    software patents such as most of /., i do think this is a totally bad idea (and i don't see how it would go through)

    I think this more than anything would really stiffle innovation. the whole gaming industry moves so fast that it wouldn't seem worth it to waste money on patents. you would think they would want to crank out the next product to garner more earnings than sit on one idea for to long.

    but then again, that is logical

    spies are more likely to do industrial espionage compared to spying on gov'ts. it is apparently a lot easier to get info from companies about gov't plans (through contracts, ect) than trying to spy on the NSA or CIA

    but then again, this is what i have read, so take it for what it is worth

    a lot of it has to do with ego, and a lot of it has to do with committing to something and saying "this is what we are going with"

    some people invest a lot of time into ideas and when they see their ideas threatened, they throw up the defense like no other. it transends programming all the way up to world politics.

    i am guilty of it, but i have gotten better at admiting my mistakes and using it as something to build upon. it takes a lot to realize when you are at fault and you fucked up.

    i can do all the programming i need on it (even .NET), unix backend, awesome interface. iPod even helped get me in the store to play with them.

    thus why everyone should oppose city governments offering free wifi, they are trying to take control of the pipes. once tehy own the pipes they can filter out what they don't want.

    Everyone already equates junk email to "spam" their efforts will be futile. This will have as much success as MS trying to rebrand searching from "googling" something to "msning" something. it simply won't happen under the direction of the company wishing it so. all the IP lawyers in the world aren't going to change the minds of the entire population of computer users.

    they are wasting their money.

    one of the great side effects of a larger and more intrusive government that regulates industry. those dangerous corporations get government protection by buying it, so those that can afford it from big government can get the laws and protection they need.

    anyone that feels threatened by "big business" should feel threatened by "big government" as well. as soon as a government can regulate business is the moment government can become corrupt by the richest.

    Simple: if there is a demand for 911 service, someone would provide it. you know good and well when you purchase the phone it lacks those numbers. you should have your local fire dept and police dept #'s written down somewhere close to the phone in case of emergency. Another example of idiots expecting people do to everything for them.

    Punch your boss in the face if they are requiring you to use IE only for .NET. I do .NET development and there are TONS of cross browser controls out there for every feature imaginable. I don't see why anyone using .NET would be tied to IE only.

    As long as China remains communist and the government tries to control the economy, they will never surpass the United States in relative output.

    But then again, we are seeing China move towards a more capitalistic model and the United States moving towards a more socialist model, it will be interesting.

    IMO, Your best bet would be to incorporate (also serves to protect you in contractual agreement) and file your taxes for your income through that. LLC would allow you to limit your tax liability.

    Agree 100%. When i was in school we only had a handful of them. We used them when it was necessary.

    Now look at me, I am a software engineer, I think they are the biggest waste of money within a school, they are "super machines" that people think will make teaching go so much better.

    Give the money to the teachers to higher a better staff, THEN you will have more well informed children. God if they paid $60K+ starting to teach, think of the people they could have instructing.
