Hopefully this alliance between Tesla and Toyota will give us sexy electric cars that don't cost a fortune.

Ah yes, the old "he was asking for it", blame the victim mentality. Of course people should be aware of the consequences of their actions. However, that does not mean that those consequences are justified. Me calling you an asshole or your wife a slut in a public place does not exonerate you if you decide to break my nose or shoot me. The point is that you have no right to not be offended. Any action you take in response to an offensive statement, image, etc is entirely on you. Blaming the victim of your rage for "inciting" you is just a cop out and shows that there is no place for you in a modern, peaceful society since you could potentially fly off the handle over the smallest annoyance and you are completely incapable of taking responsibility for your actions.

But parents can't be aware of what their children are doing 100% of the time. It's a LOT easier to control distribution at the point of sale, rather than at the point of consumption. If a parent tells their kid they are not allowed to purchase or play a certain game, can that parent ensure that their 15-year-old kid won't still buy that game when said parent tells their kid "yes, you may go to the mall with your friends"? 1,000 parents, enforcing a self-ban on violent games for their 1,500 kids isn't nearly as effective as 100 retailers being banned from selling them to those kids. If the parents want their kids to have access to those games, then they can still buy GTA 9 for Johnny's birthday.

That is why there are parental controls on every single current generation video game console. There are also a number of software solutions for the computer. Why do we need a law that affects everyone just to pick up the slack for the few who are just too lazy to care?

Every day I see people who feel the need to look directly at the person in the passenger's seat in order to carry on a conversation with them while driving. People are going to zone out or focus on something else while driving because they just don't care. What we need is some sort of HUD on the windshield or rear-view that displays a directional arrow or something similar every 3 seconds. If the arrow is pointing left, the driver should have to press a corresponding button on the left-hand side of the steering wheel, and a button on the right-hand side when the arrow is pointing to the right. Give insurance companies access to this information under legislation which states that while rates for inattentive drivers may increase, rates for attentive drivers must decrease.

I know my idea isn't perfect but I think it points us in the direction of devising a way to measure and encourage driver attentiveness in a quick and fairly unobtrusive way. So many accidents could have easily been avoided if at least one more person involved had been paying attention.

It's a gun. It's used to kill things, and only to kill things.

I'm getting really tired of this statement and sentiment in general. Not everyone who owns a gun is a redneck Texan who runs around shooting twin pistols wildly into the air or at any living creature that crosses their path. I own two guns and I have never shot at any living being and I never intend to. As far as home defense purposes, my guns are useless to me because I keep them unloaded with safeties/trigger locks on and I don't even have any kids in my house. I won't ever load my guns in my own home because I am just too paranoid that I might accidentally drop it or snag the trigger or anything to cause an accidental discharge. Since I don't keep my guns for home defense there is no reason to load them in the house anyway. I do have an actively monitored alarm system which I feel is a much more effective deterrent against robbery/home invasion but my point is that I own guns because I like shooting targets at the range as well as trap and skeet, not to kill things.

That said, this man is the worst kind of careless idiot. Incidents like this further enforce my belief that there needs to be a federal law requiring people to be certified in basic firearm safety before being allowed to purchase any type of firearm. Perhaps there could be independent certifications for semi-auto pistols, revolvers, pump shotguns, breach-load shotguns, semi-auto rifles, bolt-action rifles, etc.

At first I thought this was simply because of budgeting or laziness, but the more I think about it the more I wonder if it is to discourage people with laptops from sitting in the first three rows. Of course with iPhones and netbooks getting more than three hours of battery life it probably isn't as effective at dissuading Facebook and YouTube addicts from sitting up front, but I'm still intrigued as to whether or not this is the actual reason.
