  1. Blue is cheaper on Ask Slashdot: The Search For the Ultimate Engineer's Pen · · Score: 1

The blue pens were $2 less, so I bought those instead. So far it only has a single 2-star review complaining of "skipping" when drawing a line, i'll post a review there myself after i've gotten mine.

  2. They've never gotten it right on Apple Delays Simpler and Cleaner iTunes 'to Get It Right' · · Score: 4, Insightful

Even when I had a Mac Mini and a MacBook, every upgrade to iTunes would have video playback issues until the library was deleted and re-created (backing up all your content before-hand of course). The same thing happened with the last 2 updates that were released 10.6.x and 10.7. The last 10.6.x update caused a slight drop in framerate and 10.7 caused a massive drop in frame rate on high end systems and crashed iTunes on low-end systems. It took a deleteion of the library file to get it working again. Given they're past failure to fix this issue over the last 6 years, I have no hopes of them fixing it with 11.

  3. Awful on Slashdot Launches Re-Design · · Score: 1

Looks like crap. Go back to the v1.0 interface. There is way too much wasted space in this design. It's like the IGN Boards redesign. If it stays this way I will be abandoning /. the same way I abandoned IGN.

  4. USAA has been doing this for years on Deposit Checks To Your Bank By Taking a Photo · · Score: 5, Informative

USAA has offered "Deposit@Home" for years. Instead of taking a photo you can just scan the check and upload it. The only problem is they require you to have a credit card with them as well to qualify for the service. Hopefully, if other banks offer this service for free than USAA will change that policy. I hate having to mail in checks and sit around for two weeks waiting for them to deposit it.

I wonder how secure the database is? Why not just hack into their servers and steal their database, then you'd have thousands of potential dates in every state to hit on, and since you know they're desperate (having submitted their info to one of the sites) you're chances are greatly improved. You could even call them pretending to be from the company and tell them you've found a perfect match for them, then set yourself up on dates with them! When you're all done, you could then sell the whole database to some other sleazy marketing company.

I second this. I first read it in the 4th grade, and then again in Middle School and High School. One of the greatest books ever written.

There isn't much else in the way of Sci-Fi that I would recommend. Most of the other books I had around that age were basic programming books. ^_^

with the Atari 2600. Even as a child I played Atari 2600 games with my thumb on the top of the stick, and it didn't take long before a smaller pad was released. The controller I am referring to was black and had a red stick that was part of a dome shaped piece of plastic, and had red buttons on both side of the controller. Does anyone else remember these? They had an egg like shape and were extremely easy to hold in one hand and control the stick with your thumb.

  10. Boob-jobs, hooray on Sony Develops Fluid-Filled Bags For Hard Disks · · Score: 1

They should mount dual drives inside these breast implants, on the palm rests to give our sore wrists somewhere pleasureful to rest. The Japanese, as usual, are already far ahead of us in this field of ergonomics with their boobie mouse pads.

  14. Finger printing is normal on How Far Should a Job Screening Go? · · Score: 1

Every school district I have ever worked for required fingerprinting, not because of interaction with children, but because I would have access to everyones personal data (social security number, birth certificates, etc...). It's perfectly normal for any place that cares about the security of customer data to request fingerprints be on record with the local sheriff's office, and a thorough background check be done.

  15. Works better on a Mac already on Help Make Firefox On Mac Suck Less · · Score: 1

Firefox works better on a Mac for me, than it does on Windows XP. That's probably due to Java working better on the Mac than in XP. There are several websites I goto that work perfectly in Firefox on my Mac, but fail to load images, text and other elements in Firefox on XP. Performance is fast enough that I don't notice it, and the only thing that bothers me about the toolbar is that it's too easy to hit the drop-down on the back button then the back button itself.

I'm currently running into that abundancy issue with my GamezNFlix.com subscription. I've got 2 Xbox 360 games out, and haven't touched them in over 3 weeks.
