It's good to see Godaddy doing so well, I just hope they don't forget where they came from. One issue being the ease of which they take domains if you get spam complaints, I've known people who have lost hundreds from suspended domains when a business rival reported them to godaddy
If they got a bulletproof way of dealing with issues like this, I would definetley consider transferring a lot more of my domains to be managed with them. Congratulations Godaddy.
It seems like the anti's aren't doing themselves much good at the moment, when events like this hit the news, the block lists just loose credit in people's minds
As much as anyone hates AOL and finds this funny, it is more the entire anti spam community in general, than AOL in the short term.
The interesting thing however... Some time ago, someone i know in the adult industry suggested making some adult games for GBA (Game Boy Advance). He was a professional system programmer and he knew well the GBA architecture. However, when he suggested this at an adult industry event, full of huge companies, the people there told him "NO-NO!"
The GBA is PRIMARY intended for kids, so Nintendo will never allow him to issue such a game... So Here is a question: isn't PSP also PRIMARY intended for kids? (Yes, a certain demographic of adults would have them, quite a large demographic, but 'primarily'
I was at the UK equivalent of this a few months back, definetely a great event to attend, and some really bright kids there who know their stuff.
I think they should do a scientific study to prove that kids who play with lego when they are young grow up able to apply knowledge better than kids who, say, play with Action Man all day. Lego is great stimulation for the mind. Just a theory.
the MPAA breaking the law to enforce the law. oh the irony.
People have been saying for years that the MPAA need to try harder to stop piracy before the movies get leaked. Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. Maybe it's time they started listening.
Online advertising is coming back in, companies were still afraid of the internet due to the "dotcom bust" a few years ago. This can also be seen if you analyse the domain name market, prices have been rising steadily for the last year, and record prices are being reached
People are starting to realise the profitability of the internet, again.
"Shares of Electronics Boutique rose even higher -- up $14.42 or 35.1 percent, to $55.54 -- in trading Monday morning on the Nasdaq Stock Market."
Judging on the current volatility in the games market, some people would decide to sell any stock they own at this point. It would probably be worth remembering about the PS3 and Xbox2 being just around the corner. This buyout will create a company definitely worth watching.
I guess this won't help the generation who are growing up using their thumbs as fingers due to mobile phones.
It's good to see Microsoft being innovative towards something they had previously not been, It's always good to see original ideas going into practice, and new ways to operate products.
It's not really surprising, Valve developed Half Life 2 with modders in mind, the knew how the Mod Community helped make Half Life the huge success it was.
By opening the game up for easy modification, they increase the lifespan of their product, and it also allows them to fish for new talented staff from the fans who create the mods. Good going valve, and more importantly, good going to the mod creators.
as good as these kind of devices get, I can't help but wonder if a sub-notebook would be a better choice in terms of flexibility, I know for sure i'd rather take my ibook complete with it's software bundle rather than try to play with one of these kinds of devices and potentially lose photos.
I can't see how this would work, the developers of the 'spyware' are already evolving their products to be classed as adware and stuff, the know the government is on to them and are getting out of the way
It will be like closing one door but opening a window.
Not really surprising, the owners of google come from Stanford, Now they have made google the huge success they wanted it to be, they can move onto other things they want to approach.
It will be interesting to see what else these guys can come up with in the coming years
Ironic, how the industry turns to one of the tools their were claiming ruins it.
It's a smart move by the movie business, they are expanding into the online market, better late than never. They just need a way to make sure to stop piracy, as shown with the iTunes mp3 encoding.
people may bash EA, and maybe rightly so, but you have to hand it to them. They cornered the market on 'Street Racing' games with the new Need For Speed Undergrounds, and anything they can't get market control of, they buy exclusive rights to.
Some very smart businessmen there, shame it means the consumer doesn't always get the best
"They realise if you are clever at something then you should use it to earn a living. They are hacking to get rich and uniting over networks."
The article doesn't seem to say what exactly they are doing to get rich, it mentions DDOSing gambling sites, but no money making schemes used by them.
It would be doubtful for companies to hire russians who hacked their systems to fix them (kimbel, anyone?) when there already are so many companies in the computer security business
its know well on adult webmaster communities that if a.xxx was introduced, it would just produce clones of.com and.net names using affiliate codes or copies.
The proposed act to force adult sites to use.xxx would create a mass rush, and mean people losing domains they rightfully should own
If Microsoft are going to have a team to check over every piece of data entered/edited, didn't they do their research?
Wikipedia works so well because of the volume of information that is changed, and that is changed in real time. Microsoft would need a HUGE team, or have to outsource, and although an outsourced encyclopedia would prove comedic, it wouldn't be useful.
The tighter the grip using passports the greater the likeihood they'll get the people to eventually accept a National Identity Card so everywhere you go even inside the US can be tracked.
It just shows another clear example of the governments agenda for the future and its all about tracking obviously.
Another invasive thing now they want to be able to use the black boxes in people's car for insurance data purposes in legal cases. Most people aren't even aware that new cars have these devices built in and are recording everything.
I think this is wrong. This person purchased a domain name that is the company name and used it to slam a company (or hospital, whatever). Free speech is the right to take out an ad in the newspaper, not use a domain name that can be confused for an offical company website.
In other words, I have every right to purhcase "microsoftsucks" but not something like "microsoftware.com". The big difference is that the second domain can be confused for a official company website.
the most interesting thing he's done recently in my opinion was hacking the VC-1 codec from SMPTE into VLC. Something that provides real hope for linux and mac users trying to view WMV9 encoded video content
not to belittle the rest of his accomplishments, but I feel this one has the greatest possible advantage in legitimate terms
As with all news of this kinda thing, it's good news for the surfers and potentially bad news for the ad companies. It's too easy to forget sometimes that some sites rely on ads to stay afloat.
How many people are going to keep blocking ads until one of their site goes down from costs, then will they realise?

I feel obliged to take this space before a reply with a "freepsps.com" referral code comes and grabs it ;)

It's a shame to see this happen, It reminds me of the N64 expansion pak, where you NEEDED to upgrade to play certain games (like Perfect Dark)
Hopefully there won't be any "HD model only" type games which can only be used on the higher model. It would annoy a lot of customers

it seems like these few months will be the last surge before a drop leading up to the release of the new generation consoles
Of course the PSP sales will stay steady when the PS2 and Xbox sales start dropping to make way for the new releases.

Seems like TiVo are working on keeping ahead of the cable providers who are chasing them down on their market.
If they can keep working on new things to make TiVo more desirable to the consumer, purchases like this will pay off in the long run.
