Does salting the roof work well? I also live where the roof can be expected to have 3 feet of snow on top for quite a while. We generally leave it alone unless it gets a good deal higher, in which case we get up there and shovel.

I know I'm being naive about this, but I'm curious. When this value was calculated, did anyone suggest that the meter correspond to 1/300,000,000 lightsecond exactly? Light-speed calculations would be easier, and it would have a more Metric "feel" to it.

Those who needed this precision would notice the difference between this and defining the meter the way it was decided on, of course. But didn't they have to account for a new definition anyway?

    Sigh. Don't I wish!

A year or so, my parents are thinking about getting a new computer. Naturally they come to me for advice. The only OS they would be capable of running safely is OS X (IMHO) and I told them that. But no! Macs are toys. They need to do Real Work, like checking their email. So they got a new box with Windows XP. I have never seen a machine with so many viruses. Plenty of spyware too. So every time I go home, I have to fix it. Never mind that the only time I've ever used XP is in their house.

    Whee.
