just make legallise some of those things that are illegal (like drugs, prostitution, copyright infringement) and then you will have legal businesses that you can tax and also remove the income sources to the criminals.
But no one in power wants to have an open society where the light of truth could be pointed any one by anyone.

Having actually just done a half day course on job application writing, it is surprising some of the things that I thought should go into a resume or job application have changed in the last 10 years since I last did one of these courses.
As for why I haven't been keeping these job hunting skills upto date is I don't have a career mindset, happy to climb the ladder at a slow sedate pace in the Australian public service.
Anyway, the point I wanted to raise was, that a resume and application both need to be targeted to the prospective employer you want to get the job at.
The sad thing is they dont have a volume discount, or have a special offer for buying the entire album. Or even all of an artists catalog for that matter.
Also I concur with the other statements about DRM being a waste of time/effort/money. All it does is inconvenience honest people, the dishonest will strip the DRM off and use as they wish.
Maybe the people who prefer to play single player games like to be the 'Hero' of the story, not some poor noob getting fragged every couple of seconds?
Each type of game has its merrits and flaws, so I guess the proof of how successful they are will be in the pudding when/if it sells.
If it were not a US only release it might be good, but I've given up trying to get any of the dancing games in australia because they never release any here. And I'm not going to get my ps2 modded just so I can import the US games.
I've gone instead with stepmania on the pc and used a decent usb to ps2 controller. And I don't have to wait for the 9th mix of DDR as there is a scene thats creating new mixes for download. Or if I get inspired I can make up my own from songs of my choosing.
I find it good fun (even though my friends make fun of my new obsession), having gotten my sister and her kids interested in it.

My hunch is that they females have been socialising and networking thus improving their social skills (at least here in Australia) as there are increasing numbers females in manager/politician/leadership roles.
Then again it could be all the boys are too busy chasing the digital black rainbow to compete effectively.
But I'm looking forward to racing games using this.
It could enable tires being worn out based upon how you drive, no more stupid signs/bushes stopping you dead when you hit them, maybe even Carmageddon will be redone with crowds of people flying through the air as you jump the curb and take a short cut through a mall?
This was a thought i was having a several days ago when this was previously brought up.
So got around to discussing this with some guys at work. And being the more curious, I asked "What is the patent system for then??",
The first thoughts being the protecting of the rights of the person who developed a product/idea, but this suggested to be a requirement of its primary purpose, which is to guarrantee that nothing is forgotten and it ends up in the community knowledge pool for future generations.
I don't think that the system is working for the community any more, just corporations and capitalistic ideals.
It reminds me of the Azimov short story "I always do what teddy tells me" (at least I think that was the title) where the child in the story gets their morals from their interaction with the teddy, but in the plot twist, the bit about killing people being wrong is removed from teddys programming.
I wouldn't have gotten one for my son if they had been around a couple of years ago.
What next? Playdough from "A dark night in toyland?" by Bob Shaw?
as when I visited the US, I tried to explain to someone that australia was setup as a penal colony, they thought I was talking dirty. Guess it was something about the accent that confused them:)
Also, got strange looks for saying yosemite like vegimite.:D

Just my left field opinion
I think you're after "spanking the monkey" - meaning self gratification.

I think that the term you might be after for your point 6a is mindshare.

But like villans they definately monologue!
When the subtitled version was shown here in Aus, I was lucky enough to see it.
I would concur that visually it is awesome, but the script/dialogue was not inspiried. Still worthwhile seeing IMHO.
