I've noticed that the stability issues might be in the library code, because the popular multi-service IM apps on OS X (Fire, Proteus, and Adium) all use them, and all are rather buggy.
File transfer.
Secure (128bit encrypted) conversations.
Inline image support.
Stability (I've seen GAIM crash more in a day then I have seen real AIM crash in three years).
Audio chat.
Video chat.

I think what he is trying to say is that he can't afford to raise them in a way he would feel was ethical. I couldn't afford to have kids, because as things stand right now, I can't afford health, life, or car insurance, and I eat very little but ramen noodles.
Some posts in reply to this story / article have suggested that kids these days are being coddled, and that's very likely true. But to simply feed, clothe, and insure a child or children is now a struggle, unless you either take lots of handouts from the government or make more than either drsquare or myself do. And I don't think that any one among us would think that having health insurance for your children is in any way, shape, or form "coddling" them. Nor having life insurance on yourself so that if something were to happen to you, they would have something to take care of them.
The difference is, I absolutely hate children. So not being able to afford to raise them is a good thing for me. Not so for him, and I have genuine sympathy for his situation.
Anything that's been running for bloody ages is running on empty. Are you argueing that Voyager should have gone on to 12 or more seasons? It could have...
I pick up perfectly well on it's undertones. I just don't find it funny. It's supposed to be a comedy, and it's not funny. To me, that makes it undeserving of the praise that's so often lavished upon it.
Futurama on the other hand, I do enjoy. Because it's actually funny.
I never found the Simpsons that funny to begin with... in fact, it always seemed kind of stupid. And as long as it's been on, it's been running on empty for years by now. Why don't they just put it out of it's misery rather than attempt to squeeze these last few dollars from the dead horse?
I've noticed that in the US, the speeds are generally lower, but we're fortunate not to have monthly transfer caps.
In other countries, they usually have faster speeds, but anywhere from 2-40GB per month (typically "hard" - as in "shut you down") caps.
...and it limits what you want to do. If you're a gamer, you're probably dropping in a new grpahics card every few months, or as close to that as you can afford.
Me, I used a PII 450 for three years... of course, it had 256MB of RAM in it (back in the days when 128MB was a lot for a desktop, mind you!). Then I upgraded to my current setup: AMD Athlon 1.4GHz with 1.5GB RAM. I don't plan to upgrade this system, since it's my workhorse... runs smooth and reliable.
If I want something faster, I'll build a new one. And if I do that, it'll be a box for gaming.
I noticed there have been a lot of posts like this in this thread.
They're using Linux (already running on the xbox hardware for quite a while) and PearPC, a PowerPC emulater known to be able to run OS X on X86 hardware.

In that bullet point, I wasn't actually referring to AIM, but to Trillian.

Oh, I get them. They're just not funny.

You mean Vogons, don't you?
So, how much longer until I can buy an SEP field generator?
I have this ongoing joke at work that the box marked "NOP" actually stands for "Not Our Problem".
Get so used to the damn noise that you can't sleep without hearing it. Step 2: Sleep well.
How hard is it to immigrate?

Amen! Some people just don't get it...
If you hope he's all right, you obviously didn't read 3001...
Because GAIM has bugs out the ass and crashes all the time, and Trillian doesn't?
Never send a Human to do a Machine's job.
Eh, this is Verizon. A new low level of incompetence.
It took you this long?
Legos, Tinkertoys, Capselas (if you can find them anymore).
:)
I remember much youth mispent building things with any and all of those three.

And I thought the shitty boxes specific to the particular cable companies crashed a lot.
Now when they fail, we'll have BSODs on TVs too!
His name was Alex (Logan, I think).
Perhaps they mean it as it's actually intended to be used... as a measure of distance, and not time?
Actually, it's a sad statement on the status of our political system when there's no one worth voting for.
