  1. Re:Go all the way on Attempt to Apply Decency Standards to Cable/Satellite Television · · Score: 1

You know in the good old days I just used my parent's copy of "The Joy of Sex." That was some high quality sketching, not like this fancy inner net stuff.

All this BS posturing by the gov't isn't going to do crap. Kids will learn from friends or dad's dirty magazines anyway.

I hate to start a Bush bash, but these conservatives think they can do anything with a guy like that in office.

I don't know that any of us can comment on Mr. Gates' intentions. Only he (and maybe people close to him) really knows the intentions of his actions. In the end he is the one who has to live with his own conscience and if he's greedy and doing it just to get an extra $100,000 tax refund then that is his problem. If he's doing it out of guilt for being the leader of a monopoly then that is also his problem.

In the end the "Teen Beat" article could well have been the brightest moment in his career.

  4. Next years music will sound... on Music Labels May Seek Higher Download Prices · · Score: 1

distinctly like a cell phone ring tone becuase (according to TFA) cell ringtones are priced 15% higher than a music download. These companies are in the wrong business! If they want to lock customers in they should really look at the cell phone industry where they can really sock it to the consumer. Idiots!

Could this be an indicator or the quality of music that these companies are forcing upon us?

Then again...how many people out of the cell phone population are actually buying ring tones at $1.15 a pop (if you ad 15% to the $1.00 music track) compared to the music purchases of the population of music player owners?

  5. Re:Okay... on AirPort Express Streaming Audio From Any Program · · Score: 2, Informative

When they realize that everyone is buying an AirPort Express.

Fortunately the AP Express is not a single purpose device, like other streaming audio solutions. The printing and network extending capabilities make it well worth the $125.

A great addition to the AirPort would be a remote control with TV display. I'm visualizing being able to see my track info on my TV screen and control the tracks with a remote. I know that there is a TiVO solution (that I won't link to, use google) that works like this, but the cost of all the hardward puts you up there with the non-AirPort Express solution. Then again multitasker capabilties of TiVO also increase it's value over the single task streaming audio devices.

  16. Re:So what? on Game Industry Derided For Mature Content · · Score: 1

The governator is just enforcing the system. He's not saying that the minor cannot play the game.

This is a great way to involve the parent in the game buying process. If a parent decides that it's ok for their child to play an "M" rated game then they can go buy it for them, simple. In a way, this also teaches parents to be a little more involved in what their kid is exposed to.

This has noting to do with hampering game sales or promoting his movies. AFAIK, movie theaters also verify age when a minor wants to see an "R" rated film. So, if Arnold wants the kiddies to see his movie then he probably will make sure that it gets a lower rating, like "Jingle all the Way"

  17. How to be a famous lawyer... on The Music Man · · Score: 1

If you could RTFA (I understand it's /.ed right now) you would see that this guy is a lawyer.

I have the feeling that his actions are to directly benefit his career as a lawyer. This guy is just waiting/hoping/begging to have suit brought against him. He has probably carefully examined the law and feels that he has a chance of winning and becoming famous for his exploits.

He very carefully goes about his downloading. According to him, he never shares the music, even with his own kids. This meticulous behavior leads me to believe that this guy has found some looophole that will bring him $$/fame if he were to ever get sued.

I'm not talking about file sharing, I'm talking about internet radio stations.

I'm willing to bet that the same people that are buying satellite would listen to internet radio. I think that all the 15 mins of music with 30 mins of comercials really puts off a lot of tradional radio listeners these days. These people are turning to internet and satellite to avoid all this BS. You only need to listen to commerical radio once a month to memorize the playlist.

Turn on internet and satellite and you'll have to listen a whole month to hear the same song again, if it really does play again. Plus with internet radio you can get an artists name (not sure how this works with satellite).

My point is that if it weren't for these new technologies I probably wouldn't have found anything new.

That and AllMusic which is a great resource for researching a genre or even an artist that you like.

Lost my virginity to one that my dad built. Had RAM the size of an ATX motherboard (4kb, I think), coax out, and ports to control a portable tape machine, I believe that there were some other connectors back there.

I recall that I had to load the BASIC interpreter from tape before I could even use it. I was only able to actually save to tape and extract from the tape once in the whole year that I used it.

It is now collecting dust in the garage, wonder if there are collectors out there?

Pretty sure it still works, needs a new fuse holder though.

I just went through a similar situation. I had used up all my authorized computers. One of which was at an old job and my personal one had gone down and needed a rebuild.

I sent an email through customer service and they deauthorized all the computers on my account. The reply email was a little strong in language. Apple only does this as a "courtesy."

In fairness to them, they need to do this to keep on good terms with the RIAA. It is basically DRM safety mechanism. Everyone knows how easy it is to copy music off the iPod to a PC. The authorization process is the only way to keep you from giving away the iTMS content to someone else. I know there are ways around this, but they are tedious...
