    Heck that was as stupid for news as the tv stations showing that NOTHING is happening in the Jackson trial at the moment. Sad when nothing=news.

    All the old laserjet 5's i buy off ebay have a cancel button. Most used button on the printer ;)

    I am glad i picked a printer and keep getting them.
    For one thing you only have to explain how to use em once to both people and the computers :)

    My 1st thought on this was how do i change ink cartridges every 60 secs tho.

    Hmm, good point. With Mods you can play your favorites a looong time :)

    I and a few online friends are playing a race game on PC/internet BECAUSE they can mod it to be like our old favorite MMOG that went away. They have added really cool muscle cars and made a lobby themselves. The game itself is a direct console port right down to entering your name with the arrow keys and did not have internet play even (supposed to be lan only)!

    Flatout and MCOmod BTW

    The best of both worlds :)

    i am curious as to console quality cause i can crank the res up enough to make my mid-range comp stutter. I cant imagine the PS2 compares although gameplay rocks either way.

    I'm with this for the most part.

    A fee on disposal won't work, they will just be dumped on the side of the road.

    So it will be on sale or manufacturer and added in, same diference. Maybe include in local garbage/recycling fees is an option.

    But it needs to be easy/obvious.

    I actually dont know what i am supposed to do with this old monitor. I dont imagine tossing it in the garbage is the best solution although it would fit and the truck is automated so it would go ... However it goes to an incinerator, is burning CRTs the best idea?

    I dont think they do much if any sorting there. I am not going back to see after watching em toss in a truck full of old vinyl molding. Does a nice hot fire REALLY make burning vinyl (or CRTs) safe?

    At work of course it just gets tossed in dumpster.

    Curious now, i'll see if i can find what we are supposed to do with em.

    Pretty much.

    A few companies sell sco unix as part of their software/hardware package. Our accounting system came on a Ibm box with SCO unix (forget whcih flavor). They are still being sold although these guys only sell a handful a year, there must be more like em.

    I did happen to ask what happens if SCO evaporates. It sounded like they would leave it run as long as possible. We dont actually touch the unix stuff its all in the other software. It could probably run forever. If our cost would go down because they no longer pay a license fee is another story probably.

    I picked up a box of old wang pc keyboard.

    apparently they used IBM or copied them, they are identical (in feel too) to the old ibm :)

    Our main billing person still uses her ibm keyboard from her 286 :)

    If you dont look at keys to type, who cares if they are labeled?

    Now if someone would build me a funny plug to ps/2 adapter for the old mainframe keyboards i have...

    Does this give ISP a valid reason to choke off voip?

    If 911 is now required to work, will they be afraid of being sued if they are down when someone calls 911?

    My baby is dieing and the DNS is screwed up again...who do i sue?!?

    Some of those converted cars come from interactiveracing.com i think that was correct spelling.

    I was dreaming of them when i bought a controller from them. Hehe i have $1500 stearing wheel/pedals/ racing seat for my computer :) Even that level is an absolute blast!

    I imagine a full-blown do-it-yourself version would be a vast savings, i actually thought about using one of my old Opels in the garage. Commercial conversions run $10's of thousands :(

    Yikes, and i thought the boss' 17" monster was over the top. The thing is bigger and faster (a real pentium4 2.6, no wimpy centrino or M stuff) than my desktops. Gotta say tho FLight Sim 2004 is a real jaw dropper, even with built-in video! Of course if he is on battery he better not plan on flying too far...

    I can see this selling for the wow factor.

    I think luggables may actually make a comeback, if we can't count the current stuff as luggables already. Boss's 17" is NOT going on anyones lap as others noted already, but its handy to keep coffee warm except they put the cupholder on wrong side.

    One thing that can cause big problems with Norton:

    It's the first target of viruses!

    I just found a virus in the Norton Liveupdate file! Something slipped in under the radar. Must have been missed in email scan, only place it should come from on this machine(he's not much of a surfer at all,etc) or got in before norton was patched.

    I imagine this would mess with uninstall, etc as well as updates obviously. I did get it uninstalled but XP may not be as happy with it as 98 was. Half these things are inert under 98 now :)

    Discovered when deleting norton (ok, i've had other problems with em too including a totally hosed windows system after an upgrade) and replaced with ZA w/AV. The liveupdate file was leftover after norton uninstall.

    Didnt note which virus, but they are all in big families now it seems anyway.

    hehe my 1st thought of higher res pictures was a 20GB update for fs2004.

    Current multispectral stuff is more than 300m? Interesting, it would miss entire steams, even rivers and stuff.

    I would really debate that nowdays while it may have been true in the past. I liked it better when it didnt work cause i messed up a jumper or setting somewhere.

    I find that 3/4 of the time i 'fix' a problem whether my computer or not, i dont know exactly how i fixed it nor how to prevent it. Heck 1/3 of the time turning it off and on solves it, hardly brain busting problem solving.

    (yes this assumes windows as i am sure the one study did too)

    I just fixed a problem with printing to my okidata printer by telling it i was gonna print to the laser instead. Why? Noone knew including tech suipport for program.

    Its certainly more valueable to ME than a half eaten sandwhich or some of the other stupid items worth absurd amounts, but apparently not to some others.

    Isn't it goldenpalace or someone spent 100k recently on even more worthless stuff.

    My 1980 stereo probably isnt worth $250 to many of you either for that matter. Nor is your 21" lcd monitor or $400 video card worth a fraction of what you paid to my parents. Heck, if anyone has an 8" floppy drive/disks for a Wang 2200 it has some value to me but is problably a liability to most :P

    Besides putting that 10k into circulation instead of in intel's bank account can't be that bad, sounds like they have plenty ;)

    I could come up with a million better ways to spend money than what companies spend money on. This would come in at 900,000 something.

    If you want intel specifically, i'll bet they have seven figures worth of art for decoration alone.

    No idea how the blurb relates to the link!

    Blurb talks about hashs and the link talks really nasty sounding stuff but nothing about hashes. I could not read the site linked by the article however.

    Destroying someones files is apparrently legal in finland?!? Wouldn't this be blatently illegal most anywhere else?

    It either 'destroys' someones files or it secretly hides a program that corrupts on export. Seems like a big as legal issue as they are trying to solve !!

    I can solve filesharing also as long as legalities aren't an issue :)
