It seems as if they were using advertising via sprites or via player sprays, which does seem to not be as legitimate as the company trying to do the advertising claim. If it is what I predicted, valve may have a hard time trying to get them in court but eventually they should go down. Don't play in other people's backyards, you will only get kicked out, especially thanks to Steam nowdays.
The PS3 will need to have an extremely strong launch lineup without any delays to ensure that people buy it for that kind of money, that or they could just take the easy way out and release it at christmas, when people will buy it anyway for the kids.
It's good to see developers taking the time to explain stuff like this, kinda like the dude who made de_dust writing in depth about it's construction on his blog. It gives you a more indepth view into the world of game designers and what they create.
This product has so many better uses that military, but if it is proved effective I bet no one else will ever see it. Why is it that some of the best inventions for saving lives end up being used to to take them, I guess that is just human nature, what a shame.
This looks like the only solution they could come up with to raise the least problems with people who have already purchased Xbox 360's. This way they can claim that it is external but start producing standard consoles which take HD-DVD and eventually move all the games onto that platform. A very shady move there if what I predict happens.
Well with Starcraft in Korea being huge enough to almost become their national 'sport' I'd say there is a good market in televised game tournaments, I for one wouldn't mind watching a well played tournament of Counter-Strike or other stuff and I'm sure many other enthusiastic gamers wouldn't and I could see it becoming quite popular.
It's good to still see Nintendo doing well after chasing the audience of gamers they want instead of the broadest market possible, perhaps this will point to a more fun generation of games from them focusing on the user experience rather than trying to keep up with Sony and MS
Microsoft knows that online gaming can make them recurring revenue and it is a way to keep the user always updated with the latest software and the easiest way to upsell them new stuff, granted that not everyone wants to play online but that is why Microsoft are pushing it so hard, if they can get enough people to do it, it will be very profitable.
They will fail again and the primary reason being for this is the fact that there is already ratings on the games, supervision of kids is the key to this, not banning kids from buying games. Why do parent's complain when their kids go looking for porn on the net and find some? why was the parent not supervising what they were doing. Why do parent's complain about kids watching violence on tv? same thing, why where they not supervise. It seems the parents are lazy and want the government to do their job for them.
This should do a lot of good for the lagging 360 sales in Japan, apparently a lot of people put off buying one because of the lack of games. The main game they wanted at launch that wasn't available was DOA4. Microsoft will be glad to see it finally hitting the shelves.
The adult websites statistic should give you a view that this survey was not very accurate, but it's interesting to see women taking more of a view in the internet nowdays compared to a few years back (even if the numbers are exaggerated). You can't help but wonder wether this will change the marketing approach of some online businesses as they adapt to the growing number of females that they can sell to.
It's good to see them recognising the restrictions of the mobile platform and working around them compared to creating a sub-par quality game that follows the original goal of Doom, three cheers to the developers for having an open mind.
Good to see that there are some people left with common sense around, it's the same thing with the internet. People complain about what their kids are going on, but no one ever questions why they freely let their children browse the web without supervision, or let them play games without supervision.
Seeing as Sony have bought the main stand for CES2006 which starts on January 5th, so it's pretty blatant that they are going to be releasing details on the PS3. If I was microsoft I'd be trying as hard as I could to get 360's on shelves before then, because as soon as people know when that console is coming (if it is anytime soon) microsoft will immeadiately start losing customers, people will either say "i'll wait for the ps3" or "i'll wait and see which is better"
It's good to see developers taking their own decisions, games that allow your actions to chose the endings are some of the best. It makes it a lot more interesting when a decision you make early on in the game effects it a lot later on and means that the game has a lot more appeal to replay it through a couple of times finding the different endings and more.
They don't really have the best launch lineup, it's just that they have games from other platform's popular games available for it. The playstation 1 had no predecessors and therefore it couldn't launch with games from other platforms, like one of the main Xbox360 launch games being Need For Speed : Most Wanted which is out on tons of others.
I think they have to compare it in context, as in which games are exclusive for the xbox360 on launch.
It seems like a lot of the huge game developers now take many years to make their games, and due to the decline in the market and the cost of making games a lot of the smaller companies are going for consoles or just not huge blockbuster games. It's sort of like the film market, where there can be quite a lull for a while before many different studios release their brand new biggest titles that have taken tons of development time.
Seems like this is just publicity, it worked for the Lindsey Lohan apparent 'breast reduction' in Herbie and they are trying it again here. Simple concept really, create a bit of naughty controversy over the size of main actor/actresses' breast/penis size and watch the film hype itself before it even hits theaters.
Good to see him finally get the credit for his invention, it just goes to show that no matter how big a company is they can try and do devious stuff, like the current case of EMI not paying the Beatles their correct royalties. It just goes to show how the world is nowdays, where even the biggest of corporations are out to make a quick buck and screw over other people. Hopefully this win will remind them that eventually they will fail.
It's a shame that there is no real plan and there is not much business sense in it, as both of those companies have produced some awesome stuff. All I can say is that I wish them the best of luck in succeeding
Why is this news to some people? I can't see any reason to not expect this. As long as the curiousity is there, and there is a market for pirate (cheaper) games there will always be people willing to crack the console, and the earlier they can do it the more money (or fun, depending on their reasons for doing it) they can have/make.
Microsoft can write all the protection they want into their consoles in the time they develop them, but at the end of the day as soon as it changes hands.. someone has 24 hours a day all day to do what they like to try and crack it. Unlike a salaried coder at MS, they probably have a lot more motivation to do it as well. Just a thought.
I can see there being huge money in this for the first adult publication company to make moving porn magazines, or moving porn images on paper. The hype alone would eat up the initial cost in sales, and they could build up a huge brand on being the only one to offer it.
The adult industry was the original driving force behind the internet progressing, so who knows what will happen next. If theres money in it, you can guarantee that the big adult companies will come knocking on the door after a while.
Google are doing whatever they want to in order to make a profit, even if that means messing around with the price per click like this. There is a reason that they are number one in the market place right now and by being in this position it enables them to set the prices they want to charge, it maybe not be ethical but it is profitable and that is all that matters in today's world of e-commerce. With businesses such as spyware and spamming still being huge
Seems like they didn't want to infringe on the Master Chief 'brand' by putting him in another SPARTAN (pretty much indentical) to please fans, why not just let team ninja used the Master Chief?
I must say though, the halo fighting level does look very well done and sharp.
People like the RIAA are going to fight the internet as a distribution method to the hilt, and many other people will join them, because as it becomes more popular they will start losing their market. If I can buy a whole CD online and be listening to it in seconds, instead of going out and picking it up, I know which one I'd rather be doing, and it's the one that most people would.
Of course, the RIAA and other companies hate this because it means they can't control distrubution and it gives all artists an even playing board. Record companies aren't going to like it much either, when bands can sell their own music directly to a huge market without having to go through their process, and therefore cutting them out.
I can't see a lot of the companies involved going down without a fight, because it is big business. In regards to the music downloads falling, do they actually show comparison against CD sales for the same period? maybe it was a complete dip in the entire market.
It seems as if they were using advertising via sprites or via player sprays, which does seem to not be as legitimate as the company trying to do the advertising claim. Good job to the developers on this one.
