Dude, the only reason why the majority of people buy an Apple computer it to further the perception that they're "cool". Buying an older model totally defeats the purpose of that. Isn't it obvious?
Hey if the kiddies want to set up their own encrypted AlterNets, they can do that. On their parents' computer systems. These computers were bought by the school using public money. So basically, their computers, their rules. You have a problem with that, well... sucks to be you. That's really all there is to it.
Just as I expect anyone logging onto my computer to follow my rules. If you logged into my laptop and installed a bunch of crap on it just because you think you're entitled to as the person using it, my foot will be kicking your ass.
Fight the power. Take down the man! And all that good stuff...
But unfortunately it has nothing to do with anything here.
Plus it just sounds like you're tooting your own horn. Truly generous people don't need to bask in their own glory. And they certainly aren't desperate enough to do it on a site like Slashdot.
Actually, its 1.07*1.07*1.07*1.07 which is 1.31079601 or 31.079601% and 1.03*1.03*1.03*1.03 which is 1.12550881 or 12.550881% (because it compounds). The difference between the two is nearly 19%, or 9% more than what you said.
That's much more than keeping pace with inflation, and it's not like they're adding any new services either.
"As for console innovation, a lot of folks seem to forget all of the added Live functionality that the 360 brings to the table. You know the thing about being able to play old games on new consoles? The 360 is doing that NOW, thanks to the Live Arcade. At CES, they just announced that Street Fighter II will be on its way. The arcade is already home to many indie games (Wik: Fable of Souls, Mutant Storm, etc.) and retro titles (Gauntlet, Joust, Smash TV)."
Somehow I don't see spending $300+ dollars a good investment at all to play generic old games that can be found at just about every Shockwave/Flash gaming website on the Internet.
I don't need some uber powerful "next-gen" system to play the games you mentioned. I just need to blow the dust off the SNES. Using a super computer (relative to the games) to play Joust, Smash TV, or Street Fighter II and then claiming it's a selling point is just stupid. Are the new super-duper, next-gen games really that much crap that you're tired of playing them already?
I don't recall saying or quoting anything about math, biology, computer sciene or linguistics did I?
Simply not commenting on that aspect doesn't imply anything.
"Oh, and of course, if you want a massively detailed description of at Star Trek episode, it's right there."
Exactly, it's great for worthless trivia, but as soon as you need real information, it's time to pull out an almanac or get a subscription to Encyclopedia Brittanica.
And once you get your first helicopter-based kill, you'll just be more eager to get even better. So, stop whining and just do it. The other guy did. That's why he's good!!
Yeah except he probably did it for eight hours a day for two months. I'm a decent copter pilot, but some of the people that play that game really are cheap.
Oh yeah, and the missiles are still a joke. If it were that easy to evade them in real life, nobody would ever get shot down, even the Iraqis during Desert Storm.

Europe and America used slave labour and virtually slave labour to industrialize as well as putting out massive pollution. China is trying to industrialize and modernize without the same harships and human suffering.
Are the poor peasants in China really that much better off?
No. And for the record, they have less per capita pollution because most of them still use horses for transportation and live in villages without electricity or even running water!
Sure, developers aren't making any money the second time around, but neither is a car maker when a used car is sold.
Mark Rein has a point about reselling Microsoft Office and how the MS legal department would attack voraciously, while reselling Halo is just fine.
Personally, I like finding older games I missed the first time around. The used game market simply isn't the same market as the new game market, and developers just need to get over it.
I noticed in that poll you mentioned that countries like Spain and Germany voted highly that they'd like to see Europe take a larger role in world politics. Go figure, Europeans voting for Europe.
Also, most of the people in the rest of the world don't have the personal freedoms that are available here in the U.S. and in Europe (or Australia, Canada, etc.) so that could also be the "Have Nots" being jealous at the "Haves". Even if you put U.S. and European populations together, that's still only 10% of the world population.
Just because a bunch of people said they don't like us doesn't mean we should worry to much. These things ebb and flow with time.

If they aren't using AutoCAD then what are they using?
That's not funny. That's not funny at all!
Honestly, if he was fun and enjoyed having fun... he wouldn't be such an ass on his "blog".
The PSP isn't much of an onslaught.

Good for you.

It's really easy when you remap the keys. I love flying in San Andreas... with the keyboard.

Some people do believe in energy conservation.
This comment is waaaaay overrated.
Very much so a stretch. In fact I'd go so far as to say "get a clue man!" Whoever wrote that needs to be beat upside the head.

Sounds like technical issues between the chair and the keyboard. Either that or your firewall, proxy, and browser all suck.
Oh c'mon, this is doubly true after some guy held up EB and ran off with two of them. Would you really leave $400 hardware out that could walk off?
Yep, until it gets stolen.
No, I think that actually has a leg up on this comment.

I paid $700 to be in the top 19%... I pwn j00!
"Therefore HBO has solved its own problem. They want to impede viewership, and I shall cooperate with them."
And why should we care what you do? I'm not watching it either but I'm not being a smart ass about it.

If it looked the same and it was running XOOPS or Mambo or anything else, I quite frankly wouldn't care.
