Marathon was a DOOM contempary, But it had dynamic lighting, and multiple network play modes such as. Kill the man with the ball, king of the hill, rocket arena, multiple team types all years before anything like it was out on the PC. Hopefully some day this game will get the respect it deserves in pre-dateing so many features found on later PC FPS's.

So what if you can get a 3d engine running on UO... it is still the first generation of MMORPG's everyone else has improved upon the recipe. WOW is destroying EQII right now becuase they looked back at all the mistakes that everyone else made and improved, not being tied to old ways of doing things. UO is dead face it the days are numbered. But assuming they have 100,000 people on line at 5 dollars a month that is half a million dollars a month... I think UO may be around longer then you think it will, it is still profitable for them to keep it up even if they no longer truly support it.

  5. Your right, others are on Crack but here are ideas on Really Stylish PCs and Peripherals · · Score: 3, Interesting

First you where looking for good quality peripharals... You seem to have the small form factor case down. I am a littel leary of the Nanode, since the specs are a little vague and it runs on a VIA cpu.

Today most computer parts are no longer beige, it seems that build quality has gone down. Mitsuko which is generally considred low end becuase of the price, but they make a good keyboard available in a variety of colors, and for mice Alienware has all the microsoft high end mice in custom colors. You pay a little bit for it but they match the mitsuko keyboards in color.

As for cases most cases look like cheap plastic junk now. I've been using a server size chenming that is similar to the original alienware. Not flashy not cheap looking, but has the size I need to run all my drives, as well as clean lines.

Another option is just to check out www.newegg.com and see what is offered they have a large selection, with pictures of every item, as well as a good search engine, and search engine interface.

  9. Gamespy.com on Is There Something Wrong with Video Game Reviews? · · Score: 1

I tend to like teh reviews at gamespy, they seem to be fairly unbiased, and truthfull outside of marketing hype. At least in teh past, they got bought by IGN and the reviews are starting to look more like IGN hype drivel. Gamespy as far as I know was the only reviewer that said wait Halo is great but here are the problems. While everyone else was trying to clean the sticky stuff off of thier hands, while gushing that it was the best game ever. Gamespy also waits at least a week to review MMORPG's to give a more fair unbaised look at the game. Very rarely do I disagree with them. Sure sometimes I question a reviewer who complains about the online component being missing (HL2 reviews anyone) but just read with a critical eye... just my opinion...

And they appear to be making a film also at the same time. http://digi-guys.com/ is the parent site, and it is even more sketchy. The appear to be a 3d animation firm, that has not done any work, but they seem to have alot of toys and are very well funded judgeing from there gallery and facilities page. I will give them this though, they have some talented modelers and animatators working for them. Verdict not an x-box2 game. All the above info that doesn't state platform, and the fact that according to what was leaked about the next gen x-box how can you be developeing for the x-box2 when the specs are not even hammered down yet

  23. Hmm a little pre-emptive for Sony.. on PS3 To Use Blu-Ray Technology · · Score: 1

    I work for a DVD/CD duplication firm

It seems a little pre-emptive for Sony to make this decision right now. Currently the next optical media standard is in flux. The 2 competing formats are Blu-ray Disc (BD) and High Def-DVD (HD.) This may be just a marketing ploy as the 2 standards are competing. They both offer pros and cons, and are very similar. They are currently not compatible, and need to be manafactured using completely different processes. Both formats are also striving ot be able to read existing DVDs to provide backwards compatiblity. Also both formats should in theory share the same form factor as current DVD's

    HD 15gb
Less prone to read errors due to scratches
HD can be made on the same type of equipment as DVD with minor modifications
    Copy protection built into standard

    BD
    23gb
    In theory faster read/writes 36mbps
May need a caddy or hard coating

So it looks like cost vs size is the problem. Currently both groups are working together, but neither standard is final in any means. If you look at who is backing both formats. BD
    DEll
    HP
    Hitachi
    LG
    Matsushita
    Mitsubishi
    Pioneer
    Philips
    Samsung
    Sharp
    Sony
    Tdk
    Thomson

    VS

    HD
Toshiba, NEC and the DVD forum

I think that sony is just throwing it out considering the standard is not set, a a marketing ploy trying to help their supported standard have more legitimacy. Remeber that DVD was a combo of the Sony-Philips MMCD and the Time-Warner Toshiba SD. Hopefully a beta-VCR or dueling 56k standard problem will not happen this time around.

DiabloII also close to 4 years old is still very highly played. Starcraft close to 6 years now is the biggest game in Korea, so popular that tournaments are televised.

Games for which stats are not available. Supermario Bros the oringinal NES game is still alot of fun to play. And back to the atari 2600 days Combat is still alot of fun to play with a friend with all the different styles of play available by just changing some simple rules.

Judgeing from all the internet talk you would think that Duke Nuke em forever is a hugely popular game over the past 4 years
