I'm going to throw a bullshit flag on this one because the vast majority of people who are going to run hacked OS X won't do it with a license they purchased and I believe anybody who says they will is lying. I do stuff like that myself, but I don't try to pretend that it is right. I use Linux or buy an OS if I feel that I need to be legal/moral with everything.

Well, I wasn't completely wrong, but I did do some more searching and found that Rush apparently said that after passing the Medicare bill, the Republicans are no longer the small-government party. http://www.georgiaparty.com/newsroom/pressRelease. asp?pressID=46

I agree that it is bullshit that Rush said this; he is happier than a pig in shit with the way things are right now. What is not bullshit is that Republicans have now become the big spenders. They simply aren't taxing to cover their spending habits, so my children will pay off the debt in time for the next big war.

Unfortunately, if you give people a bigger source of (relatively) cheap energy to use (ie more oil), then they will use that and continue to ignore the alternatives since the infrastructure is already in place. Simple economics say that the path of least resistance is the path the majority of consumers will take.

Just to add a little fuel to the fire, I would like a little bit more weaning to occur as well. I found this nice little chart that shows what states receive back in federal benefits for each dollar in federal taxes that they pay. My home state of Wisconsin gets $.84 back for every dollar it puts into the system, whereas New Mexico gets $1.97 back, Mississipi gets $1.69, West Virginia gets $1.72, etc. http://www.taxpayfedil.org/images/fedspend.gif Meanwhile, MN and WI can't even keep decent roads around due to the frost heaving everything in the winter. Let's do our best to make those southern states pull their own weight!

I'm afraid straw man arguments don't hold up here. First off, the manure is useful and biodegradable. It did pose a bit of a disposal problem in large cities, but it was useful. Second, how do you predict the future other than extrapolating a trend? You can't depend on some miraculous technology that hasn't been developed. We have to make efforts toward our goals ourselves if we want to create change. We cannot simply say that our children will create something useful to reduce/eliminate oil dependence.
