Internet access for students

Why not just give the students Internet access
in the laundromat? I have seen a couple Laundromat/Internet cafés - this seems like a good idea to me. You need to kill (or usefully work) a few hours while waiting.
Yes, I agree that many people incorrectly use
"semantic" to mean "minor". In a business meeting I was once told
"lets not get into semantics on this". "But semantics is about meaning - I stammered - how can we not talk about that".
Another one is "rhetoric".
"Oh that's just rhetoric" some people say
insultingly. But the
dictionary definition is "the art of speaking or writing effectively". That's at insult I can handle.
It sounds like there is something like a
tape juke box system in there.
They are hugely expensive to buy not to
mention maintain. And this is verses
paying somebody minimum wage.
Also, of course, the RoboShop needs
to be stocked by a human so why not
have him/her tend store.
Seems nice and subversion - invokes "paternalistic".

WorldCom Fraud Doubles

ok, not about Worldcom but about business news...
Intel is NOT going to expense options. Big respected "old economy" companies like Coke and GM have said they would. What's Microsoft going to do. The lure of riches is a big drive for all the microsurfs. If they discontinue options the employees would be far less motivated, if they don't expense the options they are being (er) irregular.
What about the address bar in Explorer

I am so glad that you can now type in Explorer's
address bar. The idea is stollen from web browsers, of course. This is a useful CLI for many users.
You know you want to browse "c:\docs" just type it in. Its quite sad that sooo many of the paths in
Windows are giant like "c:\Documents and Settings".
It would be nice if other programs added app-specific command lines. Eg in Photoshop type the name
of the filter you want to run rather than going thru
zillions of menus.
So they are running SUX - has it occured to them that it sounds like SUCKS?
Maybe they should take a lead from the former the canadian "Conservative-Reform Alliance Party"... yes C.R.A.P. and
change their name
- set_extra(file, stuff_name, stuff, stuff_len)
- get_extra(file, stuff_name, stuff, stuff_size, &stuff_len)
Of course that doesn't handle stuff that's generated from the file like expanding a JPEG.... what's the point?
PNG makes sense.

That's why I have been using Netscape 6.x for a long time now - and I am very happy with my choice. No crashes.

How come nobody is asking what protocol is uses
over the line? If its something standard - that would be nice - MPEG4?

Do you need Internet Explorer to visit a .net-powered site. Can one use Mozilla?
arg, make that their ampersand-digits-semicolon equivalent.
It seens that "Encrypter" replaces characters
with their equivalent. I'm sure no
spambot will ever figure that out.
I have heard that Halo is the only good game (ie reason to buy) an xbox - no its out on PC the one reason to buy an xbox is gone.
100m x 100m is a hectare so they blocked of 1-4 hectares which is a very big apartment.
No body else has mentioned it so I will... the article mentions that its running two Linux clusters!
Yup it's ISO 8601.

Usually because everything else around it changes.
The lesson: use plain text, don't dig in the latest thing (ie ignore the cover of MSDN magazine!)
... and smoking and smoking and smoking. There's still lots of yummy smoking in China. Maybe they should just ban smoking in "Internet Cafes".
One million in eight years is $125K a year which isn't bad but he has two employees (dad and fiancee). Instead he sounds like a hardworking guy.
