All these developments for the PSP within the first month of it being released will definetley increase the market share for the PSP in the battle in sales against the DS
When you think about how much has been done in the first month, It's exciting to think about what people will develop for it given some time. Kudos to the developers of this.
It seems the companies are finally realising that there is a difference between the p2p software, and the people who distrubute illegal material via it
It's like trying to close a road because some people are speeding. Good move by MGM here
It seems to have worked for some 'indie' bands recently, using viral marketing - offering demos or live versions of their songs via p2p, or even the full song to get publicity
After they get a name for themselves with fans who download music to check out new stuff, they make an effort to get signed, the problem here being the production of new material if they used their best to get a name for themselves online
I don't think the internet would ever top the playing in bars to get your name out, but if mixed with services such as download.com - while sharing live or demo versions on p2p, you could build yourselves a name quickly. A lot of things would also depend on the type of record label who would sign you, the 'indie' kind who give out songs online for promotion, or the big labels who try to stop download and have huge budgets for promotion
It seems the PSP is not the only handheld that is being developed on now, this is great news for nintendo fans, as the buzz about the psp "web browser" and other modifications had the posibility to increase market share dramatically for the psp
If stuff like this comes out for the DS, it will put both the consoles on a more even playing field for sales, and therefore neither will be favoured by games producers as much.
come on you guys, don't troll them for having a bit of fun. Google and Yahoo! do it - with google slurp and yahoo slacker
It's also a pretty funny story if you read it through, at least some people still have senses of humour
the typical stereotype

Spam Kings
·
· Score: 3, Insightful
They are playing on the stereotype that all spammers live extremely well off their activities, although this may have been true up until recently, and there are still people making huge amounts of money from it - the reason phising and stuff is becoming more common is because the profits from spam are becoming lower
You can't just pick up a mailing software, buy a list and sit back and watch the money roll in anymore, so the new kids wanting to be millionaires have to result to more devious tactics
Let's hope this book realises that. Either way it should be a great read on the huge industry that is/was spamming.
Let's hope for the day they can add "Firefox usage overtakes IE usage" to that page. Although it may not be perfect, Firefox (pheonix, firebird etc) has been revolutionary - and I believe it has generally increase people's awareness about the web.
Well done to all the developers involved in the developement. Keep up the good work.
As the price decreases, and more hacks are found in the software, the PSP will gradually spread. It currently has the teething problems of any new console - not enough games, price too high, competition from other consoles (in this case the DS)
this is great news for the open source database community, but i can't help but wonder if we shouldn't be more interested in PostGreSql instead, given it's more open license terms
MySql a.b. have previously shown their willingness to change their license terms and this has manifested itself in issues with projects like PHP who notably have changed to pushing SQLite more heavily with PHP5.
I know some webmasters have expressed their discomfort with Google's conversion tracking because Google gets a rough estimate on the ROI from Adwords campaigns. I wonder if they will have access to the data Urchin collects. If so this could put Google in control of some extraordinarly valuable data.
AOL are also well known to chase spammers into the ground, and now that the spammers know that big companies are onto them, they are changing their ways and using different methods
SPIM (im spam), exploiting google via cloaking, SMS spam and phishing are some of the ways the current spammers are 'diversifying'
at least at my university, it seems as if apple have changed their image. No longer for graphic designers - it's for people who wanna 'get stuff done' with their computers
Also, their laptops are pretty much class dominant, and compare favourably on price with the high-end thinkpads in the powerbook range.
They seem to be lumping together the technology used to produce P2P software, and the businesses that use P2P to make profit
This will enable them to make a stronger case in their basic "p2p is bad" argument, when it's not the way it should be. Hopefully they will view the two things differently
By polling their own users, IGN are more likely to get hardcore gamer results rather than the average gamer, therefore it can't really be counted as a study
A better study would maybe be a questionaire inside Gran Turismo 4 or another game that will be widely sold , so it would not be affected as much by gender, genre liking, age etc.
Applications that have been produced already will really increase the marketability of the PSP in the following months, and this is just the beginning.
I think by making it exploitable, sony have increased their market demographic hugely
"PSP Video 9 is a free PSP video conversion and management application. It can convert regular PC video files (avi, mpeg, etc) into PSP video files, as well as manage/copy these PSP video files between your PC and PSP."
The market for the PSP could get a lot larger if the software keeps coming at this rate
Retroactively chasing patents has been proven to not work. I doubt the 3D games industry will be challenged by this
Google for "acacia", they tried claiming a patent on streaming video and eventually failed, in a judges ruling which basically said that patent chasing can not be done.
Hopefully these moneygrabbers will be shot down ASAP

That house must just be like a giant microwave

Squeakland.org seems to be slashdotted already for me. Anyone got a mirror, or is it just on my end ?

Maybe SCO will think they own the rights to linux
oh wait
they knew there would be a high enough percentage of people not bothered to mail in the rebate, so the advertising was far more profitable
Good riddance, I say. Mail in rebates were just a way for them to mislead in advertisements
Steve job's salary for the first 10 points. $10!
Pretty nifty april fools

It's all well and good until the Blue Screen and you can't move your arms

I'd say give it time to grow.

This all seems to vague to work, a box that could be exploitable reporting "evil" acts to others, there's something missing here
I can't see this working unless they make it more secure, and define what "evil" is

The new expansion pack will come with these maps bundled, and whatever new maps they produce espiecally for it.
