So wtf exactly does Vista do for you as a gamer? Well, we met with Microsoft's Chris Donahue at E3 to learn more about it. The first and most important reason to upgrade would be to get access to Direct X 10. Will you be able to run DX10 now on XP? Nope. It's not backwards compatable with older operating systems. We also chatted a bit with Epic's Mark Rein who said that you would get upwards of a 30% performance increase playing games with Vista since the OS better manages resources. Other cool Vista features include a true 3D desktop, a more streamlined UI (i.e. - user friendly towards non-gamers), and as we learned last week, you can play on Live! against Xbox gamers.
You shouldn't worry about it. We 're talking Nintendo, who currently provides online gaming over the Internet for free (And used by millons). Expect no more than a few bucks per title and maybe some games for free.
The name will still be Revolution in the states, Wii it's just some brillant marketing idea to overload blogs and sites like this. Wait until E3 and you will see... Also, The DVD peripherical will be similar in size and shape to the broadband adapter for Gamecube, it will be connected under the unit and the included remote will be using tech similar to Wavebird. It will cost around $30
The unit is a prototype and a distributor is need, so don't expect it any time soon...

Speaking of abandonware, there is also the option of taking the old DOS game and optimize it for current hardware and OS:
On April 14th 2006, a Windows XP/ME/2000/98 version of Another World, with high-resolution support and more detailed background graphics, was released as a tribute to the original game on the Another World website. The port is shareware; to unlock the full version, a special key must be bought from here for 7 euros.
I know the screen it's small but believe me, it has enough resolution to play videos. I have a Rockbox on my nano and Doom really looks great, even better that the GBA version. Also the included 3d screensavers like "plasma" and "fire" are neat. I wish Apple includes video support in an upcoming software upgrade.
But how about *integrated* HD-DVD player and a smaller power supply, all for the same $400? That would be some update!
Wishlist: Games I'm looking forward to play in DS

A DS In Every Pot

Some games I'd love to play in DS:
A Quake Port
We had Doom and Doom II for GBA, it's time to bring Quake or even Quake II to the DS. After the success of Metroid Hunters can you imagine Quake on the go? that would kick ass!
A Blizzard RTS port
Warcraft II or, if possible, Starcraft would be awesome to make full use of the systems integrated Touchscreen and Wifi
I installed rockbox in my 1gb nano yesterday and I am amazed with the cool features it has:
_ You can dual boot Rockbox and apple firmware, so you can use those two anytime you want.
_ It has full PC Doom, which runs and looks great (better than the gba version) and plays decent
_ It has 3d screensavers that will leave you breathless, like plasma and fire.
_ It has EQ and extra sound options. Music really sounds better with it.
_ The defaul theme is ugly but the nano skins are beautiful!
check them: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WpsIpod Nano
I'm currently using iPod Vision Nano
_ You can use it as an standard USB flash drive WITHOUT installing drivers in Windows XP.
_ Tons of extra games, like tetris, a real arkanoid, pacman, puzzle-bubble and more. Even gameboy emulator
_ Installation took me 5 minutes and it's bulletproof. there is no way you can brick your Ipod AFAIK.
_ Cooming soon you will be able to watch videos on nano!
If everything is tested correctly it shouldn't be a problem. Hotels usually have an open WIFI connection (no wep) that gives you a private IP but doesn't allow you to surf the net until you login via their local web page using a prepaid card or something.
NDS should first connect to the hotspot and then open the login web page.
The only problems may be login time-outs and pop-ups. Some PDAs have this problem.
The problem with UMD is that only the PSP can play them, so you can't watch the movie in your tv, in your pc or in a friend's place. I mean, how many times are you gonna play the same UMD movie you just bought? 2 times max? Most people who got the free Spider-man 2 UMD that came with the system a while ago only played the movie once, and most didn't even watched it completely. Also, upcoming Video Ipod with widescreen and Tv out will finish UMD for good.

Now we know what gadget Jack Bauer will be using next season.

Same with Star Wars Republic Commando
ARQuake Project is really cool.
Let's hope some day a device like this is released for sale.
I readed the article and they don't seem to blame piracy about their loses...

"This isn't a badass 'Halo killer." The real Halo Killer was Metroid Prime for Gamecube
Are you still on 28.8k Dial-up?

Ok we got an overpriced player... Does at least come with a HD-DVD demo or something to showcast? Any killer HD-DVD movie release available right now?
I currently have a 1GB Ipod Nano which I paid $150 for it.
Please name a single 1GB mp3 player that it's better than Nano and also cheaper.
I miss the days when "Backwards compatibility" were a hardware feature and not some kind of emulation that requires constant Internet updates...

How long until "Ipod volume limit remover" is released so kids can crack their Ipods?
If you find $30 for a DS game expensive wait until you see the price of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for PSP...
LG LDA-511 supports upscaling 720p/1080i via component cable.
I would pay up to $35 (like a game) but not more. Let's hope the browser is not crippled and support secure pages and some kind of web based IM.
With decent portable dvd players available as low as $100 that can play THE DVDS YOU ALREADY OWN + avis I just don't see why Sony insist with UMD.
