Its not a gimmick if used properly. For example CGI could've been seen as a gimmick early on but two movies used it properly to enhance the story (Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park). When time is taken into putting an effect into a film it can greatly enhance the experience when its done last minute like "Clash of the Titans" its pulls you away from the story and you get garbage.

The problem today is that a studio will slap on "3D" and charge $12 a ticket instead of $7.

Thats because Warren Buffet doesn't like the idea of transferring wealth from one generation to the next. Warren Buffet wants his children to be independent from him and make it on their own. Ever hear of those stories where the children of the highly succesful tend to be screw ups? Because they were handed everything and never understood the idea of making it on their own. Additionally, they weren't written out of his will, they just wont receive a large amount of wealth, same thing is happening with Bill Gates children.

The Californian startup claims that it had no other recourse, issuing a statement that it reluctantly took legal action after its repeated attempts to contact the makers of Top Gear and the BBC, over the course of months, were ignored.

First, they tried setting the record straight 2 years ago. Then they attempted to contact Top Gear and BBC probably to avoid a legal mess and were ignored. So of course after two years of this they finally had to go through the legal system to the record straight.

Bill Gates always claimed that his stuff was cheaper than everyone elses, and he barely made any money at all. Thats why he has made the Forbes greediest list for such a long time, his priest-like oath to poverty. I heard the story about how Allen would be pale, vomiting, and shivering over a console, while Gates tells Ballmer, that if he doesn't put in a full 60 hours a week, and get the project done on time, he forfeits 80% of his stock. Gates didn't contribute any code, not much for ideas, but he did have the company. Oh, and he had more greed than any of the others. Some also described him as a sonofabitch. But you never heard that from me.

Are you describing Bill Gates or Steve Jobs here? Because I heard this same story from the Apple camp also just with different names.

So Microsoft's goal is NOT to make money from new tech?

Probably not worth it at this point, most big players have already entered the market. Microsoft cancelled their tablet months ago because they probably figured by the time it was designed, developed, produced, and sold they would be in a saturated market with many competitors. Better off putting those resources to something else in the pipeline.

Even if it is a bubble Microsoft shows its corporate vision (or lack thereof) in this.

Or they don't want to go down the Zune path again. As from above, release a product into an already saturated market. How much more can you really improve on a tablet at this point? The tablet is like the Netbook, at first the competitors could have better battery life, better screens, better software, as time went on these factors didn't matter anymore. Now the Netbook is a commodity device, you can buy almost anyone and get the same features.

Kind of sad because this is the same company that made the Kinect not so long ago, showing that not everybody at Microsoft lacks vision.

Thats because the Kinect greatly improved on the existing motion sensing products and differentiated from the competitors. The two major players out there were Nintendo and Sony, both products they offered required you to hold onto a piece of hardware. Microsoft took a chance and removed the hand held component. If it indeed becomes highly successful, expect Nintendo and Sony to follow by removing the handheld part.

Microsoft knows it cant improve on the tablet anymore then its competitors can. Hell, I wouldn't doubt it if the only company making money off the tablet market a year from now is Apple.

Streaming is a different area because they could technically buy 1 dvd, rip it, and stream it 100 times but this wouldn't be legal so they have to get permission and pay certain fees, etc, etc to get movies to be streamed. This is why the majority of the stuff they have on the streaming service is garbage.

Also, from my conversations with people who own businesses, Groupon's sales approach is very aggressive. They put dollar signs in the business owner's eyes. But eventually, they'll get found out.

And here is the fundamental flaw just like the dot com bubble burst, its a quick get in and get money strategy (the core problem with most major economys today). No long term plan to keep yourself profitable, once companies start to catch on that the deal is not that sweet (which is coming to light already) they will walk. Now this isn't so bad at first but the problem for Groupon is that most business owners talk to each other. Once the seed is planted that your deal is not so great, that seed grows and spreads and once your reputation is damaged its difficult to recover.

What will most likely happen is that over time Groupon will need to negotiate better deals with businesses, deals that net the business a larger profit margin, while netting Groupon a smaller piece of the pie. So now the profitability of Groupon falls, the overall evaluation falls, and finally you get the actual value of Groupon on a long term basis.

So he jumps ship, makes a highly conservative show and 18 months later he is speaking on the other side of the aisle, this is where the two clips on The Daily Show come into play. Now his new act is being the loud-mouth that spouts the most ridiculous statements so he can appeal to a certain market and by being a loud-mouth other people mention him and everyone knows him. Then his ratings balloon to 2+ million viewers a night from his pathetic 200-300k viewers a night on CNN. Now add in his speeches, books, appearances, etc, etc, and he went from being a man about to be fired on CNN, to a rich rich man.
