As one of the lucky ones who got Mass Effect over the weekend from the dummys at K-Mart, let me say that I'm 8-9 hours in and this is my dream game. If you liked Kotor, you will love this. It has some very obvious flaws, but once the game gets going you won't even care.
Sites like Metacritic are part of the problem. It's these review aggregate sites that force any writer who wants their review to be read to give out a numeric score, or a score that can be converted into a numeric score. Everyone would learn more about the game they're researching if game reviews had no score and you just read about what the reviewer liked and didn't like. But people are lazy and would much rather see that game A is 13 points better than game B. What is 13 points? Does that mean it has better graphics, or a better story? Its nothing, its meaningless, and it should go.
I also stopped watching TV in 8th grade and my life has also vastly improved since making the change. Just a few years after turning off the tube I was allowed to drive, see rated R movies, and even drink alcohol. My parents also stopped telling me what to do and when to go to bed, and I could even go to college! Now I have a good job, car, and live in my own place with my girlfriend. I didn't have any of this back in 8th grade when I watched TV, and it makes me wonder where I would be if I had stopped watching in 1st grade.
You misunderstand. It could be done a whole lot faster than that, but it won't because Microsoft won't let it. This is their 360 system seller and they're sure as hell not undermining that by making it available on another platform. You really think that Halo 2 didn't see its PC release until 2.5 years later because of the amount of work involved?
Xbox live solves the splitscreen and voice chat issues, and is better than anything the PC has at letting you play together with friends. I formed a party with 2 friends last night and it takes care of finding you games together. If you want to play team games it matches you up with other teams of similar skill. If you want FFA games, it will put you all in the same FFA game. You party up once and it finds you games together for the rest of your session.
I can't say for sure, but considering they had this in Halo 1 and 2, I would assume its in 3 also.

You're looking to avoid a re-hashes of the same old game and you picked up a WWII shooter? And not just any WWII shooter, the 11th game in a franchise that was never very interesting to begin with. And then complained about its storyline? The internet is full of game reviews if you're interested in knowing whats crap before you spend your money.
I actually own a Saturn (stop laughing). Its the $150+ pricetag for the game via ebay that I'm unhappy about. TFA says that the original game's source code is basically destroyed, so there's no hope of a port.
Bioshock really doesn't need a sequel. The best thing about the game was that it put you in this mysterious place and you gradually discover how it became that way. You know all that now. Sure some new bad guy can take over the city and need to be taken out, but thats nowhere near as interesting, and by the nature of being a sequel the game won't be anywhere near as original.
I would hope the irrational team gets to do another new property, since they've shown how good they are at it.
While not mentioned in the article /. linked to, the downloadable content also adds an option to the options menu to disable vita chambers.

Being tricked into installing linux is the least of your problems if you're getting spam with 700mb attachments.
Because we would be better served by reviews that gave no score at all and actually required you to read about the quality of the game.

How can you possibly misquote this line? And on slashdot no less.
Heh, I found it funny.
If the HD-DVD had been included since the beginning it would have cost twice as much and most of us probably wouldn't own one.

Hey we still have Mario Galaxy this year, along with...umm...yea.
Bioware didn't do KOTOR2, nor can anyone possibly think it was well concluded.

You're crazy if you think Microsoft is letting Bungie put out a PC (read: vista only) version before 2010.
I just tried it and there doesn't seem to be anything there.

Enough to fill the Library of Congress!
What? Is that the wrong way to use that unit?

Agreed. In fact, so does the game's creator: http://kotaku.com/gaming/microsoft/lost-odyssey-lights-out-301746.php/
I once thought I had a sixth sense while wearing a headband. It turns out it was just on too tight.

Its not more than I could ever want unless its an affordable way for me to play panzar dragoon saga!
Also wish I had mod points.
