Where I work there are 2 women in the IT department. There used to be 3, but the third left to take care of her newborn and focus on completing a Master's degree. I don't believe people should be encouraged to go into a career simply because there aren't a lot of there particular sex or race. Let the people that actually love this type of work get the jobs.
I wonder how many launch titles the PS3 will have that don't end with a number? (excluding games that have numbers as an integral part of the name, such as Warhammer40000).
...in China, why don't they just play with other Chinese gamers? I would actually prefer to play games with gamers from China, and other countries, myself. Too many attention starved kiddies, playing in the USA.
...at least one (economically/mentally poor) person will go on a water ride with their new electronic device in hand, and get electrocuted(hopefully), or shocked. They will then proceed to sue Disney for an out-of-court settlement. They will then use that settlement to sue Michael Jackson for another out-of-court settlement. In the end they will file for bankruptcy after spening all of their money on attorney's fees.
I'm honestly surprised Microsoft hasn't bought-out AOL yet. Every release of Windows since '95 has had the AOL installer included, and for those people that don't want the REAL internet, their choices have always been either: AOL or MSN. I find it very puzzling that they wouldn't buy out their main competitor?!? Every company does it! (Adobe/Macromedia, Oracle/Siebel, CompUSA/Computer City,...etc/etc...)
One of my favorite stores in the early '90s was a store that carried pen & paper RPGs, comic books, dice, miniatures, in addition to computer games. Diversity really is the key. There were times when I couldn't find any worthwhile games to buy, but would instead buy an RPG or a magazine that I would never have known about if this particular store hadn't carried them.
Doom
Doom II
Descent
Mechwarrior 2
Magic Carpet
Syndicate
That period of time was the greatest gaming period in my life. It was the era that got me into building my own computer, hauling my "steel beast" of a machine down to my friends house for LAN parties, and downloading tons of shareware and warez off the internet. Hmm, I guess since I didn't pay for most of the software I had back then, that could've caused problems for the companies, but damn if I wasn't having a blast!
"I also redesigned the Revolution's controller to look more like a regular TV remote, so anyone who saw it would know instantly how to use it, and so they wouldn't think they had to always stash it away."
It all makes since now. I understood the part about it being like a remote to provide a familiar control method for non/new-gamers, but the intention of making something people won't be ashamed of and hide away when not in use is pure genius. I have remotes lying all around, but stow gamepads away in a drawer, even though they're wireless.
Was anyone else's first thought after reading the newspost, of that game for the TRS-80 where you had to answer math questions to get the skier down the hill? Oh, how I miss those ASCII slopes!
Computer manufacturers are shipping some PCs with no PS/2 ports, USB only, so make sure you get some USB KVM's. I would also recommend putting customer machines on a seperate network than any employee's machines, either physically or virtually. Oh, and be sure to get a candy machine that takes dollar bills, or else the "exact change only" light is gonna be lit on your soda machine more often than not.
"I mean, you have many, many stab wounds and those 'Dungeons and Dragons' fantasy games involve swords and knives and daggers and things of that nature. There may be a connection but I can't say for sure."
The makers of D&D should sue the person that made that statement for slander.
My brother got kicked out of a mall in Utah because they didn't like his "punk" haircut. Guess they thought he was gonna murder someone or spit on the floor or something.
I always felt the commentary made that game much more enjoyable. However, since Powerball typically only had to focus on 1 ball, I imagine it was easier for someone to provide play-by-play commentary on that, versus a FPS deathmatch frag-fest. Even the automated frag/suicide messages in FPS games are hard to follow, and I can't think of what else someone would need to know besides who killed who?!?
I do "house-calls" for friends of my parents, and more often friends of the friends of my parents. What I charge is based on the difficulty of the fix. If all I need to do is install a driver, change a software setting, or clean-out some spyware, then I ask for $20(they usually pay me $40-$50 despite me only asking for $20). If it's something more time consuming like replacing a motherboard/HDD/FDD, then I ask for: "whatever you think my time was worth". Usually they don't like that response and grill me for a $ amount, so I then ask $40 if it took 1-2 hours, or $20/hr if it took several hours to complete(re-install of Windows + software; for example).
90% of the time though, I only ask for $20, and 100% of the time I get payed 2-5 times what I asked for. I'm actually just happy to have an excuse to get out of the house, and always happy to work on a computer no matter who owns it.
It's also fun getting to tell a parent how much pr0n/music/movies their child has illegaly downloaded onto the family machine(note to kids, setting the "hidden" attribute on a folder is pointless. The first thing I do is change folder views to show all hidden/system folders.)
I used the bus/lightrail system in San Jose to get to/from work until I bought my first car at the age of 25.
The difference?
Public transit = 1 hour 10 minutes each way
Driving my own car = 10 to 12 minutes each way

Did anybody else read the title as: "Gamestop to fill 360(three hundred and sixty) preorders by February".
Their business must really be hurting if it's going to take them that long to fill a few hundred preorders.

One of the first thing modded "back in the day".

Are any stores offering financing for this thing? There's no way in hell I can afford to hand over $700+ on a system and games, all at once!

You have obviously never tried to cancel a Paypal account. When you do, you'll understand.

I was wondering where Bargain Hunt went.
That's why.
