Oh I didn't realise my name was copyrighted to me. Well considering my name is John Lynch, I have a bone to pick with a certain actor and a certain football player.
I'd go after my grandfather but I think he may have prior art in that case actually.
if people dont want ads, they buy pay-tv services.
Could that be anymore clueless? 1> You still get ads on the free-to-air channels regardless of whether or not you have cable. 2> All Foxtel channels have commercials.
Will Tivo in Australia work? I doubt it. But pay-tv is certainly NOT an alternative to get rid of commercials.
You actually see a scene where someone does vomit in it, but they quickly turn around or something like that. They didn't re-do the scene cause of the cost.
Most of the people posting here are unqualified simply because their American. Americans aren't adversely affected by these types of laws as THEIR playstation can play any game they want (most games are in NTSC format).
The people who this law does affect are adversely affected* are having our fair use rights infringed upon. I don't care that the majority of people use it for illegal purposes. Make the selling of copied games illegal, not the tool to use it. It's like banning blank videos. A lot of the use for them is to illegally copy videos.
A lot of people DO import copied games. We might be a minority, but I don't see why we should have our fair use trampled on when we have done nothing wrong. Punish those who commit the crimes.
* Fortunately I'm not a UKian, but if a similar law was brought out in Australia I would be as we use PAL.
They should be doing something more productive such as: reading educational books, socializing with other people, picking up a hobby such as wood carving, going out for hikes, bicycling, going out to vote, home improvement, researching investment opportunities, volunteer work in the community, etc.
Why?
The physical and mental benefits far outweigh watching television all day.
I've known people who have bought Windows XP (depsite there being many illegal copies) but installed a pirate copy of Adobe. This is because he was never ever going to buy Adobe. He'll buy some software, other software he'll get for free or do without.
This _is_ borne from experience.
Wow, what a great straw-man. Although there's one big difference.
2 Highschool students can't afford landscaping or flash. They won't pay for either, no matter what happens. They'll do without then buy.
They decide to steal both, after all, neither are physical objects.
They download Flash at no cost to the company that made it.
They have their yard landscaped at the cost of time and effort to the landscaper.
That's the difference. Flash will never ever gain any money from you, so you downloading it from SOMEONE ELSE doesn't hurt them at all. You weren't ever going to pay for it.
The landscaper does lose cost as HE has to put in the effort. If you don't get him to do it, he won't put in the effort. If you don't buy flash, they still have to develop it. Big difference.
This is modded is modded Interesting!? Who the fuck found him telling people to leave their country because HIS countrie's stores are screwing them over interesting? This problem is because of American stores. Yet people living in Bulgaria should the fix the problem. Riiiiiiiight.
This will be modded a troll and considering the people who modded the parent I think I'm glad.
Everytime I see something like this everyone says "oh they're just looking for price cuts from Microsoft, they won't really go open source." Has this really been the case in the past? And will it be the case this time?
I believe it's quite likely that the answers are no:)
MUDs use many ports, some say to connect with port 23, others say port 25, while more say 1997, 2040, etc. Sometimes people can log into some muds while they can't others. This is because they're using different ports. I think it is a fair assumption to say I am using port 25, 1997, 2040, whatever the mud is telling me to.
And why would I want something more secure then telnet just to play a game? Sheeesh.
The parent is labelled +5 Funny, yet the great grandparent is labelled -1 Offtopic? It's the same friggen joke! How on earth did they get modded differently? At least the great grandparent was about the article!
Osama Bin Laden isn't actually hiding from America. He's got how many wives? I'd say he's using the time-tested technique of Hiding From the Inlaws. Man has perfected this technique over the millenia to an artform. No-one'll ever find him.
Email is not mail it's a post card at best.... Dont like it encrypt the contents and use anon remailers.
Just because it is currently legal for ISPs and work to monitor my e-mails, doesn't make it right. You might not have a problem with it. Fine, good for you. But I password protect my e-mail for a reason.
I want privacy with my e-mail and I don't think I'm unreasonable here. I would rather make your job 100 times more difficult then give up my privacy. So yes, I support any law that makes reading e-mails without permission illegal.
People make the argument "but you're using work tools" but this isn't true offline. If I use work paper and work pens I can expect my letter to not be read by my work. I don't see why this isn't the case legally for online stuff.
Websites such as: http://thelysts.com/ provide e-mail accounts. Their advantage is they're small which means people generally know each other to a degree, which means a trust can form.
To be honest, I am much more trusting of the owner of TheLysts then my ISP.
Having said that I don't know what the laws view in Australia is on the matter.
Why must we have the cliche Russia jokes? No-one finds them funny. So just quit it.
But this does sound great. Another case of people working together when it comes to space. Can there be any negative posts about this story?
Woah! When did it become a standard for ISPs to block port 25? I sure as hell am happy they don't do that 'round here, otherwise people wouldn't be able to telnet to through port 25. Yes, there are legitimate uses for port 25.
Slashdot, the only place where geeks can feel elitist over things like a keyboard layout.
Imagine being able to tape having sex with someone and while your taping it, project it onto the boobs ;)

but the form insists you give it a valid US zip code. That aint gonna happen, considering my country doesn't even use zip codes.
;)
90210 is a valid US zip code. Does the form say A> The valid US zip code of the place you reside or B> A valid US zip code.
If the correct answer is B you are in! It doesn't say you have to live within the zip code you give them, it just says give them a valid US zip code
This is a joke.

I agree. Spa is here to stay. Spam on the otherhand will be susceptible to the approach the article suggested.
I could have sworn there was already an article on an RFID patent, some old guy had it, and only when his patent ran out did they take off.
So what's the deal with this?

Benefits are subjective.

How do I mod this insightful? Because I have been looking for something like this for a while now :)
people should be able to do what they want with their private property.
Is it truly legal to not allow black people in stores in America? Hey, the store is their private property. Same rules apply.

Coporate monopoly. I have searched for it a few times, i guess they don't know what that is
Yeah, fancy not knowing what a Coporate monopoly is. Those people at Microsoft sure are stupid.

your ISP should be blocking outbound port 25
