Anyway, the musicians generally aren't going to be up in arms.
Then again, they're not really the ones making the money.
It's the suits that are beating on Washington about it, they're the ones with the most to lose. They have no artistic talent, and if the Music Industry fails, music and musicians will survive.
It's the record execs that won't. They're protecting their own asses, not the asses of the musicians.
Not necessarily, but be careful -- you could soon find yourself driving either a Jetta or a new Beetle, and thinking about buying either a mountain bike or a kayak.
It is only a matter of time before you find yourself stopping at a florist on the way to work to make sure there's a fresh flower in your dashboard vase.
Macs will infect you pretty quickly. The only real antidote is going broke.
I mean, look back at all the things technology has saved us from.
People used to enjoy washing dishes, now they're forced to use electric dishwashers to maintain hygiene levels.
There was a time when we would cut trees down by yanking a saw back and forth a couple thousand times, but now chainsaws have revolutionized both Forestry and Murder.
Why, I can remember back before in-vitro fertilization and other advances in reproductive science when people would actually have sex for mere pleasure. We're much safer from disease now that genitals are never required to touch.
We should all welcome this freedom from driving, as History has proven us that Safety is more important than Pleasure.

People seem to want FC to be Desktop Redhat, and that just isn't the plan.
A lot of us have built our desktops around Redhat for years, so the transition may seem a bit harsh, but the reality is that Fedora Core point releases will be fairly often and probably not extremely compatible with everything you've got... FC "shipped" without firewire support, and I still don't think it's been fixed... There will be no Ximian Desktop for FC...
What I do really like about it, though, is how quick the community has been with the apt and yum repositories -- upgrades are generally quick and painless.
The one advatange that laser tag has over things like this is a scoring system.
Of course, if you're a non-competitive type, this isn't an issue, but just thinking about this I can instantly remember being a kid and yelling "You missed me," despite having a little yellow bb lodged in my left eye.
...in the hazy morning after the last Napster orgy, many of us started to think about what we'd done, and went back to buying CDs again.
Personally, I have downloaded a total of about 5 songs in the last 2 years, these days I just buy -> grip -> ipod everything.
The whole downloading thing was a great way to introduce everyone to the idea of digitizing their music and better ways of bringing it into the car (how many CDs have you trashed in your car?), around the house (I use Netjuke to share all of my CDs throughout the house and at work), and pretty much everywhere we go.
I think it's also got to do with the fact that the novelty has worn off.
1. Get a big metal stockpot, or at least the biggest pot you can find.
2. Drop some xmas lights into the bowl, preferably blinking ones. If they do blink, try to pick a slow setting.
3. Fill a glass bowl with water and drops of vegetable oil/cooking oil/whatever sort of light, transparent oil you have around the house
4. Put the glass bowl on the top of the stockpot.
5. Turn off all the lights and stare at the ceiling for a couple of hours.
It really does make for some wild visuals, but you need to keep the water moving just a bit.
It may sounds kinda silly, but if you try it, you'll understand what I'm talking about. The way the lights refract through the oil and the shapes it makes are really incredible.
Aren't you glad you starting paying for downloaded music?
When did I do that?
Pardon my ignorance, but why would you want to pay for limited quality, limited-use audio with no backup medium when you can get full CDs for less money at places like cheap-cds?
Orton believes that ATI can grab more than 50 percent market share in the desktop market in the short term.
That's exactly the kind of BS that CEOs are paid to spew. Does he honestly believe they'll capture more than 50% of the market, or is that the line he's feeding to the board of directors to get the CEO position, which he'll lose when the board gets sick of the BS?
One video card company cannot gain more than 50% of today's market. It's just not possible.
Always wanted to say that on Slashdot.

Thanks for playing.

Check out gtkpod.
The "other one"?
If you're going to complain about exclusion, you should recognize that OSX has a version as well.
Hell, there's even a version for Be.

...the counting in Ohio shows that Kerry actually won?
How binding is this concession?
That's awesome... He got tired of carrying both machines, so he just "invented" CherryOS.
Personally, I'm sick of G.W. Bush, so should I:
a) Invent my own country, or
b) Invent a better President?

if you get a little projector and mount it in the side of one of these so that it can display a, say, 17-20" image on a flat surface.....
What's next, FTP?
"Our research people have also discovered that large numbers of pirated files are being transferred over something called 'FTP.' Our lawyers have advised us that we should immediately sue everyone who uses FTP software."
Sure, the Ronco Turnip Twaddler is advertised to slice, dice, mince, and julienne every root vegetable in your garden.
Hardly surprising, but someone over at Ars has read their Bloom County...

There's a phrase I'm just not comfortable hearing.
That was the first thing I thought of when I first saw a lightsaber.
"Man, that thing would rock for mowing the lawn."
We were selling cord wood at the time, too, and MAN that thing would rock for cutting and splitting.
You'd want a coupla droids to do the hauling and stacking, though.
....if i only had mod points...
I have a friend who has found that his framerate for Enemy Territory running Wine is faster than running natively in Linux or in Windows.
Unfortunately, Punkbuster boots you for running an unapproved OS (or some wording like that), but it's still an interesting tidbit.

Just think about the possibilities... You could have Nagios beep you every time your shoelaces came untied....
Your shopping bag could set off internal alarms when it starts to rip before that bottle of BBQ sauce explodes all over your kitchen floor....
The possibilities are infinite, limited only by the stupidity of the idea in the first place.
