in this particular market.... Its pretty much just been Nintendo Gameboy in the mainstream... its good to see a name (Sony) that everyone is familiar with finally breaking into it. Hopefully this will cause pressure to reduce pricing of systems overall.
I believe the new system coming from Nintendo will have a similar number of launch titles. The pressure is on.
A slightly faded 60 year old printed photograph is of much greater value to your grand kids than that photo CD you burned that will most likely be totally unreadable in less than 10 years.. not to mention that CD drives as we know them will probabaly not exist then either. I suspect we'll have to copy our photos over to the next hot storage medium before the old ones wear out.

... for only a few minutes lastnight... Went by my local EB and it was nuts... then i saw that Toys R Us was open as well. They started selling them at 12:01, and by 12:03 I was out the door with Halo 2 in hand. It was a warm and fuzzy feeling.
probably didn't get enough hugs from his/her parents. If you can't pay attention to a human in front of you at a restaurant or whatever.. you most likely have ADD... i suggest you get some ritalin and put away your little script kiddie remote control.
The more people that know its actually been leaked, the more that will go out on the net seeking it. However, I don't feel that this leak will have a big impact on the games sales. It would be interesting to find out how many people actually have modded xboxes, and then on top of that... how many people would be happy with a 'french' version of the game. And of those people, how many will not care about gaming online.... i dunno, i think Halo 2's big selling feature was the Xbox live support. Lets wait and see.
who is dangerously addicted to Warcraft III battlenet games. He works shifts and when hes not working, hes playing the game... and swearing constantly, banging his fists on the desk and using the F word quite excessively. It scares me and my cat. When I've had enough, I log into the good ole Linksys and block ports 6112 through 6120 and the problem is solved for a little while. At this point he does something constructive, like laundry or cleaning his room. This a good solution for those who have control over their home networks.:)
obviously the IT person managing their information systems wasn't on top of the issue enough. If this person couldn't even handle something simple like keeping Windows systems 'virus free'... what makes you believe that they can quickly turn around a linux installation. Also, its quite likely that the place is running some custom applications for the business processes on top of windows... this would all have to be ported over to run in Linux. Plus training, Plus support, etc etc... the costs are too high for a situation where a 'quick fix' is needed. They may be able to look at Linux as a future option... but their most important task right now is to get what they had running back up and apply new policy that restricts how pcs are used on their network (use firefox, proper patching, AV software, etc).
I know some people that were growing up back then and played all the atari games, etc. A lot of those people are now not really what i would call computer-literate enough to figure out how all the emulators and such work on a PC... they want to play the games with no fuss.. something as simple as a new console or a disc for your ps2/xbox is great.
This is not a toy for everyone. The steep price will keep it in a mostly commerical market... salesmen, travelling scientists, comic book guy (maybe). As neat/compact as it is, for most people i think it would become a novelty after a while.
the attack will be tomorrow to throw everyone off... The one thing that makes a 'terrorist' attack such a big thing, is the element of surprise. If we all know its coming, we can prepare and arrange for counter attack efforts, which i am sure some security specialists had at least thought about yesterday/early today.
Do you think if people had a hint that 9/11 might happen, some people would err on the side of cauti.... oh wait
for travelling in areas where roads are washed out/destroyed/non existant. I think this may have more use by the military than the general public. Think of cruising across the desert, or over the jungle or whatever. I'm sure something like this could have practical uses in certain applications... i just don't see it happening for the average joe
They need to build the display into the headset if its going to work. I see other postings talking about having to strain your eyes to look at the screen when turning your head, etc. This is no good. I remember in 1994/1995 I was at this arcade that had virtual reality games... there were a few different ones... you stood up in this ring with a headset on... the headset had a display built in, when you looked to the left you still saw the screen... you could also see the other players walking around (Networked)... it was more of a virtual reality deathmatch. They need to get this sort of technology back. It seemed like there was so much hype back in the mid 90s, and then it sort of dissolved. Companies kept promising cool new VR products for the masses but nothing surfaced... people let go of the dream.
How cool people thought it was when that statue of Saddam came crumbling down in Iraq? To terrorists, the Statue of Liberty is 1000 times more significant. If you could just walk into the Statue of Liberty with a bomb in your backpack and take the whole thing out, you've just wrecked a symbol of freedom/democracy... which is the main goal of terrorists.
for Kiosks in Disney stores, Disney Land/World etc, maybe daycare centres. I expect that Disney would be bundling a suite of Disney related software titles etc. This is most definately targeting the 2-6 year old range. It may actually take off, its amazing how many people I know whos young childrens bedrooms have a Disney theme... adding a Disney PC would be the icing on the cake.
a good number of companies are using electronic storage systems for their incoming faxes these days. So instead of using up their paper and toner you're really just eating up space on a hard drive.
