And why do none of the CSI techs never wear headcover while leaning over a crime scene looking for evidence; hairs, dandruff, etc?
What was worse was that in a recent CSI:New York, they were investigating an accident in underground tunnels. All the workers had hardhats on, but the guys from CSI were allowed to roam the crime scene with out a hardhat. There's no way that would be allowed to happen, as in the real world OSHA would probably have someone onsite doing an investigation as well, and monitoring all the safety precautions.
Dang, and I was going to use mod points on this story, but I just have to respond to this.
I thought the same thing you did about the This is a UNIX system comment from the girl in Jurassic Park.
Then about a year later I went to a trade show and lo and behold, what did I see at SGI's display, but this same screen that was on Jurassic Park!! It turns out the interface in the film is a 3D file heirarcy and datamining tool developed by SGI. True, she should have said, "This is an Irix system". But it really was at least a program running on a UNIX variant.
I was just working out the calculations myself for this since I knew this guy either had wrong information or the fastest booting windows server on Earth!
Maybe you don't/shouldn't use the web browser for 2003 Server, but what do you tell your users of 2003 Terminal Server? That they can't use the web? IE vunerlibilites are a giant flashing danger sign on Terminal Server machines.
I hear you there. The first time we had a video system in the car was for a 17 hour trip with 3 kids 7,3, and 1. We would not have made it there without it. Although we still needed to make frequent stops to unstrap the kids from the car and let them run around a bit.
What, you think those jawflappers on the "serious" political ads are all real too?
They're not real.
In fact, if you are anti-corporation, you should really be appalled at this campaign. Video game characters are wholly owned entities of the corporations that created them, these coporoations have been granted a sort of pseudo-person status by the government. Therefore I claim that the video game characters are pseudo persons, and in fact, they are only allowed to say what their owning corporation allows them to say. Do you really think MTV didn't have to _ask permission_ from the corporations to put them in a commercial?
Nope, real people really does trump video game characters in get out the vote campaigns in my opinion.
The basis of the voting process in this country is that EVERYONE HAS A VOICE! When this country was founded do you have ANY idea what the illiteracy rate was? Should those people not have been allowed to vote?
A majority of them weren't allowed to vote.
You do realize that when this country was founded there was a very large percentage of the population that wasn't allowed to vote, don't you? The principle was there but, it took a long time and amendments to the constition to get everyone the right to vote. And, yes, I know there are still some exceptions today.
Ummm, this thread is about Microsoft hijacking the USB standard and using it to hurt Linux. That means that POLICICAL COMMENTS ARE OFFTOPIC. I will grant that some discussion about the DOJ would be appropriate, but I'd have to agree that moderators would be right to mod many items in this particular thread offtopic.
But with warships, hospital equipment, and critical infrastructure, you don't rely on a single point of failure. You design your systems and processes to be redundant to mitigate failure.
You'd like to think that wouldn't you. First, you'd be wrong with regards to hosptial equipment. I don't think there are many hospital devices out there with redundant processing units. Second, if they're using Microsoft software for redundant systems both the primary and the backup would catch the virus, you'd still be hosed.

Are you serious? Is Bush a Babylon 5 fan?
Some of us in the rural midwest speak perfectly good english.
;-)
You can't always say that about the urban northeast
Wait, you're at work and posting to /. over the web, but you can't load up gmail and check this feature??
It took you weeks to get admin rights on a machine you had physical control over??
;-) and an handy little utility CD.
All you need to take care of that is a small power "glitch"
That still doesn't explain the 20" tires with spinner rims. ;-)
I don't even give my TS users access to IE at all, let alone admin access to it.
And yes mozilla would be an option.
Thank you for this post.

Hey, at least he didn't dance around this time!

Trying...

telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

11,000 words right now I only get a handful of word and its all about Gateway Timeouts and stuff, it doesn't mention anything about Star Wars ;-)
Why are you here?

This is not the discussion you're looking for. Move along....
Its not a bias on the part of google its just a quirk built of their algroithms and the structure of the content being searched.
To put it another way its a "Systemic Anomoly".
Sorry, that just popped into my head and I couldn't resist, but really thats what this seems to be.

Ok people say it with me, Bill O'Reilly is a POPULIST, he is neither Democrat or Republican.
If you watch or listen to him you can readily see he comes down with the majority opinion on virtually every issue.
He is not a corporate schill, but he may be anti union, and yes I believe it is bossible to be both those things.

I think you had it in your first statement. The chances of getting a +5 greatly decrease with relation to the age of the discussion.
+3 and +4s can be had, but they generally tend to be later posts to a discussion.
Moderation is not a runaway process than it is a positive feedback loop in relation to time and mod points.
