Alan Moore's dissociated himself from ANY movie based on his works - it used to be he was okay with it, but then after the lawsuit concerning the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, he lost his desire to even cash the cheques. http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/496/496681p1.htm l

    So:
He got money for From Hell and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
He didn't get money for Constantine, V for Vendetta, and presumably Watchmen

"The exceedingly large fraction of the costs going to create art is an anomaly. In the future the content will a) be taken from huge libraries of real-world objects b) generated procedurally and c) created by users."

I don't believe that's the case. Initial content of games with an artistic vision, say, a sci-fi game, would require completely new assets. Real world objects won't work for everything, procedural generation of objects are not enough to fulfill the vision of the creators, and there are very few users prior to release.

And look at movies - even ones set in the present day require some art direction. The comment severely underestimates the importance of visual artists to games.

Besides, if they were that concerned with speeding, there's nothing stopping them from using, say, photoradar; where they detect how fast you're going, and if you're over the limit snap a picture of your license plate and send you a ticket.

  10. Re:What about the DS? on Web Browsing on Your PSP · · Score: 1

It's not the existence of the pointing device that does it, although that does help - it is the combination of the second screen and being able to use the pointing device with it that allows for a theoretically better interface than the PSP. You don't need to cover up the page with a virtual keyboard that is a pain in the ass to type use - I love the PSP, but it's virtual keyboard works like a cellphone number pad - rather, you just bring up a qwerty-keyboard on the lower screen and tap it to type. And you can still use the d-pad to go through the page as in lynx.

As for the screen - I'm pretty sure that in terms of LCD real-estate, the DS has more - but being divided in two makes the PSP's screen better. But I still think that the DS can have a much better browser interface.

Think of an apple as a Lexus, and a dell as a Ugo. Sure, the Ugo will get you from point A to point B, but it is made of inferrior parts, tends to fail, and lacks any style.

Let's be honest here, a Dell isn't as bad as a Yugo. It's more like a Chrysler.

In the case of Mario 64 for DS, it's because they wanted to launch at Christmas and before the PSP lest they end up eating Sony's dust. Investing more time in a good brand new Mario DS for launch means likely either delaying the launch of the DS or launching without their flagship franchise, which is something they're unlikely to repeat after the GameCube. They were on the clock, simple as that. Now, they are making a new Mario DS game, as there's video of it. But whatever it ends up being, it wouldn't have been near the quality they require for the system's launch title. Now, as a DS owner, I am frustrated that it will take until February for another game I actually want to hit the North American market. But you can't argue that the DS's market penetration in the last month and a half hasn't been impressive. And the library will be built up by the time the PSP launches, so they've got themselves a head start on Sony.
