    Like you I run Ubuntu on an iBook, but I found the upgrade went perfectly. I had switched to edgy ages ago that went fine and all previous 'aptitude upgrades' went off without a hitch. YMMV of course.

    The GPL is not a licence to violate copyright. Copyright law says that only certain people have power to control the distribution of a certain work. The GPL says "You can distribute this under condition X, Y, Z". The GPL doesn't violate copyright law, it uses the power of copyright law.

    The post-PS3 launch does seem a bit odd, since they had previously stated that they would be at market before the PS3.
    They wii will be out before the PS3 everywhere that isn't USA or Japan.

    I was in Kenya recently teaching computers to schools. One primary school we visited in Mombassa actually forbid the children from speaking Kiswahili while in school, they had to speak english instead. This was to encourage them to speak english. English is very prevelant in lots of Kenya.

    I'm going to Ethiopia in June with an organisation called Camara to give refurbished computers to schools. 12 of us are going over there to help set up the computers and to teach the teachers and student how to use computers. Lots of them won't have seen a computer before. Obviously, we use Linux on all our machines. Information technology is incredibly empowering to a society and to schools.     Those figures are about right, but in order to do that you need to have a high enough level, hence invest more time. You could not start earning 5->10 gold per hour with a level 1 character.

    You could not get 500 gold in 6 hours of WoW. He traded 6 hours for something that would take more than 6 hours ton get. It makes economic sense.

    Google's MO is exploiting content & social relationships to sell ads.

    Currently Google sells ads based on what you search for. Basing ads on what you buy (rather than search) is much more targeted

    There ARE benefits to the lock-in system. Remember, physical media isn't foolproof. If you accidentally break or lose your media, and no longer have a receipt (or its long after the return period), then you're out of luck.
    Copying a CD or DVD is quite simple, cheap and fast. It is not a fair trade to trade all the disadvatages for the convience of not burning 5 CDs.

    Dive into Python is a fantastic book. I learned Python from it. However I think "it assumes that you already have a pretty good grasp of programming in some other language." is one of its strongest suits. Many people already know how to programme. With Dive into Python you are not being introducted to the difficult 'if' statement in chapter 5.

    The best thing about Lumines is it's sound, video and music. It's a strange kind of psychedelic game. The puzzle itself is good, but the music and video really make it shine. This clone does not have that, so IMO it won't be a fun to play.

    couldn't use the name Firefly which is why they used the name "Serenity".

    If you listen carefully, you'll notice that the word 'Firefly' isn't said at all in the film.
