Any science that you or the Union of Concerned Scientists disagree with is considered "distorted" science. Perhaps you and this group of overzealous egocentric scientists need to realize that science is not one dimensional, and that there are opposing viewpoints and opposing research in most scientific hot topics. You and the Union also fail to realize that you are the ones distorting science when you purport embryonic stem cells to be the savior of mankind, and completely dismiss adult stem cell research, which has already produced significant and numerous clinical treatments. Not a single treatment has come out from embryonic stem cell research. Next time, instead of focusing on the speck in my eye, you should look at the plank in your own.

I was talking specifically about the Mac cards and those interfaces. Graphics cards for a while on the mac supported ADC and VGA only. No DVI. So if he had purchased an ADC LCD from Apple, his new card wouldn't be able to work because he would need an adapter which also provides energy for the display (one of the features of the ADC interface). I didn't want him to be left out of a nice LCD because his new video card wouldn't support it.

It sucks. Badly. You will not be able to run Doom 3 worth anything. I highly recommend that you get a Geforce 6800 series card. The cheapest of that bunch is $300 but definitely worth it. Do you have an ADC display? These new graphics cards support DVI only.

It's impossible for a farmer to build a barrier to stop unwanted seeds from falling in.

If you had any experience with farming GM crops, you would understand that farmers plant the GM crops within a buffer zone of non-GM crops so that if any cross-pollination occurs, it happens only in the farmland of the farmer who buys the GM seed. At harvest time, the buffer crops are destroyed. Also, the contract you sign with Monsanto is only valid if the patented crops stay on your land. If any genetically-modified genetic material is found on your non-GM neighbor's crops, your contract is revoked and you can be subject to lawsuit.

Cross-pollination is a serious issue, but there are safeguards to prevent those problems.

Are you sure you are still watching it? Leo Laporte ended his gig as regular host in late March (as reported on Slashdot [slashdot.org]) and he left TechTV altogether in early April.

I have not been able to catch TSS while in school. When I come home, I only watched TSS and X-Play on TechTV. I was aware that Leo had some issues with the parent company and he was put on hold for a while. It didn't really concern me and they actually got him back for a while because they fixed the problems they had with each other. But now that TechTV was bought by Comcast and it seems that they cut out Leo permanently, there is no reason for me to watch anymore (when I'm home, that is. ;-) ).

No kidding. I can't believe I bought such an incredibly slow mother board for my new processor. I bought it because it was by Asus and it was only $45.

I don't think the capacitor problem has to do with heat. I just think that the speed of the processor is too great for such an old mobo. The recommended range for the board is 1.4ghz-2.4ghz. I'm on the high end of that spectrum unfortunately. I hear the caps going all the time when there is any load on the processor. I don't know if you would be able to crack encryptions with that. It's certainly worth a try.

Hearing my capacitors buzzing and sinking when the processor is under full load is comforting because I can tell if there is some kind of process hogging my load. Unfortunately, it is extremely annoying after a while, but I don't want to spend the money to get a new motherboard. :(

They are comparing the latest nVidia GPU to the 9800XT, which is several months old. When ATI's next-gen chip comes out (two weeks?), only then will we be able to see who holds the GPU Speed crown.

I don't think so. The first ATi card to be released will be a 12x1 pipe version while the first nVidia card will be a 16x1 pipe version. ATi seriously underestimated what nVidia was planning as they moved the production schedule of their 16x1 pipe version 5 months ahead of schedule. ATi was scared s***less and for good reason as we found out today.

I am really quite impressed with the performance of the 6800. Across the board, the 6800 is nearly twice the performance of the current top of the line cards. Going from 4x2 pipes to 16x1 was definitely worth it for nVidia, as their shading performance is simply astounding! Halo actually runs incredibly well on the 6800, getting 2x-3x current performance.

Now, as DooM 3 is supposedly being released with the 6800, can we expect DooM in mid-may? This is truly an incredible day for PC gaming as we will have cinematic computing in the near future.
