Yes, there are workarounds... But none that a consumer would want to deal with. Work arounds would increase load time, increase amount of processing during play, increase login times, etc. Gamers like their games to go fast now, they dont like to wait around.
Technically you could build your entire game with procedurely generated geometry and textures, loading and saving only info and any new procedures. The only problem is there are VERY few people out there doing things this way. Though, after Will Wright's Spore comes out, I think there will be a great increase in procedural game programmers.
But, there is no monetary loss to the RIAA if I download a song. They didnt produce the mp3 file, they never spent computer time encoding the music, nor placing it on a distribution network. Now, lets say i never wanted to buy the said music CD or pay for an iTunes version. The RIAA never lost any money because of my decision, by choosing not to buy their music, they never lost money, they just never gained money. By downloading the music, I am not causing lost revenue because they couldnt recoup the loss of a CD not being sold, thus not supporting manufacture costs. No CD was stolen, its still sitting on the shelf in a music store as potential revenue, I am just not the person who will be providing that psitive revenue stream for that entire CD. By downloading a music file, i am not causing a negative revenue stream to the RIAA, I am just not causing revenue at all to be generated; positive or negative. They are NOT loosing money, by downloading the file, dollars are not being subtraced from the RIAA. So why people call this stealing is beyond me. I am not taking anything from them at all. To truely be called stealing it would have to result in a direct Loss to the RIAA.
The problem with this whole thing is that I am recieving an exact copy. A copy that costs nothing to produce. Society hasnt had to deal with this situation before, where someone could aquire something without cost of physical resources or labor. The RIAA wants you to believe that this is stealing. That way they can make MORE money, but if it is considered just to be duplication with no loss, they cannot profit at all. Its a philosophical decision, one of which's outcome will decide the path that our country will follow for the rest of history, or untill we as a people change our minds on the subject.

exactly, only a very very small amount goes to fledgling artists... like $4000 out of a $250,000 deal. Here is a link with how the RIAA does 'buisness' with real artists http://www.arancidamoeba.com/mrr/problemwithmusic. html
people find out it sucks after they have downloaded it. Think of it this way: I DL it, see if it is any good, if its good, I will buy it, if its not, I will delete it.
The RIAA already admits that P2P file sharing doesnt hurt them as much as people copying and then selling CDs, and think about how much more prevalent P2P is than CD re-sellers.
Doesnt ATI do the same thing Nvidia does and sell the chip fab plans to other chip-makers, or do ATI chips only come straight from ATI? (Havent bought an ATI card in over 10 years)
The powerglove wasnt even made by nintendo. It was a 3rd party controller, by activision or matel, or something like that... If done right, i believe games will be more fun to play than just using a d-pad and a joystick.
The problem with steroscopic displays is the fact that they have to 'trick' your eyes all the time. This causes more eye strain than normal. This was also a problem with the virtual boy, because people never read the instructions that told you how to callibrate it for your eyes, leaving most people to say it hurts to use, its all fuzy, or it doesnt work. I dont think the red had anything to do with it, people played the same monochrome gameboy and had no problem with that. Though the vector graphics could have been a turn off to some. the VB was a great idea, but flawed in execution and by the intelligence of the users.
Im sorry but you need to check your facts a little. Revolution WILL support DVDs with the addition of a special DVD dongle (keeps the core system price down, and those who already own a DVD player dont need this extra piece)
yes, exactly. Everyone remember the gamegear. Sure it was pritty and vastly superior to the gameboy. But it was expensive and ate batteries, and thus was doomed to fail... wait... the PSP is expensive and eats battery power... hrm..... coincidence... time will tell...
Economically flying faster than sound in something big enough to carry 300 passengers that doesnt produce a sonic boom is an engineering challenge of the highest degree.
yes, exactly! While most of TV/Cinema has been garbage, the ammount of Great media has steadily declined. Budgets definatly have alot to do with why good shows die. A classic example would be how Farscape was essentially replaced by the utter filth that was Tremors: The Series due to budget problems. Why they didnt just hose tremors and keep farscape, i will never know. Because of the amount of utter crap on TV now adays, I just cant get myself to watch any of the networks stations anymore, its just too painful and litteraly mind numbing to watch. I dont care if they have shows like Lost (which i have never seen due to the above reason) I wont watch the alphabet networks because 99% of the time, they are utter flaming dog@*&#.
What do I watch? I usually end up watching the premium channels (showtime/hbo), History channels (history or international history), Sci-fi, Cartoon Network (Adult Swim is awsome, most unique programming in years), and Comedy Central (The Daily Show).
History channel usualy has a 8:1 Good vs. crap rating, with only a 3:1 good vs. relentless WWII rating.
Showtime/HBO movies 4:1 ok vs crap, and a original shows 10:1 good vs crap.
Sci-Fi, not doing as well recently, slipping to a 1:4 good vs crap.
Cartoon Netork is more of a nostalgic network, you either like it or you dont, but adult swim rates for its shows 3:1 hillarious vs F'n hillarious and for anime about a 3:1 cool vs WTF!?
Comedy Central unfortunatly is about the same as sci-fi at a 1:4 good vs crap.
At least, thats my opinion, yours of course will vary.
I guess you havent seen the customer service in City of Heroes. Its unrivaled by any MMO i've played, and probably a contributing factor to how CoH manages to stay afloat since the release of WoW. People care for the game, and so do the devs, and they let their customers know. Trust me, the best way to keep your player population happy and entertained is guess what? Participating with the player population. Who would of thought of it?!?! This doesnt mean you cater to their every desire, but just because you are a dev, does not mean that you can ignore your customer base.
Heck if I do it right, i could just grab the color info through my monitor cable through an engineered passive dongle, decode the analog, and then re-digitize it. Stealing a video signal is so easy, i dont understand why they bother with copy protection anymore, there is ALWAYS a way around it.
Who else thinks this is a phenominally stupid idea! If anything we should just get rid of Daylight savings, it costs us tons of money each year to be out of sync with the rest of the world.
actually that is kinda untrue, at least in regards to the music industry. Back when tipper gore went on her tirade about music lyrics in modern music to the senate and resulted in the 'parental avisory' label. The sales for music carying that label actually skyrocketed, defeating the actualy purpose the label was created for. The saying "There is no such thing as bad publicity" is very true, at least when it comes to music. It wouldnt be that much of a stretch to say it could easily apply to videogames as well. The value of the current editions of GTA:SA has almost surely gone up, and will continue to increase in value as the market becomes filled with the updated version Rockstar is working on.
didnt lizards of the toast... errr wizards of the coast make one recenlty (in past 2-3yrs). Good pictures to it, never did get to play it. The person who bought it purchased it as a collectors item.

yea, non interactive media just isnt that fun anymore. Sure you get a few good movies/shows, but the rest is just turid crap.

That assumption of my statement is left up to the reader. I did not say that the US was the only country that observed DST.
