instead of "joined forces to form Urge", should have said "merged to form Urge". and yes, i do love watching dateline nbc.

  2. porn on Paramount Sues Ohio Man For $100,000 · · Score: 2

i'm curious. i don't hear much about the porn industry going after file-sharers. it's not like there isn't any porn on kazaa, emule, bittorrent, or usenet. hell, it's probably the majority of traffic on any file-sharing network. do they not care or just don't have enough politians in their pocket? or is file-sharing not enough of a loss to them (lower production cost)? also, it seems like the porn film industry is more lucrative than ever. maybe the file-sharing helps them by increasing their market? donno, can anyone shed some light?

it's all capital one's fault. all these pirates have nothing else to do so they upload movies. (please don't mod me offtopic just because you don't watch tv).

excellent post. i thought i was hardcore. btw, i believe if you rip using eac and lame 3.93 or above, it does gapless. i use rockbox on my iriver h140 and i didn't realize they some of my collection was already ripped gapless until i was listening to "the wall" one day and didn't notice any gaps or stutters. i'm pretty finicky about my rips (EAC - secure mode, LAME 3.96.1 standard) too. all tagged with id3v2 only and album art added to all tracks. btw, do you live in nyc? i might take you up on that offer and stop by with a spare HD :)

  5. Re:Exactly on Apple Holding Back the Music Business? · · Score: 1

not only did they try hope everyone would buy dvd-audio versions of all their music, but they put a bunch of copy protection (CPPM) on it and also disabled digital output. they basically tried to herd everyone into a more secure holding pen, since the digital audio horse had escaped the cd barn. the extreme protections kept the enthusiast market from buying in. if you scare off the early adopters, what chance do you have for everyone else? they need to stop trying to strong arm their costumers. the business model will change eventually, whether or not they r on the boat. they are just fighting the tide with buckets. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-Audio

what are you basing your premise on? as far as i know, buddism and hinduism don't promote lying. and about their "failure"; perhaps they just haven't mastered the skills of conquering, abuse, slavery, and genocide that we seem to do so well. just ask any native american, if you can find one. btw, is this also your explanation for africa?

  22. get what you pay for on Get Out of Voice Menu Pergatory · · Score: 1

because of the internet, it has become very easy to compare prices down to the dollar. most people buy the cheapest item from the cheapest source. this makes companies try to shave as much as possible from the price. one of the first things to go is support because it costs so much. a 90 day base warranty used to be standard on only the cheapest computers, now everyone is doing it. i'm the type of person who pretty much only calls support when i already know what the problem is and just need a part. there are a lot of people who call first (they either don't want to or don't know how to do some basic troubleshooting). a well designed automated system can remedy a lot of their problems, if they give it a chance. companies will try to cut costs whereever they can. there are two parties forcing them to do so. customers who buy strictly on price instead of value, and of course the shareholders who want to see higher profits.
