There is no such thing as a level playing field. The game started thousands of years ago and it cannot be reset. The levelest we can get the field is to not let the refs call the plays in anyones favor. Government is big and stupid, I do not trust it to make correct decisions, therefore its decision making power should be limited. Individuals must do what they can to improve their own situation. Government's only job should be to stay out of the way and keep it from violence.
If you are learning how to click menu items in Websphere, you are getting an IT degree, not a Computer Science degree.
In theory you could teach a full computer science degree without even touching a computer. Computer Science is the theory behind computation, IT is the practical application of the work.
I try to start my workday and finish my workday with some personal projects. Sometimes I have had employers who encouraged working on a fun project at work, sometimes I needed to work on something 'work-related', but generally it had to be fun. I would use these projects as a warm up and a cool down from the brunt of my work programming. I found that it would get my head into 'programming space' with something enjoyable, and at the end of the day, let me leave thinking about my fun work and not the hard slog of the day. Keeps your brain healthy!
Dude, I like Halloween too, but I dont give out games for it, just candy.
Also, Zonk, your account will be suspended for posting links on the front of /. to the bungie.net website. Thanks for the crash!

Most slashdotters need instructions on the normal way to develop Mono.

But they spam my browser too!
Now if my glasses break, I lose my MP3 layer. And if my MP3 player breaks, I get a bulky pair of glasses. Convergence is Awesome!

That is an urban myth. The internet was designed by some 14 year olds who wanted pr0n without getting caught by the lady at the bookstore.
(Quicker Question: Where does Linus live, work and raise his family, anyone????)
To quote Denis Leary:
"Life sucks, get a helmet!"
There are actually more 'Computer Science' majors, but at the risk of being overqualified for the jobs at McDonalds, they are lying about it.
Does anyone else find it odd that a school to produce more geeks is named after a outdoor wear company? the mascot? Northface University Jackets

Next he can make a page about Slashdot, now that he is going to be bilked out of bandwidth overage fees.
